On Friday, Bright Eyes released their first album in nine years, Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, and on Saturday they celebrated the new collection of songs by performing a couple of them on CBS This Morning. The band recently spoke to SPIN about how Down in the Weeds seamlessly fits into the rest of Bright Eyes’ discography. “We wanted to make a record that reflected our past records and fit into our catalog, but we didn’t want it to be a time machine kind of thing,” Conor Oberst said. “We wanted to use certain touchstones from the past albums on the new album, like the orches...

Walter Lure has died at the age of 71. The guitarist is best known for co-founding the Heartbreakers with New York Dolls’ Johnny Thunders. Though they only put out one album — 1977’s L.A.M.F. — the New York band is credited for pioneering punk. Los Angeles music venue Starwood wrote about Lure’s death in a Facebook post. “Walter Lure (April 22, 1949 – August 22, 2020) our dear friend has passed away,” it reads. “Walter was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer in July 2020, which spread rapidly and he died from complications related to the cancer at the age of 71, peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by family. He was much loved by all and respected for all he contributed to the world of music.” Lure left the Heartbreakers shortly after L.A.M.F.‘s release and beca...
“Punk rock” is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Batman, but Matt Reeves’ reimagining of the Dark Knight shows a grittier side to the beloved superhero. Warner Bros. hosted a panel at DC Fandome Saturday night to give fans a look into The Batman, including its first trailer, and they picked the perfect song to soundtrack the clip: Nirvana’s “Something in the Way.” The iconic Nevermind closer weaves its way throughout the trailer, intertwining with Michael Giacchino’s movie score and dialogue from the film while highlighting the dystopian feel of Reeves’ Gotham City. As Stereogum points out, Nirvana syncs are not all that common nor easy to come by. When “Something in the Way” was licensed for Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2005 war movi...
