Source: KAMIL KRZACZYNSKI / Getty The shooting of Wisconsin man Jacob Blake has stoked the embers of outrage and protests sparked by the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and others. At a news conference, Blake’s family, most especially one of his sisters, all delivered a stern message to America in the wake of this latest police shooting. Flanked by attorney Benjamin Crump, Jacob Blake Sr., Blake’s mother Julia Jackson, and Blake’s sister Letetra Wideman all took turns speaking to media on Tuesday (August 25). Blake’s father spoke eloquently and stated a prayer in Arabic, while Blake’s mother urged Kenosha citizens to maintain peace. Wideman took an entirely different path from the rest of the family, using her time at the podium to rebuke racial injustice in unflinching fashion. “I...
Rich Rebuilds is the sort of YouTube car dude that we all know and watch, buying suspiciously cheap and definitely not pristine vehicles and then documenting the inevitable rollercoaster ride of, well, rebuilding them. Hence his handle. He’s turned around a hurricane-inundated Model S, a wrecked Model 3, some sketchy Audis . . . you get the idea. There’s a strong Tesla fascination, and the guy co-founded an independent Tesla mechanic outfit, but there are some exceptions to the rule on his channel. Electric rat rod? Sure. How about a Tesla Cyberquad ATV tribute build? Sounds interesting. See all 42 photos And it is. You see, the Cyberquad only exists in the most minimalistic way. It exists—we saw it in the back of the Cybertruck when it rolled onto the stage in that famous debu...
The second-generation Chevy Camaro cemented the pony car as a very American expression of automotive muscle. You’re probably hearing a wailing hair metal riff in your head as you’re thinking about it, actually. But what if the Camaro went a different direction, with European styling that’s more Turin than Detroit? It actually happened, and it’s our understanding that Chevrolet commissioned the design. You’re looking at the 1976 Chevrolet Camaro Europo Hurst, designed by Pietro Frua—a glimpse into an alternate reality where this arch-nemesis of the Ford Mustang paired Italian styling with American brawn. See all 38 photos Is it the prettiest of Frua’s designs? Probably not. Frua penned a number of distinctive Maseratis, and some interesting Glas and Monte...

North Yorkshire police have excoriated a bizarre event in which they say a 13-year-old girl’s birthday party devolved into an “all-night techno rave” amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to a report by Yorkshire Live, the event started out as a run-of-the-mill birthday party at the start of the night, but after the children left, it eventually turned into a miniature rave thrown by the adult organizers, whose actions authorities blasted as “extremely irresponsible.” According to the report, the party, which could be heard five miles away, became “out of control” and continued into the following morning, eliciting a deluge of complaints to police. Councillor Keane Duncan, head of the Ryedale District Council, publicly slammed t...
With many, including the NPR Music staff, working from home, musicians have been recording themselves performing the iconic Tiny Desk sets themselves. Whether it’s been in their homes or in the Caribbean, fans have been treated to a variety of looks in the series. But Billie Eilish and Finneas brought us back to tradition — kind of. In the latest episode of Tiny Desk at-home, they are seen sitting in what looks like the NPR Music office in Washington, D.C. However, as editor Stephen Thompson explained, “the NPR Music staff can’t set foot in the building that houses Bob Boilen’s desk.” So what happened? After performing “My Future” and “Everything I Wanted,” the camera starts to pan out and show that it’s actually a set that was built to look like the original Tiny Desk set up. And what we ...
Last year, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and his new backing band, Saucerful Full of Secrets (you know, like the Pink Floyd album) hit the road in 2018 and 2019 to perform classic cuts from Floyd’s pre-Dark Side of the Moon era. The band will be releasing a set, Live at the Roundhouse, commemorating that tour — which even included an appearance of “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” by none other than Mason’s old bandmate Roger Waters at a tour stop in New York’s Beacon Theater. This show took place in London on May 3 and 4, 2019. Mason and company were supposed to tour in the U.K. and Ireland this year, before COVID-19 scuttled that plan. For now, though it’s a consolation prize compared to seeing them in person; check out a clip of the band performing Flo...
Vicky Cornell wants to set the record straight about reports regarding the vandalizing of the statue of her late husband, Chris Cornell. “I know the news of the vandalism was as heartbreaking to many of you as it was to our family. So I wanted to share this with you and clarify the misinformation that continues to be spread online about supposed rioters and ‘save the children’ protestors being responsible for this senseless based on a image [sic] being circulated showing writing on the sidewalk,” she said in a new post on Instagram. She continued, “A few days prior to the vandalism, someone wrote in sidewalk chalk ‘Save the Children’ in front of the statue. It rained the night before. Consequently, by Thursday AM when the vandalism occurred, much of the chalk writing was gone leaving only ...
Following the release of an EP recorded at their New Jersey rehearsal space last month, Yo La Tengo will be unveiling another EP, Sleepless Night, in October. The Byrds’ “Wasn’t Born to Follow” is the first song to arrive from the collection. The EP features one new song, “Bleeding,” plus covers of songs by The Delmore Brothers, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Lane, and The Flying Machine. The covers were initially released as one side of an LP included within a limited-edition catalog for the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art’s (LACMA) forthcoming retrospective for the Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Artist Nara, a longtime YLT fan, worked in collaboration with the group to choose the EP’s songs. This Matador version of the EP is a single-sided 12” with original cover art by Nara, a draw...
