California Plans to Ban New Gas, Diesel Cars by 2035

After a few years of maneuvering by climate-change activists and green-minded legislators, Governor Gavin Newsom of California issued an executive order [click the link to view the order as a PDF] on Wednesday directing the state to require that all new vehicles on sale there in 2035 have zero emissions. The California Air Resources Board, which sets the state’s vehicle emissions standards, will actually promulgate the eventual rule that Newsom calls for. This executive order targets private passenger cars and trucks, as well as formulates a requirement that medium- and heavy-duty vehicles reach the same zero-percent target by the later date of 2045. There’s language that allows some flexibility for the proposals due to technological feasibility and cost-effectiveness. It&...

Well, Marshmello Has Nabbed a CMT Award Nomination

Genre crossover songs are nothing new. They have generally been enjoyed by music lovers since 70s prog rock, some of the nostalgic nu-metal of the early 2000s (yes, it was good), or that time when Nelly and Tim McGraw teamed up for the inimitable “Over And Over.” Not only is EDM no exception to this genre-bending rule, it’s actually the genre of music that tends to breach into crossover territory the most. Over the years, we’ve seen metal-infused dubstep, big room folk-house, orchestral bass, and most recently, EDM poster snack Marshmello and pop country dreamboat Kane Brown‘s collaboration, “One Thing Right.”  The track was a big hit that certainly teetered along the lines of country. In fact, it would appear that the inclusion...

Chris Rock Hosting SNL Season Premiere With Megan Thee Stallion as Musical Guest

Like all other live shows, Saturday Night Live had to make due earlier this year with socially-distanced episodes. That changes when the new season begins. Chris Rock will host the first in-studio episode since the pandemic first hit. Megan Thee Stallion will be the musical guest to begin the 46th season on October 3. This is the third time Rock will return to SNL as a host (he was a cast member from 1990-1993) and Megan Thee Stallion’s first proper appearance on the sketch comedy show — she popped up with Chance the Rapper last year on “Handsome.” As if that wasn’t enough, Jim Carrey will also feature as Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden in the run-up to the election — kicking off what’s sure to be a politically charged month. Rock will also star in the up...

Native Kentuckians S.G. Goodman and Jim James are hoping to encourage voter registration with their upcoming all-star online festival, “Which Side Are You On: Voices for Kentucky and Beyond.” The Old Time Feeling singer-songwriter and My Morning Jacket frontman have teamed with Hood to the Holler and Rural Organizing for the three-hour Oct. 1 blowout, during which they will perform alongside Jason Isbell, Bright Eyes, Phoebe Bridgers, Nappy Roots, Chris Thile, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Durand Jones, Leyla McCalla, James Lindsey and many more. The show will be hosted by Kentucky House Rep. Charles Booker, who will discuss voter registration, voter eligibility and key voting deadlines in between acts. And though the music is the draw, Goodman tells Billboard that the go...

Pixies Share New ‘Hear Me Out’ Video

It’s been a minute since we last heard from the Pixies, but they’re back. The group shared a new video for the timely tune “Hear Me Out,” co-produced and starring band bassist/vocalist Paz Lenchantin. “‘Hear Me Out’ is about things not turning out the way we hoped, but knowing that it’s going to be ok regardless,” Lenchantin said in a statement. “Black started the melody phrases on an old organ. I loved it right away, so he asked me to take a pass at the lyrics. The song has an evocative melody that inspired the lyrics to come out straight away.” Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago added, “Paz sounds like she’s talking to a guy with deaf ears. I did a western-style riff at the end of verses, which was like giving her a gun so the dude would pay attention.” Filmed in Taos, New Mexico in the midd...

Jaguar Wright Apologizes To Tiffany Haddish After Accusing Common Of Sexual Assault

Source: WENN.com / WENN Well, this is an odd twist. Jaguar Wright posted an Instagram video apologizing to Tiffany Haddish a month after accusing her boyfriend, Common, of sexual assault back when the musicians allegedly dated two decades ago.  In the one-minute video clip, Wright professed her respect for the comedian and addressed the possible friction the accusation may have caused in Haddish’s relationship with the rapper while doubling down on her original story that sparked the controversy over the summer.     “There’s one person that I have not addressed directly,” Wright states in the video. “And the truth is because I have a lot of respect for her. I think that she is a wonderful comedian. I think she’s a great philanthropist. I just got off of her page an...

Freddie Gibbs Teases New Song With Big Sean & Hit-Boy

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Freddie Gibbs is one of the game’s most talented MC’s. The Bandana rapper recently linked up with Big Sean and Hit-Boy in the studio, and he’s teased the results of the collaboration. Hit-Boy has been in his bag lately, executive-producing Nas’ recent King’s Disease project and he also has an album in works with Griselda wunderkind Benny The Butcher. For the latter, Freddie Gibbs contributed, and it clearly wasn’t a one-time deal. Gangsta Gibbs, who recently inked a deal with Warner Bros., took to Instagram to share footage of him and Sean Don in the studio going in over some Hit-Boy production—who also contributed to the Detroit rapper’s latest album. The two MC’s go back and forth spitting witty bars over a laid back but bouncy groove. “Million Dollars Million ...

2021 Mercedes-AMG GT First Look: More Power for the Coupe and Roadster

Coming off a refresh for 2020, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe and Roadster are about to receive even more updates for 2021. Most notably, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine delivers an additional 54 hp for the new model year. A new Stealth Edition model also joins the line. Now with 523 hp, the two-door sports car shaves 0.2 second from its trot to 60 mph, according to Mercedes. That means the GT now reaches the mile-a-minute mark in as little as 3.7 seconds. (For what it’s worth, we pushed a 503-hp 2016 GT S coupe to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. As such, we expect the 2021 car to better Mercedes-AMG’s estimates.) To complement its substantial increase in power, the GT adds several performance items to its standard features list. These include adaptive dampers (known by Mercedes as ...

2021 Volkswagen ID4 Interior Review: High-Tech, not High-End

Volkswagen just officially pulled the silk off of the 2021 ID4, the latest member of an all-electric lineup of cars and SUVs. VW says the new SUV is its first long-range EV that will be sold in the States—the e-Golf was merely a baby step toward electrification.  Also unlike the e-Golf, the ID4 will be the first chance U.S. customers will have to experience an entirely new exterior and interior design language from the German automaker. (Europe got a head start with the ID3 hatchback, which won’t be coming here.) If you want all the specs on the ID4, including range and charging info, you can check out our 2021 Volkswagen ID4 First Look here. But earlier this week, MotorTrend got an in-person preview of the ID4 in the metal, and it both impresses and lea...

Juliette Greco, Raspy-Voiced French Singer Who Inspired The Beatles, Dead at 93

Juliette Greco, a French singer, actress, cultural icon and muse to existentialist philosophers of the country’s post-War period, has died, French media said Wednesday. She was 93. They said Greco died in her Ramatuelle house in the south of France, near Saint Tropez. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, tweeted that “a very grand lady, an immense artist has gone.” With expressive eyes inherited from her Greek ancestors and an impossibly deep, raspy voice — acquired from years of cigarette-smoking — Greco immortalized some of France’s most recognizable songs in an enduring seven-decade career, including the classics “Soul le ciel de Paris” (Under the Parisian sky) and “Je hais les dimanches” (I hate Sundays). Greco was born in Montpellier on February 7, 1927, to an absent fath...

Machine Gun Kelly Talks New Album, True Love and His Beef With Eminem

Machine Gun Kelly sprayed it around during an on-air chat with Howard Stern, which covered off everything from love, buddies, enemies and switching his sound. The Cleveland native is promoting his fifth studio album Tickets to My Downfall, which sees him tread a different musical style. MGK’s previous four LPs could be pigeonholed as hip-hop. The new one is sonically pitched as pop-punk. Yes there are detractors. Kelly doesn’t care. “I just want to go against what everyone else thinks,” he said during his debut on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. “I make a pop-punk record … and everyone’s like, ‘You switched genres!’ To me, I just added on to the multiple things I’ve already done anyway, but, sure, what a narrow-minded way to look at things.” Downfall drops Friday (Sept. 25) a...
