Screaming Trees alum Mark Lanegan and Earth singer/guitarist Dylan Carlson dropped their take on “Summertime” as part of the ongoing Galaxie 500 series, a video project of 20 bands covering songs from the short-lived but influential trio that formed in the late ’80s. The initial plan was a concert of Galaxie 500 covers in conjunction with Record Store Day, but it was scuttled due to the pandemic. In a statement from Los Angeles, Mark Lanegan states: “Dylan Carlson and I giving the garage treatment to one of my favorite songs by one of the all-time great bands.” In the clip, Lanegan sings and plays tambourine, while Carlson is on guitar. The song is from Galaxie 500’s third and final album, 1990’s This is Our Music. Other artists participating in the Galaxie 500 series i...
Coheed and Cambria wrote a sequel to Rick Springfield’s ubiquitous 1981 #1 hit “Jessie’s Girl,” and the follow-up, “Jessie’s Girl 2,” furthers the lyrical narrative in unexpected and comic ways. The Grammy-Award winning Springfield plays a hapless bartender in the video, a version of the lovesick character from his original “Jessie’s Girl.” In a statement, Coheed and Cambria vocalist/guitarist Claudio Sanchez asks, “Has anyone ever written a sequel to another artist’s song? I don’t think so. As a fan of movies, it just seemed like a really interesting idea. Let’s just say it’s not a fairytale ending. It’s kind of like a National Lampoon’s movie meets So I Married an Axe Murderer.” The song’s concept, tackling the premise that “he got the girl,” then wonders, “where are they...
The Killers’ new album, Imploding the Mirage is finally out today (Aug. 21). And the band celebrated the release by debuting their new single, “Blowback” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night (Aug. 20). Unlike their previous quarantine performances, this one shows the full band, while still socially distanced, back together onstage. As Bobby Olivier pointed out in his SPIN review on the album, this song, along with the rest of the LP, is “an easy bridge to the next arena tour.” Even though it may take a while until we get back to that kind of live event, it was nice to see what the Killers are bringing to the table with “Blowback,” which Brandon Flowers and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr., initially shared on the CBS This Morning in April. But now, we get to see the whole group play it, an...
Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z are flexing their entrepreneurial spirit. At the stroke of midnight, the hip-hop stars dropped the music video for the inspirational “Entrepreneur”, in conjunction with a Time magazine cover package on “The New American Revolution.” “Thank you to Jay, and to every Black queen, king and entrepreneur who made this all happen! This is for you…and your Black vision of the future,” reads a message Pharrell posted on social media. The veteran artist and producer also praised Grammy-winning director Calmatic for “creating such a beautiful video.” The video is loaded with information and case studies, all of which reinforces the underlying message: the game is rigged against so many men and women of color, but the game is winnable. Speaking ahead of the rele...

The song’s release on Friday (Aug. 21) is timed to advance September’s National Recovery Month, which ...
We’ve all had to adjust to the new normal, and The Masked Singer is no exception. The hit Fox costumed singing competition is gearing up for its fourth season, and things will be a bit different this time around. For the first time the audience at home will get an opportunity to vote on their favorite masked celebrity performers as part of a virtual studio audience due to crowd restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Judge Robin Thicke revealed the changes on Twitter on Thursday (Aug. 20), writing, “To #TheMaskedSinger fans out there – we want you in our “At-Home Audience” for Season 4! We’re doing things a little different & you can help decide who stays and who goes home each week while you watch. Let’s go!!” Interested at home v...
Source: Tim Mosenfelder / Getty With all the Verzuz battles going on between OG producers, rappers and even singers, it seems like the Method Man is ready to get his own battle on. But not on IG Live or even in any of the other customary ways we’ve become accustomed to. Over the weekend battle rap legend Math Hoffa confirmed that he would indeed be going one-on-one with the Wu-Tang swordsman known as Method Man a.k.a. The Iron Lung a.k.a. Tical a.k.a. Johnny Blaze a.k.a. Hot Nickles a.k – y’all get the picture. While Hip-Hop fans across the board were confused as to why Method would suddenly decide to spar with Math for no apparent reason, we rejoiced at the news as they’re both beloved by the Hip-Hop culture. Then we got blindsided when the battle rap turned out to be a pre-recorded one-r...
Source: Danielle Degrasse-Alston / press handout For the past few weeks Gunna has been on social media teasing the release of the video of “200 For Lunch” with posts of himself at the video shoot and keeping his fans chirping about it’s inevitable drop. It’s finally come. In Gunna’s new visuals to “200 For Lunch,” the Georgia artist dines a plate stacked with paper before getting into “Dirty Diana” and showing off an impressive closet filled with clothes, ice, and a thick young woman. Migos meanwhile come out of hiding and for their YoungBoy Never Broke Again assisted clip to “Need It” recreate scenes from the cult classic Wayne brothers comedy Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood. That film really gets overlooked like a MF. Check out the rest of today’s...
Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion. The Houston rapper took to Instagram Live to make the admission after citing Lanez and his team’s shifty behavior. According to the “WAP” rapper, she believes Lanez and his PR reps have been sharing false narratives with the press. So an exasperated Meg felt she needed to set the record straight, completely this time. “Yes, Tory shot me,” said Megan matter of factly. “You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and sh*t. Stop lying. Why lie?” It was Megan who revealed she had even been shot, after initial reports said she cut her foot on glass. And after weeks (the incident occurred over a month ago in July) of social media detectives pointing to the jig and saying that Lanez...
If it’s got a motor, somebody’s raced it. Or run it through the dirt. (Or both, right?) But a riding lawnmower? Sure, you remember Honda’s 133-mph lawnmower, right? If your mower project is not backed by a British Touring Car Championship racing team and the U.K. arm of a major corporation, though, you might want to set your sights lower. How about getting from point A to point B on a mower, sans roads? Our friends at The Drive spotted an Instagram account of an outfit in Canada building lawnmowers to do just that. No, they’re not four-wheel drive dirt-manglers with a trio of lockers and a roof-top tent, but these off-road lawnmowers are cheap and fun. And that’s the sort of spirit and creativity we enjoy. Maybe not so much the tipping over, though, which OK O...
On the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention, the Chicks helped introduce nominee Joe Biden with a stirring performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Just a few weeks after the release of their long-awaited album Gaslighter, the Chicks did not sing an original tune, but instead showcased their sterling harmonies on the national anthem. Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire sounded pristine while remotely singing without any accompaniment. Along with a Convention-capping address from former Vice President Biden, Sen. Cory Booker, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, Andrew Yang and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms were scheduled to speak on Thursday night (Aug. 20). John Legend and Common are also scheduled to perform. Gaslighter debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 a...
