Cherie Currie and Brie Darling Cover Soundgarden’s ‘Black Hole Sun’

Former Runaways frontwoman Cherie Currie and musical partner Brie Darling have released a cover of the Chris Cornell-penned Soundgarden hit “Black Hole Sun” to benefit the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation. Currie explained in a statement why she and Darling wanted to be involved in the project: “[Chris’] artistry shows in everything he touched. He loved people more than he loved himself. Todd Nance, Former Widespread Panic Drummer and Co-Founder, Dies at 57

Todd Nance, the drummer and co-founder of Widespread Panic, has died at the age of 57. The band announced the news of his death in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug. 19). SPIN also confirmed Nance’s death with the group’s publicist. “It is with great sadness that we announce that Todd Nance, a founding member of Widespread Panic, passed away early this morning in Athens, GA from sudden and unexpectedly severe complications of a chronic illness,” the statement from the family said. Born in Chattanooga in 1962, Nance had previously played in a band with his longtime pal Michael Houser before joining forces with bassist Dave Schools and guitarist John Bell to form Widespread Panic in 1986. Phoenix Unveil New Song ‘Identical’ Off Soundtrack to Upcoming Film ‘On the Rocks’: Listen

Phoenix is back. The group dropped their first new music since 2017, a track titled “Identical” via Loyaute/Glassnote Records on Wednesday (Aug. 20). The song, which will be featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming Apple Original Films and A24 release On The Rocks, is also included in the new trailer. Phoenix have written the score and assembled the film’s soundtrack. This is their fifth cinematic collaboration with director Sofia Coppola since she first used their song “Too Young” in Lost In Translation.  The band have also shared the song’s accompanying Roman Coppola-directed video. Both the song and the video are dedicated to the band’s dear friend and collaborator Philippe Zdar, who passed away last year. When Regina Spektor was invited to bring some live music to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she brought one of her classic songs to the show — “Prisoners” off her 2002 album, Songs. “When I did my solo piano tour, I revisited some of the older songs. While dreaming up fun things for the Broadway shows I invited Caleb [Teicher], who is brilliant at using tap as percussion, to check out ‘Prisoners,’” Spektor said in a statement. Cabaret Voltaire will release their first album in over 20 years. Titled Shadow of Fear, the group shared the first single, “Vasto,” from the collection today (Aug. 19).
