Bully’s Alicia Bognanno Covers Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’

Bully’s Alicia Bognanno strips down a Mazzy Star classic with her solo cover of 1993’s “Fade Into You.” Watch below. In the home-recorded video, she sings silky lines over an electric guitar strum, moving from a clean verse tones into a grungy chorus distortion. An added visual bonus: The room’s backdrop includes skittering, glowing lights and a pair of ice cream cone lamps, one positioned atop her amplifier. In early May, Bognanno released a pair of covers, Nirvana’s “About a Girl” and Orville Peck’s “Turn to Hate,” as part of Bandcamp’s fee-waiving First Friday series, which is now set to run through year’s end. The singer recently announced the next Bully album, SUGAREGG, out August 21. Lead single “Where to Start,” she told Rolling Stone, was inspired by Chumbawumba’s briefly ubiquitou...

Mastodon’s Brann Dailor: New LP Features Prettiness, ‘Super Progginess’

Mastodon are tough to categorize in the first place, but the prog-metal band’s upcoming eighth album sounds like it will be impossible to pigeonhole. Drummer Brann Dailor detailed the project’s sprawling sonic landscapes in a new interview with Metal Hammer, calling it “all over the map.” “There’s some big, big heavy riffs that are happening, so that’s what I’m into,” he said of the LP, which is tentatively due out in 2021. “And then there’s some guitar gymnastics by Brent Hinds that have been some of the most difficult things I’ve tried to wrap my head around and play drums to.” He continued, “So there’s some super progginess coming from him, and some really super pretty moments. But there’s some rockers in there, too. There’s some heavy, fast stuff as well. But a lot of it is kind of doo...

From Billboard Charts to TikTok Dances: Behind Nio Garcia’s Viral ‘La Jeepeta’

After making the rounds with “Te Bote (Remix)” next to Casper, Darell, Nicky Jam, Bad Bunny, and Ozuna — which landed at No. 36 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 2018 — Nio Garcia unleashed “La Jeepeta” in January. The chorus was born inside a jeep after the power went off at Garcia’s recording studio in Puerto Rico. In January, he dropped the first version of “La Jeepeta” — a catchy mid-tempo reggaeton — in collaboration with Brray and Juanka, released via Flow La Movie and powered by GLAD Empire. Three months later, and in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Anuel AA and Myke Towers jumped on the remix, bringing “La Jeepeta” to a whole ‘nother level. Unlike the original, which did not secure a spot on the Hot Latin Songs chart, the remix arrived in...

Bandcamp’s First Friday Fundraisers to Continue Through the Rest of the Year

Bandcamp’s First Friday fundraisers — where all sales have gone directly to the artists — will continue through the end of 2020. In a statement on the company’s website, CEO Ethan Diamond outlined the decision to keep the program going. “We started Bandcamp Fridays back in March to support artists impacted by the pandemic, and in the past few months the music community has come together in a huge way: in just four days, fans put more than $20 million directly into the pockets of artists and labels,” he said. “That’s incredible, but just as amazing is that since the pandemic hit in March, fans have bought more than $75 million worth of music and merch directly from artists and labels, and to date, fans have paid artists over half a billion(!) dollars on Bandcamp.” He added that the direct c...

Big Boi and Kate Bush in the studio together? While some would not put these two on a song together, Big Boi has been a huge fan of the UK artist’s music. In a recent interview with SiriusXM Volume, the Outkast member opened up about his admiration for Bush. “I love Kate Bush. That’s my people, man,” Big Boi said in the interview. “My uncle turned me on to her since I was like in 8th grade. And this is like my mom’s brother, like the weirdo brother. He turned me on to Kate and Fleetwood Mac and Sting and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and he just listened to everything. So I grew up listening to Bob Marley too, and my top two artists of all time is 1A and 1B, Bob Marley and Kate Bush. And then No. 2 would be N.W.A.” As for his wanting to collaborate in the studio with the British singer, Big Boi sai...
