First Country is a compilation of the best new country songs, videos and albums that dropped this week. Hear the latest from Dan + Shay, Rascal Flatts and more below. Dan + Shay, “I Should Probably Go To Bed” This gorgeous pop piano ballad, co-written by the CMA Awards’ reigning vocal duo, elevates the pair to new heights and should find success across several formats. Arranged and produced by Dan Smyers, the opening solo piano quickly swells to include strings and towards the end builds to a lovely crescendo before sliding back to solo piano. Shay Mooney’s boundless range still surprises as he hits notes that will probably haunt him when he has to sing the song live for decades to come. The harmonies and layered backing vocals recall the Beach Boys, Beatles and ELO. The first single from ...
Beyoncé had the BeyHive swarming Disney+ early Friday morning (July 31) to watch her Black Is King visual album, but which of her solo albums still has you buzzing? Excluding her work in Destiny’s Child and her Everything Is Love LP with husband Jay-Z under the name The Carters, Queen Bey has six No. 1 albums to her regal title, from her debut studio album Dangerously in Love to her surprise eponymous project Beyoncé. Then, of course, there’s her new Black Is King visual album, which celebrates the journey of a young Black king and is accompanied by a deluxe edition of The Lion King: The Gift, which adds three new tracks and eliminates the audio snippets from the Disney live-action remake of The Lion King. Bey also gav...

Sam Smith teamed up with Nigerian star Burna Boy for the innovative “My Oasis” and A$AP Ferg told us to “Move Ya Hips” in a fun new collab with Nicki Minaj and MadeInTYO. Josh Homme dusted off a Them Crooked Vultures deep cut during Lollapalooza’s virtual festival on Thursday, playing a solo acoustic version of “Spinning in Daffodils.” The Queens of the Stone Age frontman, sporting a regal mustache and beard, tackled the track in a backyard-type setting, cranking out dusty, knotty riffs on his Gibson. Homme was introduced by Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell, whose former band Porno for Pyros reunited for the first time in over two decades to play a brief acoustic set. “Spinning in Daffodils” appears on Them Crooked Vulture’s 2009 debut LP, which features the core power trio of Homme, Dave Grohl, and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. According to Setlist, they performed that song 71 times onstage; Homme previously played it twice. Lolla2020, which replace...
Michigan native Iggy Pop recruits soccer fans to support Detroit City FC in a new ad promoting the team’s crowdfunding equity campaign. “You’ve been saying ‘we’ for years,” the Stooges singer intones in the clip. “‘We are the pride of this city.’ ‘We don’t march to anyone’s drum but our own.’ ‘We are City ’til we die.’ Now it’s time to own up. Be an owner of Detroit City FC.” Detroit City launched the campaign on Thursday as a fundraising measure to help renovate their stadium, expand their staff, and create a reserve fund during the financial challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The club’s co-owner and CEO, Sean Mann, told The Athletic that they aim to sell up to 10 percent of the team in $125 shares or units, eyeing an overall goal of $1.2 million. Toby Barlow, co-...
When Lollapalooza moved its festival from Grant Park in Chicago to everyone’s computer screens due to the pandemic, the longtime music fest also promised the return of Porno For Pyros. And last night (July 31), the original members — Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins and Peter DiStefano with Mike Watt (a member of PFP in 1996-1997) — delivered. The set took place in a Southern California backyard and was performed acoustically. They played their hit, “Pets” off their self-titled 1993 debut as well as “Kimberly Austin,” a deep cut from the 1997 sophomore LP Good God’s Urge. Despite the lack of a mic and the potential need of increasing the volume a little to hear Farrell’s vocals come through at full force, it was a solid set and makes you forget its been years since they all played live ...
Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty Back in late June, it was announced that Dr. Dre’s wife Nicole Wolf was moving on to the next episode by filing divorce paperwork citing “irreconcilable differences.” It was believed at the time there was no prenup in place, but that’s not the case at all. TMZ is reporting that Dr. Dre has finally answered his soon-to-be ex-wife’s petition for divorce. In his answer filed by Disso Queen Laura Wasser, Dre states he has no problem providing spousal support for Wolf. But when it comes to deciding who gets what when it comes to property distribution that will be “governed by their prenuptial agreement,” the celebrity gossip site reports. According to TMZ, Wolf did not mention the prenuptial agreement in her petition for divorce, and sources close to her con...
Source: mark peterson / Getty Twitter has permanently suspended the account of David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader. However, fellow White Supremacist Donald Trump is still on app acting a fool, per usual. According to the Verge, Duke—a notable fan of Cheeto—got the boot for “repeated violations of the Twitter Rules on hateful conduct” according to a spokesperson from Twitter. Duke had almost 54,000 followers when his Twitter account was shuttered. As for Donald Trump, he currently has 84.4 million followers tuning in to his daily drivel. That’s not counting people who don’t follow him but either check in to keep up with the insanity or see his racist rhetoric RT’d into their timelines. One of the illegitimate President’s latest KKK friendly messages was a dog bark to racists in the ...
Mastodon issued a previously unreleased song, the ferocious “Fallen Torches,” and announced a new compilation LP, Medium Rarities. The album, which follows 2017’s Emperor of Sand, is out on Sept. 11 via Reprise Records. “Fallen Torches,” like most of the set’s other rare tunes, makes its digital debut. Mastodon recorded the song last year in Atlanta, recruiting guest vocals from Neurosis’ Scott Kelly, their longtime friend and collaborator. The band originally planned to issue the track in support of a European tour, but they held off in order to focus on Stairway to Nick John, a tribute to their late longtime manager Nick John. Medium Rarities features cover versions (including Feist’s “A Commotion,” The Flaming Lips’ “A Spoonful Weighs a Ton,” Metallica’s “Orion”), soundtr...
Like a cockroach in a nuclear wasteland, the Toyota 4Runner simply refuses to die. No surprise, then, that the 4Runner enters the 2021 model year as fundamentally the same SUV it was more than a decade ago. Despite this, Toyota continues to improve upon its aging mid-size model, and all 2021 4Runners benefit from the addition of LED low-beam headlights and fog lights. Step up to the more luxurious Limited, dark-hued Nightshade, or off-road-ready TRD Pro trims and the Japanese automaker tosses in LED high-beam headlights, too. Exterior lighting is far from the only change to the body-on-frame 4Runner, and the boxy Toyota looks to capitalize on its off-tarmac capabilities by way of a new (and previously unveiled) Trail special edition model that adds TRD wheels, a Yakima rooftop ca...
Despite occupying the top slot in General Motors’ brand hierarchy, Cadillac won’t get the first electric vehicle from GM’s dedicated new electric vehicle architecture. That honor goes to GMC, which is getting the 2022 Hummer EV SUT, an electric pickup that goes into production in the fall of 2021, and which will be followed later by an SUV. (GM just released more details on the pair, in fact.) Instead, Cadillac will run a close second behind GMC—its Lyriq electric crossover will go on sale for the 2023 model year. Prior to that, the full unveil of a production-previewing concept will happen on August 6, and we know plenty about both the concept and the eventual streetgoing model. Indeed, the Lyriq concept is an unusually direct precursor to the production model, and GM sa...
