The Motor Trend 500: John Lamm’s Remembrance of a Special Race

In conjunction with NASCAR Productions, the MotorTrend Group recently pulled together a documentary on the Motor Trend 500 called The MotorTrend 500: NASCAR Heads West, about the legendary stock car race held at the Riverside International Raceway, in Riverside, California. The Motor Trend 500 ran from 1963 to 1971, and was foundational to the westward and eventual international expansion of the budding series known as the National Association for Stock Car Racing. In the early 60s, NASCAR was still in its infancy, a mostly southern United States racing series, nowhere near the racing juggernaut it is today. NASCAR races were not yet broadcast on TV, or even nationally on radio. It was only regional newspapers and some national, special-interest automotive magazines that covered such ...

Ocean Spray Gifts Juice-Toting TikTok Star a Nissan Frontier, and We Cran’t Raspbelieve It

Even if you don’t use TikTok, the short-form video app popular with people younger than you, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the video Nathan Apodaca aka “Doggface” skateboarding to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” while sipping on some Cran-Raspberry juice. Since Apodaca posted the video, it’s racked up more than 26 million views on TikTok alone, with copies spreading to other platforms. It also had the effect of increasing week-over-week sales of “Dreams,” which was originally released in 1977, by 60 percent. And then Cran-Raspberry juice producer Ocean Spray got involved. The internet coalesced around Apodaca’s video because it simply could not have been more pure of heart, and clearly Ocean Spray clearly felt the sa...

Puerto Rico’s Governor Endorses Donald Trump For President Because, Well, Y’all Know

Source: Miami Herald / Getty Years after Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico and Donald Trump insulted it’s residents by jump shooting them rolls of paper towels and blaming them for throwing the US budget “out of wack,” the island’s governor, Wanda Vázquez has decided to let Donald Trump know where she stands… by endorsing him for President of The United States. That’s right. Much to the chagrin of Puerto Ricans and Latinos everywhere, Politico is reporting that Governor Wanda Vázquez asked Boricuas everywhere (especially in the battleground that Florida has become) to go out and vote for the man who illegally withheld hurricane aid to Puerto Rico for months. “I ask all the Puerto Ricans who are listening to me to go vote… and evaluate who has represented themse...

Sunken Sellout Daniel Cameron Responds To Megan Thee Stallion Calling Him Out On ‘SNL’

Source: Jon Cherry / Getty Kentucky’s tap-dancing Attorney General Daniel Cameron felt a way about Megan Thee Stallion calling him out and has finally responded. In case you missed it, Megan The Stallion lived up to her song “Savage” and didn’t hold no punches calling out Cameron during her SNL performance. A recording of activist Tamika D. Mallory played dragging Mitch McMconnell’s protege “Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout Negroes that sold our people into slavery by savages.” Of course, Cameron was BIG MAD and went to Fox News to vent about being labeled a “sellout Negro.” Cameron did agree with Megan when it comes to protecting Black women, but that’s where it stopped claiming he found the rapper’s performance offensive. “The fact that someone would get on national televi...

Australia’s Live Industry Welcomes Fine for Viagogo

In one example, the ACCC said the total price for two Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam) tickets was found to increase from A$450.00 ($357) to A$579.95 ($460), a rise of 29%, when the A$125 ($100) booking and A$4.95 ($4) handling fees were added. Justice Burley described one category of representations as having been made on “an industrial scale”. The company’s business practices were “unacceptable,” says ACCC Chair Rod Sims. “Viagogo misled thousands of consumers into buying tickets at inflated prices when they created a false sense of urgency by suggesting tickets were scarce and when they advertised tickets at a lower price by not including unavoidable fees.” The federal court’s stiff penalty is meant as a warning to other companies that breached consumer protections. The court also or...

Foo Fighters Launch People of Rock and Roll Digital Zine

This year was shaping up to be a big one for Foo Fighters. As we all know, the band celebrated the 25th anniversary of their debut album on July 4 and they were supposed to tour in honor of the anniversary with a big D.C. festival to commemorate the occasion. And let’s not forget about a new album that may or may not be coming soonish. Sucks. But, the band keeps pushing. They’ve released some cool stuff in conjunction with the anniversary and the latest comes in the form of a digital zine. Titled People of Rock and Roll, fans share their personal stories about Dave Grohl and company. It’s a pretty lengthy (and honestly great) read if you have the patience — there are 135 pages of submissions with a bunch of folks per page. Either way, in a year where Foo Fighters’ plans were disrupted...

Source: Djeneba Aduayom / for Women’s Health Kelly Rowland is gracing the latest cover for Women’s Health Magazine debuting her biggest project yet: a second pregnancy. In her cover story for the magazine, Rowland reveals all that’s been going on in her very private life over the last couple of months.  Just like the rest of us, the “Coffee” singer’s pre-pandemic schedule was packed with the hustle-and-bustle of work, travel, and family duties. Her son Titan, 6, had to be dropped off at school before heading to the gym for a rigorous 90-minute workout session with her trainers. Admittedly, she’d secretly dream about indulging in snacks in between her weighted crunches and cardio. After sitting in traffic and muddling through a series of meetings, she’d be due to pick-up Titan from sch...
