Michael Stipe, Billie Eilish, Foo Fighters and More Cosign New Planned Parenthood Voting Campaign

Following the speedy confirmation of Justice Amy Comey Barrett and fear of losing health care rights, Michael Stipe, Billie Eilish, Foo Fighters and other musicians have signed onto a new Planned Parenthood campaign to urge people to vote. Entitled “We Need Every Voice,” the full-page ad will appear in six newspapers at six key states: Arizona Republic, Detroit Free Press, Tampa Bay Times, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Austin American Statesman, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Everything is on the line with this election,” Alexis McGill Johnson, President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a statement. “Voters across the country understand that we need leaders who will fight to protect our rights and access to health care in every branch of government – that’s why tens of millions of Ame...

Watch the Flaming Lips Stage ‘Bubble Show’ in ‘Assassins for Youth’ Video

The Flaming Lips document their socially distanced “bubble” show in Oklahoma City with their new “Assassins of Youth” video. Despite the strangeness of seeing attendees in their own individual bubbles, everyone appears to be having a good time. It’s part rave, part Lips extravaganza, and everyone gets in on the action — including singer Wayne Coyne, who walks atop the crowd in his own bubble (a staple of the Lips’ concerts for quite a while now). Coyne, who also directed the video, detailed the filming process in a statement. “Of course, our MAIN priority (when doing the performance for the music video) was making sure everyone was safe and all the health cautions were being enforced,” he said. “But there was a welcome side effect: ‘I forgot about how exciting and fun and ridiculous i...

These Sexy Old Speedboats Pack Wicked Alfa Romeo Racing Engines

Alfa Romeo was a monster of post-war racing on land, winning a number of what we’d now consider Formula 1 races with the Alfetta 158/159 powered by a very small-displacement, supercharged straight-eight engine. This car was monumentally successful at the hands of drivers like Juan Manual Fangio and Nino Farina. But, less well known to us car enthusiasts, this engine (and other motorsports engines from the company) also had very successful careers on the water. The Arno II, seen above, was powered by an Alfa 158 engine (and is parked next to its Grand Prix car relative). All told, the boats in this exhibit racked up 11 world records, six world championships, and a number of European and Italian championships. Alfa Romeo developed marine engines and supported race efforts for decades, ...

Shawn Mendes Talks ‘Wonder’, Camila Cabello and Performs Medley on ‘Fallon’: Watch

Mendes is on a roll, with his first three studio albums all hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, an achievement he managed by the age of 20. Now he’s a seasoned industry professional at just 22, and he’ll hope to continue that chart streak with his fourth studio album, Wonder, due out Dec. 4. On Wednesday, the singer dished up two new works from it, “Intro,” which he performed at the piano, and the title track, “Wonder,” an epic number with touches of gospel which he performed with a full band. “I wonder what it’s like to be loved by you,” he sings, bouncing around the stage with boundless energy. The kid hasn’t lost a step during the lockdown. The pop artist also sat for a chat with host Jimmy Fallon on life, love and his new album. He’s been quarantining with his girlfri...

Taylor Swift Reflects on ‘RED’: ‘My True Breakup Album’

“I look back on this as my true breakup album, every other album has flickers of different things,” she says in a snippet. “But this was an album that I wrote specifically about pure, absolute, to the core, heartbreak.” It might have been a painful time for Taylor, but boy Swifties love the album. Sony Music Shrugs Off Pandemic, Reports Q2 Gains

Within that, the company received a one-time gain of 6.5 billion yen ($62.2 million) by selling shares of Big Hit Entertainment subsidiary Pledis and another 5.4 billion yen ($50.85 million) in what it terms a music company business transfer of an undisclosed business, which it apparently no longer owns a stake in. But even without those gains, the company would have posted a 40.95 billion yen ($384.7 million) in operating income, or a 9.3% increase. The Sony segment containing its music operations breaks out to:— Recorded music operations of Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Music Japan comprising 123.3 billion yen ($1.16 billion). That’s a 9.9% increase from the 2019 second quarter when recorded music tallied 112.2 billion yen ($1.045 million).— Music publishing operations of Sony/ATV Mu...

A Beautiful Mistake: Lancia Should Have Built the 2003 Fulvia Concept

At the time of this writing, Lancia—one of the greatest automakers of all time, with a history of racing success and great driver’s cars—currently produces just one vehicle. The Lancia Ypsilon is a homely little hatchback that’s been on sale since 2011 and is powered by a range of eensy little engines, including a 0.9-liter inline-two. This situation comes after several years of parent company FCA foisting rebadged Chrysler products on Continental buyers, including the Lancia Thema (neé Chrysler 300). Such cynical badge jobs made a mockery of the brand’s heritage, but it didn’t have to be this way. At the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show, the company showed off the Fulvia Concept, an homage to one of the company’s finest-ever enthusiast cars and a triumph of the era&#...

Live Nation to Face Lawsuit Over Teen’s Fatal 2015 Drug Overdose at HARD Summer

Live Nation Entertainment is facing a renewed lawsuit filed by the family of Katie Dix, a young woman who died following a fatal drug overdose at the 2015 edition of HARD Summer. In a new ruling, Superior Court of Los Angeles County Judge Dan Thomas Oki said a company like Live Nation that plans and operates large music festivals “owes a duty of reasonable care to festival attendees.”  According to a report by Pitchfork, who reviewed the case’s legal documents, Oki ruled that Live Nation must now face the suit, which was initially filed back in 2016. The family of Dix, who was 19 years of age at the time of her death, is suing on the grounds that Live Nation demonstrated negligence and breached their duties to protect her from the distribution and inge...

Rep. Cedric Richmond Says Biden Campaign Never Told Ice Cube To Hold On Until After Election

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Looks like Ice Cube’s claims of the Biden campaign telling him to chill out was not the case at all. Ice Cube has been catching serious heat since he confirmed that the Trump campaign reached out to him, and he did indeed politick with them and helped them craft their “platinum plan” geared towards Black Americans. Ice Cube was immediately praised by the right for his willingness to work with Trump but was dragged up and down on social media before clarifying that he does not endorse the super-spreader in chief. One of Cube’s arguments as to why he entertained Team Trump was because the Biden campaign told him to wait till after the election, and that didn’t sit well with him. Facts: I put out the CWBA. Both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll addr...

As Hip-Hop continues to mourn the murder of Pop Smoke by bumping his posthumous LP, Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon, videos for his album cuts remind us that the Brooklyn rapper was bound for a meteoric rise before his life was cut short.
