Now, after working in close collaboration with the Amsterdam City Council, ADE has curated new 2020 events under the ADE Specials banner. In an official statement, ADE confirmed that new events will be held throughout Amsterdam, which will comply with public safety guidelines put forth by the government. “The ADE team has worked hard to be able to deliver the best possible ADE experience while ensuring public health and government guidelines,” the statement says. “In doing so, we have collaborated closely with the city council and the city’s venues to host ...
Lyrics to a new song by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe are part of an art installation that opens at New York City gallery Participation Inc. on Sept. 9. The song, “My Name is Ray,” is about the life and fraught love of married designers Charles and wife Ray Eames. The lyrics are part of a sculptural installation by artist and curator Jonathan Berger, a longtime collaborator of Stipe’s. In an interview with NY1, Stipe said told the station that “the thing that Jonathan offers is a reservoir of thought, but there is also a lightness and beauty to it. It really has to be experienced firsthand to understand how wondrous it is.” It’s not clear where and when “My Name is Ray” will be available in its complete musical form. The entire exhibit is called “An Introduction to Nameless Love...

After we rode in the Lucid Air prototype electric vehicle last month, we learned the upcoming sedan almost assuredly has Tesla beat in the driving range game. Now, Lucid has released details on the Air’s drivetrain, and we have even more reason to be excited about the forthcoming EV ahead of the production model’s debut on September 9. See all 14 photos The Air’s in-house-developed permanent magnet electric motor drive units are also lighter and more compact than those of its closest competitor, according to Lucid. Silence might be golden. For Miley Cyrus, silence was a gift. The “Wrecking Ball” singer underwent surgery on her throat late last year, and emerged from the experience clean, sober and emboldened with a fresh outlook. Those silent post-operative days created a window of self-reflection. “I kind of learned a lot about the voice and how our experiences affect our voice,” Miley told Seth Rogan during a candid chat for the Joe Rogan Experience, which clocked-in at two hours. Following a Reinke’s edema diagnosis — that is, swelling of the vocal cords due to the presence of fluid — Miley underwent surgery in November 2019. “Over the last year I noticed a really big change to my voice, kind of a heaviness to it,” she explains. “And I experienced some heavy things. I...
Loud and happy screams erupt in unison from the seven-member pop stars BTS when they hear they have notched their first No. 1 hit on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. “DREAM,” yells band member RM. “It still doesn’t feel real,” adds SUGA, speaking in Korean through a translator. “We’re really happy.” “Dynamite,” the group’s first all-English song, debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. music charts this week, making BTS the first Korean pop act to top the chart. The upbeat song even supplanted “WAP,” the raunchy smash hit by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, to claim the No. 1 position. “Never expected it,” RM tells The Associated Press of beating “WAP” for the top spot. “Never! It’s like the song of the year.” But getting their first chart-topping track seemed inevitable for the K-pop boy band,...
Bigsound 2020 is flicking the switch to an all-digital program. Earlier, the Australian industry conference and showcase event was pushed back by almost two months with a condensed COVIDsafe format, spread over two days and nights from Oct. 21. “We feel like we’re looking after an event that’s owned by the industry,” Angela Samut, CEO of QMusic, told Billboard in mid-July. “It’s an export event,” noted Samut, whose organization produces the annual event in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, now entering its 19th year. “That’s our point of difference.” This being the year of the pandemic, expect the unexpected. With coronavirus hotspots blowing up on Australia’s east coast, domestic border closures and the city of Melbourne entering a second lockdown, Bigsound organizers on Thursday (Sept. ...
