One of the most anticipated releases of the second Record Store Day Drop is Brandi Carlile’s collaboration with the surviving members of Soundgarden. She first performed with the group at the Chris Cornell tribute I Am the Highway in January 2019, but this is a far different beast. Carlile recorded two of the band’s songs, “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching with My Good Eye Closed,” in November 2019 with the band in Seattle and now we finally have a small glimpse of what’s to come when it’s actually released this Saturday. The singer-songwriter shared a teaser on her Instagram (with the awesome art that channels Badmotorfinger), which you can hear/see below. Last week, Carlile shared a haunting version of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World,” which was perfectly suitable for 2020. Carlile a...
Tenacious D hit Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (Sept. 22) for a socially-distanced performance. Before performing a quick combo platter of the songs “Save The World” and “Post-Apocalypto Theme (Reprise)” off 2018’s Post-Apocalypto album, actor/singer Jack Black, sporting a shorn head, looked into the camera and said “Save the world, Jimmy. It’s up to you.” The duo did the appropriately titled tunes, which clocked in at less than two minutes, joined by a socially distant band. Watch the Tenacious D performance below. The big-name German performance brands all sell performance in various packages and steps, from BMW’s M Sport or Mercedes-Benz’s AMG packages to full-blown M and Mercedes-AMG models. Hyundai aspires to follow in these footsteps with N models like North America’s Veloster N and Europe’s i30 N at the top of the retail pyramid (factory racing N cars occupy the ultimate peak of the pyramid) and a widening line of N Line models occupying the rung beneath them. First to get the N Line treatment was the Elantra GT N Line, and next up are the Elantra and Sonata sedans. Not too much info has been shared on the full Sonata N Line package, but at a powertrain backgrounder in December 2019, we learned that the heart of this new beast is a turbocharged 2.5-liter “Smartstre...
No one these days designs a coupe without engineering the car to ensure it can also be built as a convertible. Well, almost no one—the Ferrari Portofino means there won’t be a convertible version of the gorgeous Roma coupe, although since 70 percent of the Roma’s platform is derived from the Portofino, you could argue Maranello simply did things the other way around. The Vantage Roadster shares much of its hardware with its coupe sibling—the rumbling, AMG-sourced 503-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8; the rear-mounted eight-speed ZF automatic transmission; the e-diff; the suspension; and the brakes. And it has the same tight, taut, focused feeling as the coupe when you point it at a winding road and punch the gas. The Vantage Roadster is no show pony. It hasn’t been designed to...
Elton John will be back in North America…in 2022. While he’ll be resuming the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour in the UK in fall 2021, he explained that he wanted to make sure that everything and everyone is safe. “While the scientists are making great progress,” he said in a video posted to social media, “we’re making big plans to make a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone.” John also added that his shows for New Zealand will be pushed to 2023. And if you’re worried that the tour will just never happen, the legendary pop singer reassured fans not to be concerned. “But don’t worry about me,” he said, “I’m using my downtime to keep myself fighting fit and healthier than ever. I’m raring to go.” And considering delaying his New Zealand dates due to...
Artists from across the musical spectrum featured heavily in the 2020 TIME100 list, revealed Tuesday night (Sept. 22) for an ABC special that threw the spotlight on cover star Megan Thee Stallion. In a special interview, the rising rapper discussed the controversy and impact of “WAP,” her hit collaboration with Cardi B. “When I saw all of the politicians in an uproar about mine and Cardi’s ‘WAP’, I was just really taken aback,” she said. “Like why is this your focus right now? If you have an issue with what I’m saying don’t listen to it.” Megan also talked with pride about the wave of female artists blazing a trail in the music industry. “I’m like a girl’s girl and I love to support other women,” she said earlier in her interview. This year’s list, which recognizes the 100 “Mos...

Kelly Clarkson is here for it. With less than a week to go before its release, Mariah Carey gave fans a sneak listen to the audiobook version of her upcoming memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey (Sept. 29), on Tuesday (Sept. 22) night. The Audible book excerpt finds Carey saying, “I never spoke of it, I stuffed it inside. I had to find a way to survive…” The brief audio book snippet then makes way for some vintage footage of the singer from her childhood and early career days as the weeper ballad “Looking In” from Carey’s fifth album, 1995’s Daydream, plays in the background. The preview landed hard with superfan Kelly Clarkson, who retweeted the post, adding, “The amount of times I listened to this song as a kid is incredible. Still holds up....
“I don’t have it,” she said on “The Talk.” Sharon Osbourne is quarantining at home after her three-year-old granddaughter tested positive for COVID-19. The legendary rock manager and wife of Ozzy revealed the news on Monday’s (Sept. 21) season 11 premiere episode of The Talk. “I don’t have it,” Osbourne said, telling her fellow panelists that she had intended to join them in the studio but that the illness suffered by her son Jack’s daughter forced her to stay home. “She’s okay, she’s okay, she’s doing good,” Osbourne added when her co-stars expressed sympathy, adding that neither Jack, his wife or their other children are infected; Sharon did not mention whether Ozzy had been tested or if he is quara...
The man who killed John Lennon in 1980 says he was seeking glory and deserved the death penalty for a “despicable” act. Mark David Chapman made the comments in response to questions last month from a parole board, which denied him parole for an 11th time. As in previous parole board hearings, the now 65-year-old inmate expressed remorse for gunning down the former Beatle outside the musician’s Manhattan apartment building. “I assassinated him .. because he was very, very, very famous and that’s the only reason and I was very, very, very, very much seeking self-glory. Very selfish,” Chapman said, according to a transcript released by the state Monday after an open records request. Looking back 40 years later, Chapman called his actions “creepy” and “despicable.” He said he thinks all the ti...
There are many things you should never attempt. Covering a Sia song for an audience of millions is one of them. The Aussie singer and songwriter has the range and talent to turn powerful, experienced singers into sobbing messes. Daneliya Tuleshova didn’t heed the warnings. And it really didn’t matter. The 14-year-old from Kazakhstan covered “Alive” for the finale of America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night, and no one was injured or harmed. You could say, she’s very much alive in this competition. Singing before an impressive digital forest backdrop, Tuleshova belted out Sia’s classic without the absurd high notes but still managed to make it her own. Fun fact, Tuleshova was nine when “Alive” was release. Feeling old? You’re not the only one. Tuleshova, a one-time contestant at the Juni...
