Arashi’s “Kite” soars to No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Japan Hot 100, selling 636,590 copies during the chart week dated July 27 to Aug. 2. The quintet’s 58th single took the top spot by a wide margin after leading physical sales and look-ups, while also coming in at No. 2 for Twitter and No. 26 for radio airplay. A bit of chart trivia: the super-group’s previous single, “Brave,” debuted at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100 last September after a close contest against the writer of “Kite” — hitmaker Kenshi Yonezu, who topped that week’s chart with “Uma to Shika.” “Brave” actually sold more CDs than “Kite” with 708,595 copies that week, coming in at No. 1 for sales, No. 2 for look-ups, No. 3 for Twitter, and No. 56 for radio. The weekly total for “Kite” was 39,590, surpassing “Brave,”...
Taylor Swift is slamming President Donald Trump over his handling of funding for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ahead of the 2020 presidential election. The 30-year-old pop superstar took to Twitter on Saturday (Aug. 15) to criticize Trump over reports that he is deliberately withholding billions of dollars in funding for the USPS as part of a coronavirus relief package. Many claim Trump is purposely starving the postal service in an attempt to slow down an expected surge of mail-in ballots this November. “Donald Trump’s ineffective leadership gravely worsened the crisis that we are in and he is now taking advantage of it to subvert and destroy our right to vote and vote safely. Request a ballot early. Vote early,” Swift wrote. “Trump’s calculated dismantling of USPS prov...
Cardi B had one word for Lil Nas X‘s “WAP”-inspired portrait. “Goddam,” she wrote Saturday (Aug. 15), retweeting a sultry picture of the rapper posing shirtless by the pool. Lil Nas X had captioned the photo “certified freak,” with a zany face emoji, when he posted it earlier in the day — a reference to Cardi’s first line in her latest single, “WAP”: “I said certified freak, seven days a week.” Before she was fanning herself over Lil Nas X’s post, Cardi kicked off the weekend on a political note, endorsing New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on social media for a future presidential run. The Bronx-born politician was seen jamming out to “Bodak Yellow” to which Cardi responded: “...
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq debuted earlier this month, promising Tesla-like range and technology. Now, Cadillac is providing clues as to how much the electric crossover will cost when it debuts in late 2022 or early 2023. As Automotive News reports, the Lyriq will start under $60,000. That’s according to Steve Carlisle, president of General Motors North America, who made the announcement at the JP Morgan Auto Conference on Wednesday. “This car will need to be priced similar to how the industry prices midsize lux SUVs today, maybe a slight premium at the outset,” said Carlisle. “It’s a price that won’t be high five digits. It won’t start with a seven and it won’t start with a six.” Full pricing information will be released closer to the mod...
Ed Roth was a man of many talents: painter, pinstriper, airbrush artist, fabricator. He was also a great self-promoter. Roth understood that an artist working in obscurity would likely starve. Success meant getting the word out about your skills. In the early 1950s, Roth bought a 1948 Ford, painted it red, lettered it with the name of his business and phone number, and adorned the roof over the back window with papier-mache head and hands. Sort of a bizarre take on the old “Kilroy was Here” cartoon. But, as he told Tony Thacker in the book Hot Rods by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, that head “drew too many complaints.” So in 1957, he bought a light green 1956 Ford F-100 pickup. Roth repainted the truck white and adorned it with red flames and added a tonneau cover...
Source: Magdelena / Radio One Houston Comedian Kev-On Stage had to put on his “teacher” cap after calling out white teens on social media for attempting to appropriate the legendary and original “Chopped and Screwed” sound of Houston icon DJ Screw. On Thursday (Aug 13), the comedian took to social media with a response to a young teen who attempted to credit a white producer named Slater with originating the early 90s sound and gave her a quick lesson on the true originator of the sound she called a “slowed and reverb phenomenon”—DJ Screw. “White people, y’all don’t know what y’all be talking about but you be confidently loud and wrong!” Kev-On Stage began. “You really tried to gentrify chopped and screwed. I know you don’t know who DJ Screw is, but I guarantee you Slater is not the invent...
Source: @6ix9ine / Instagram Hip-Hop’s most hated troll is up to his old tricks again. This time the rainbow haired stool pigeon used a late great to get some shine. As spotted on HipHopDX, Tekashi 6ix9ine paid a trip to California. His visit for the most part didn’t produce any big headlines he did make a calculated pit stop to the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles. There he captured some footage of him paying respects to the late great Nipsey Hussle via a graffiti mural. While it has become common practice for rappers to pay homage to King Nip when they are in town everything about this moment screamed to be a reach for attention. In a video post to his Instagram account he is seen getting one knee and saying a prayer in front of the painting. The caption read “REST IN PEACE NISPEY ! I K...

Despite the Weeknd’s major label debut Kiss Land coming out seven years ago, it topped iTunes’ R&B chart for the first time this week. To celebrate the unexpected achievement, Abel Tesfaye decided to feature “a collection of records that inspired the universe and a few songs and ideas that didn’t make the album” during the latest episode of his Memento Mori radio show Friday night. He played a number of unreleased tracks and outtakes as a “special thank you episode to the fans for showing so much love to kiss land this week,” and threw in a few other surprises, including a remix of Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence track “Money Power Glory.” Though the song was never properly released, the singers would go on to collaborate on Del Rey’s “Lust For Life” in ...
