One of the biggest artists in hip-hop could be looking to test the waters of the electronic music scene. Travis Scott took to social media today, October 5th, to address the DJs of the Twittersphere. The prolific “Antidote” rapper, who has racked up seven Grammy Award nominations before the age of 30, could very well be trying to swerve into the EDM lane after urging DJs to look out for something from him in their inboxes. “DJs Just keep Checking ur mailbox,” he wrote. “Got something on the way in the mail for ya.” While the usage of the term “DJs” is nebulous here, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that the word is perpetually conflated with the EDM world. And, considering Scott’s prevalence in the electronic mus...

Source: @richforever / Instagram While he makes it look good Rick Ross might not be rolling as right as we all thought. The Miami native was recently caught draped in bandooloo designer. As spotted on Hot New Hip-Hop the rapper who once said he is going to stunt even if he has to break a bone might need to have a conversation with his stylist. Last week he posted a photo to his Instagram showing him boarding a private plane. While luxury travel isn’t anything new to the Maybach Music Group boss, the outfit he had on left many of his fans and fashion experts scratching their heads. The vibes were a head to toe Luis Vuitton monogram fit but the authenticity has been called into question. Several streetwear social media accounts were quick to point out that both the apparel and the ...
Source: Peathegee Inc / Getty Adult entertainment has always thrived in the online realm, but the fast money and swift returns of traditional strip clubs are unmatched in this regard. With the COVID-19 pandemic all but upending brick and mortar business traffic, a quarter of dancers took matters into their own hands and launched a lucrative online venture. The Los Angeles Times profiled dancers Gabrielle, Reagan, Coco Ono and Kitty, the Stripperina, all of whom worked at Jumbo’s Clown Room, a popular strip joint in Los Angeles’ East Hollywood district. As noted in the piece, the women realized that managers and owners at their establishment were blindsided like the rest of the nation and dug deep to find an innovative way to keep the lights on. What has been born in Jumbo’s stead is Cyber ...
By this point, we all know about Mariah Carey’s secret 1995 alt-rock album, which she finally revealed in her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey. But now the engineer of Chick’s Someone’s Ugly Daughter —the name and album title Mimi recorded as — has something to say. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Carey’s longtime engineer Dana Jon Chappelle opened up about the Daydream-era side project and what exactly went into it. “It was all very spontaneous and impromptu,” Chappelle said. “She didn’t want a lot of effort going into it… A lot of times, she’d write a song out and lyrically she’d be done in 10, 15 minutes. She’d sit there on a pad and knock out lyrics or ideas and then finish them another day.” Chappelle said that the record was an afterthought when recording th...

Sony wishes to sue Lyon and Collins for selling unauthorized, “pirate” versions of their own albums on websites. Last week, UMG made a similar move, countersuing musicians including Joe Ely and Syd Straw for distributing their own music in an unauthorized way. But that’s not all! Most spectacularly, Sony aims to hold the musicians liable for secondary copyright infringement because the musicians’ attorney, Evan Cohen, is apparently using album artwork to recruit other clients. As a letter to the judge puts it, “[B]oth Lyon and Collins appear to have authorized their attorney, Evan Cohen, to distribute and display SME’s copyrighted album artwork on Mr. Cohen’s website, so that Mr. Cohen can advertise his business centered on preparing termination notices.” Here’...
Last year, Summer Walker won R&B fans over with her debut album Over It. Headlined by silky singles such as “Playing Games,” “Come Thru” and her Hot 100 top 40 single “Girls Need Love (Remix)” featuring Drake, Walker’s rookie performance went platinum and was lauded by listeners and media. One year later, Walker surprises fans with never-before-seen studio footage of her creating her 2019 heater to commemorate the project’s first anniversary (Oct. 5). The two-minute-long video finds Walker busy in the studio crafting her album alongside her go-to producer/beau London on Da Track and LVRN co-founder Justice Baiden. One highlight includes Walker deftly whipping up her sticky earworm “Body,” which samples 702’s &...
Celebrated DC electronic music venue U Street Music Hall is officially closing its doors after 10 years due to the impact of COVID-19. After they were forced to shutter, they sent a letter to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser in which they pleaded for crucial financial aid that would help their venues survive. However, with no end to the pandemic in sight, U Street Music Hall has now made the unfortunate decision to shut down. “It is with tremendous sadness that we share with you today that U Street Music Hall is closing effective immediately,” the venue announced on its website.
