Source: WENN.com / WENN Juelz Santana was freed earlier this year after serving a little less than 2 year for firearm charges. The Dipset rapper recently explained the circumstances that momentarily cost him his freedom—fleeing an airport after TSA discovered a gun in his luggage. According to the “Clockwork” rapper, he packed the toast to a video shoot in Queens the prior day just in case ish got crazy, but forgot that he still had the gun in his luggage the next day when he was due to fly out of Newark. He explained the situation in detail recently to Fat Joe on the Bronx rapper’s The Fat Joe Show. Apparently, at the aforementioned video shoot he had copped a new Supreme duffel bag that he threw the gun in when he saw everything was peace. But then at Newark Airport, it wasn’t even when ...
Source: Jon Cherry / Getty If it walks and quacks like a duck; chances are that it is a duck. The same goes for bootlicking sellout. After the miscarriage of justice that was Breonna Taylor’s indictment announcement or rather lack thereof, the feeling towards Kentucky’s government might be at an all time low with people of color. As spotted on Blavity activist Tamika Mallory went ten toes down on Daniel Cameron, the resident Attorney General for the city. On Friday, September 25 she spoke at a press conference where she took objection to his decision to place higher value on concrete walls than Breonna’s life. “I want you to understand how wicked he is and how wicked this system is,” she said. Mallory also pointed to the fact that he had pledged his allegiance to the local police upon...
Source: NICHOLAS KAMM / Getty President Donald Trump, fresh from selling a so-called “Platinum Plan” for Black America to drum up votes, might need to address a claim made by a United Kingdom news outlet. According to the report, Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign database listed millions of Black voters as “deterrence” in the file. The UK’s Channel 4 has much more: In 16 key battleground states, millions of Americans were separated by an algorithm into one of eight categories, also described as ‘audiences’, so they could then be targeted with tailored ads on Facebook and other platforms. One of the categories was named ‘Deterrence’, which was later described publicly by Trump’s chief data scientist as containing people that the campaign “hope don’t show up to vote”. Analysis by Channel 4 ...
Source: Thaddaeus McAdams / Getty Lil Yachty has been arrested and released. According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, the Atlanta rapper was arrested last week and charged with driving more than 150 mph down an Atlanta interstate. Lil Yachty, whose legal name is Miles McCollum, was pulled over Sept. 21 in downtown Atlanta after being observed by officers going high speeds in his white Ferrari. McCollum was charged with reckless driving and speeding before being sent to the Atlanta City jail, according to the Georgia State Police. Channel 2 Action News noted that the same location of the rapper’s recent arrest was also the same location that the rapper previously crashed a red Ferrari back in June. At that time, witnesses said his speed and the wet roads led to the crash that totaled his vehicl...
Someone who just launched a new record label with 118 songs, headlined a major virtual music festival, and trended on Twitter doesn’t usually have the time or energy to focus on other projects. Excision, however, isn’t just anyone. In a new interview with Forbes about the launch of his new Subsidia Records banner, Excision waxed poetic about a number of intimate topics. In addition to delving into highlights from his career, advice he’d give to his future self, and the inspiration behind Subsidia, he also stressed the importance of voting ahead of the impending federal election. “I really want everyone who reads this to register to vote. This goes for every country in the world,” Excision said. “There is so much discussion over changes that we want to ma...
Deerhoof’s surprise new (free!) album Love-Lore on Joyful Noise Recordings that dropped today (Sept. 28) is surprising in a second way as well. It’s a 35-minute, 43-song, live-in-the-studio covers medley of songs by mostly ’80s hitmakers, including Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, The Police, Sun Ra and the B-52’s. Tracks from composers Ennio Morricone, John Cage and Laurie Anderson are also part of Love-Lore. Love-Lore is available as a free download at Bandcamp, the band’s website, and Joyful Noise Recordings, and a limited edition commemorative poster is available as well. The band held a listening party starting 3 p.m. Eastern announcing Love-Lore, and answered questions afterward. There’s also a written component to the offering:. Muindi Fanuel Muindi wrote an essay to accompany...
Whether you’re planning to cast a vote for Igor or not on Nov. 3, Tyler, the Creator is encouraging you to “pull up” to the polls regardless. The music superstar took to Instagram and Twitter on Monday and dropped a two-minute video in an attempt to inspire fans to vote in the upcoming presidential election. The self-shot clip from the self-proclaimed “last person you should ever take advice from” saw Tyler explain that change is more than a “black square” on Instagram, and to get there, fans need to “pull up.” “Please, if you are young and your fucking back don’t hurt, go to the polls and cast a fucking vote,” Tyler said. He also spoke about how this would be his first time voting, and how his passion for expanding the arts in school curriculum brought him to his ballot in this election. ...
Diplo, a doer of many things in both waking life and virtual reality, has now done yet another thing with the launch of his avatar within FIFA 21’s Volta Football series. Within the game as a playable character, Diplo is among a cast of “Groundbreaker” players including soccer phenom Kylian Mbappé, Olympic gold medalist in boxing Anthony Joshua, and actor and former professional soccer player Eric Cantona. This isn’t Diplo’s first time on the field with FIFA, as he produced the 2018 World Cup’s official (and very Major Lazer-sounding) anthem “Live It Up” by reggaeton star Nicky Jam with a feature from Will Smith. For the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Dip was one of the models Nike used to show off its uniform for Team U.S.A., with the producer al...

Blake Shelton didn’t just trust Gwen Stefani to cut his hair during quarantine. He also trusted her enough to dye it once he realized he was going gray. During his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday (Sept. 28), the country singer explained how he noticed something else about his hair when his girlfriend-turned-hair stylist gave him a quarantine mullet on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in April. “We were on Jimmy’s show and I think I saw a picture back, and I turned my head to the side at some point, and it was just…. There was no more salt and pepper. It’s just salt,” he laughed. “And so I said, ‘Oh my God, when did this happen to me?'” Despite limited physical encounters with other ...
If you thought Tiny Desk Concerts would be impossible without all band members in the same room, you don’t know Bright Eyes very well. The indie rockers presented their own spin on NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert Monday, as they performed four tracks, “Mariana Trench,” “Pan and Broom,” “Persona Non Grata” and “Shell Games.” The first three, of course, come from the group’s new record Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, while the last derives from the group’s 2011 The People’s Key album. The 18-minute clip features Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis performing from ARC Studios in Omaha, and Nate Walcott joined by Becky Stark and their daughter in Los Angeles’ Lucy’s Meat Market. Despite the distance, the guys’ connection couldn’t be stronger as they share...
