Despite the recent political back-and-forth between singer Serj Tankian and drummer John Dolmayan, the group agreed on one thing: to raise awareness for what’s going on in Armenia and Artsakh in their ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan and Turkey. The songs, “Protect the Land” and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz,” did more than just make people aware: they raised over $600,000 that will be donated to the Armenia fund. Here’s what the band said about their mission in a statement: We are overwhelmed with gratitude for your incredible support of our campaign for the people of Artsakh, and for helping us raise over $600k in donations to provide for tho...

Gomez served us sass as Alex Russo in her breakout role on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, sweetness as Mary Santiago in Another Cinderella Story, and sauciness as Faith in Spring Breakers. She starred alongside Demi Lovato in Disney Channel’s Princess Protection Program by playing Carter Mason, who disguised Lovato’s regal character Princess Rosalinda María Montoya Fioré as Carter’s cousin Rosie Gonzalez from Iowa. And in Monte Carl...

They also recently teamed up with George Clinton and Cypress Hill to release the animated video for “Grid,” and now they’ve done the same thing for “Public Enemy Number Won.” Featuring the surviving members of both the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC, the video features archival performance footage along with posters from those early days. “The song is an homage to ‘Public Enemy No. 1′ and that moment in time,” Chuck D said in a statement. “The Beastie Boys and Run-DMC were playing it all the time and Rick Rubin kept coming at us to sign with Def Jam. So it’s my way of bringing it all back together again.” We recently spoke with Chuck D as part of our SPIN 35 cel...

Source: Johnny Louis / Getty At the top of 2020, NLE Choppa was in a different state of mind. Granted, none of us knew what to expect as the year wore on, but as we were all forced to slow down and be still, the Memphis rapper found himself embracing the quiet moments. “I’m a helper and I’m a healer.”—NLE Choppa From time to time, anyone can catch Choppa online, either tending to his garden, making a vegan breakfast or meditating in his backyard. In October, he tweeted: “I didn’t change. I just found myself.” Two months before in August, the rapper released his debut studio album Top Shotta, a nod to his Jamaican heritage on his mother’s side, but admits that by the end of recording it, he felt drained and listless. The fiery, devil-may care energy of Choppa’s music simply wasn’t mov...

Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Some of the best art to emerge from Black artists has been under periods of duress and pressure, and a new release from Salaam Remi adds to that tradition. The celebrated producer has released a new body of work, Black On Purpose, featuring some of the best talents across Hip-Hop, R&B, and beyond. Black On Purpose could very well be seen as an extension of the Black Power era of musical releases that reflected the times, harkening back to artists like Marvin Gaye, and James Brown who used their music to convey the feelings and frustrations of the people. Under Remi’s capable guidance, Black On Purpose achieves this goal several times over in one of 2020’s best releases to date. “We couldn’t gather in the way we were used to when we needed each other most, R...
Classic Scottish alt rockers Teenage Fanclub announced the release of Endless Arcade, their first LP since 2016’s Here, with the premiere single, “Home.” Endless Arcade will drop on March 5, 2021. “I think of an endless arcade as a city that you can wander through, with a sense of mystery, an imaginary one that goes on forever,” says Raymond McGinley, one-half of the band’s songwriters for this album, in a statement. “When it came to choosing an album title, it seemed to have something for this collection of songs.” The group’s other songwriter, Norman Blake, added, “We’re all getting older, and you can’t help but think about mortality, especially when you’re being creative and reflecting on your life.” A press statement further clarifies that the album “walks a beautifully poise...
