Tom Petty’s ‘Wildflowers’ Returns to Top Rock Albums Chart at No. 1
The late legend joins John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews as the only acts with six or more leaders. Tom Petty is back at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart. Wildflowers, his second solo album, first released in 1994, was reissued Oct. 16 and re-enters at No. 1 with 44,000 equivalent album units (38,000 via album sales) earned in the week ending Oct. 22, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Initially intended as a double album, Wallflowers was released with a 15-song tracklist and debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 dated Nov. 19, 1994. With Whitney joining the singer’s 1985 self-titled debut and the 1992 soundtrack to The Bodyguard in the Diamond column, the singer becomes the first Black artist (male, female, solo or group) to earn that three-peat designation. Whitney has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, while her debut has gone 13x Platinum and The Bodyguard soundtrack has been certified 18x Platinum. The “Starman” will take flight again in the Ziggy Stardust origin picture Stardust, which stars Johnny Flynn as David Bowie and podcaster/actor Marc Maron as his publicist. Billy Joe Shaver, Outlaw Country Singer, Dies at 81
Billy Joe Shaver, who had solo hits and was known for writing songs like “Honky Tonk Heroes,” has died at the age of 81, SPIN has confirmed. According to SiriusXM, Shaver died of a massive stroke. Born in Corsicana, Texas, on Aug. 16, 1939, Shaver’s catalog featured a number of hits, including “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Wacko in Waco” and “Live Forever” (which Robert Duvall performed in 2009’s Crazy Heart) His songwriting has been long admired by other artists. He wrote 10 of the 11 songs on Waylon Jennings’ 1973 album Honky Tonk Heroes and his tunes have been recorded by the likes of Willie Nelson, Bobby Bare and Johnny Cash. This car was monumentally successful at the hands of drivers like Juan Manual Fangio and Nino Farina.
