Source: Jordan Brand / Jordan Brand If you tried to cop those ridiculously coveted Air Jordan 1 Dior sneakers, the odds were against you. Reportedly, 5 million people signed up to get a pair, but only 8,000 were available. Yeah, that resale price is going to be exorbitant (at the time of this post, the last sale was for a cool $12,800 on StockX)—off an already healthy $2,200 retail price. Christian Dior Couture chairman and CEO of Pietro Beccari told WWD that 5 million people signed up for the raffle for a chance to cop either the LO (those were $2000) or HI version of the Air Jordan 1 OG DIOR that first appeared at the fashion brand’s Fall 2019 Men’s runway show in Miami. Only 8,000 were available to civilians while an additional 5,000 were given away to top Dior clients. So consider this...
Following his response regarding allegations of sexual misconduct, Bassnectar took to social media today to formally announce an indefinite hiatus from music. “I am stepping back from my career and I am stepping down from my position of power and privilege in this community because I want to take responsibility and accountability,” he wrote. “I feel intense compassion for anyone I may have hurt. I truly hope you allow me a chance to work together toward healing.” “The rumors you are hearing are untrue, but I realize some of my past actions have caused pain, and I am deeply sorry,” he continued. “I am handing off our nonprofit Be Interactive to a diverse team to continue without my involvement moving forward. Sometime in the future I may share more ...
On Independence Day, Kanye West tweeted that he’s running for president. It’s not the first time the rapper has declared an interest in taking over the Oval Office. At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, he announced at the end of his 11-minute Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech that he’s aiming for the highest office: “I have decided in 2020 to run for president.” It’s no surprise that wife Kim Kardashian is showing her support after his latest announcement. She retweeted the rapper’s July 4 message with an emoji of the American flag. Entrepreneur Elon Musk is also backing Ye, tweeting in response to West’s announcement: “You have my full support!” But how does the music community feel about Yeezy 2020? Reactions were mixed afte...
Taylor Swift for president in 2020? Her fans sure hope so. Swifties around the nation took to social media on Saturday (July 4) to call for the pop superstar to run for president following Kanye West‘s announcement that he’ll be running for commander in chief in the 2020 election. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” West tweeted Saturday night, adding an American flag emoji and the hashtag #2020VISION. Swift’s fans quickly reacted to the unexpected news, begging the singer — who has been at odds with West for more than a decade — to run against the rapper/fashion mogul this November. “How about taylor swift as the president ...
Hilary Duff is calling out her fellow citizens who aren’t protective wearing masks amid the coronavirus pandemic. The 32-year-old singer and actress took to Instagram on Saturday (July 4) to express her frustration after driving by a party in Los Angeles where people did not have their faces covered. “Drove by a raging house party on Mulholland. A–holes. No masks (of course). Girls in bathing suits and louboutins waiting to get in like a line at a club,” Duff captioned a series of family photos. “California is in bad shape (in so many ways) but doesn’t everyone think we all want to go out freely and travel and enjoy summer.” California Gov. Gavin Newsom has noted that people in the Golden State — including cities in L.A. County — could be iss...
While some artists are testing out drive-in concerts in the age of the coronavirus, others are opting for a more “normal” experience — with some restrictions. Last night, DaBaby played a 4th of July show at the Cosmopolitan Premier Lounge in Decatur, GA (just outside Atlanta), and as TMZ reported, the promoter ensured it would be a safe experience. They planned to implement a no mask, no entry rule and enforce face covering throughout the night; they were going to do temperature checks and ask health screening questions at the door; the venue would be limited to 40% of its 4,000 person capacity; DaBaby would only be allowed three people onstage, and those guests would enter and exit from a parking lot entrance; and the venue would be organized to easily social distant. Cut t...
Like Axl Rose himself said, his thoughts about the current administration is “no secret” — Guns N’ Roses recently put out a t-shirt criticizing President Trump, after all — and on Saturday the frontman explained why he feels obligated to speak out about politics on social media in a lengthy post. “My disdain 4 r current administration n’ what I perceive as it’s threat to r democracy is no secret,” he admitted. “I’m not all that active w/social media n’ tho I more than appreciate anyone who takes an interest in something I might post I don’t really have an interest in how many followers or retweets etc. I have as my political or social issue posts rn’t about me. They’re about the issues.” “In general my posts in regard to current events, politics or social issues r usually coming from a sen...
Way back in 2015 at the VMAs, Kanye West vowed to run for president in 2020. Everyone laughed it off at the time as a ruse and it seemed ridiculous at the time, but apparently he wasn’t kidding! On the 4th of July, West declared that he’s running for president. Don’t believe us? See it for yourself. We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! #2020VISION — ye (@kanyewest) July 5, 2020 If that’s not enough to process on a holiday, get this: West says that Elon Musk has endorsed his candidacy. So that’s what that meeting earlier in the week was about… You have my full support! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 5, 2020 Guess the noted Trump supporter isn’t voting for the...
In recent days, Bassnectar (real name Lorin Ashton) was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of people on the Instagram account @evidenceagainstbassnecatar. On Friday, the DJ addressed the allegations by announcing he was “stepping away” from his music career and his “position of power and privilege” while maintaining his innocence. “I am stepping back from my career and I am stepping down from my position of power and privilege in this community because I want to take responsibility and accountability,” Ashton wrote in a statement on Twitter. “I feel intense compassion for anyone I may have hurt. I truly hope you allow me a chance to work together toward healing.” However, the EDM star denies the accusations. “The rumors you are hearing are untrue, but I realize some of my past a...
Like 90% of independent music venues across the country, North Carolina’s Cat’s Cradle is at risk of shutting its doors for good in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Thankfully, local artists are banding together to raise money for the club with Cover Charge: NC Artists Go Under Cover to Benefit Cat’s Cradle. The 25-track benefit compilation sees Superchunk, the Mountain Goats, Iron & Wine and more notable North Carolinians cover their favorite songs in an effort to save the venue, which has been hosting concerts for 50 years. Today, you can hear Superchunk’s contribution to the album — a cover of the Go-Go’s “Can’t Stop The World” — along with songs from Hiss Golden Messenger and Jonathan Wilson, Sarah Shook & The Disarmers, the d...
Guns N’ Roses planned to be on the road right now, but like so many other bands their plans were thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic. Now, instead of rehearsing the hits, the band is using its downtime to work on new music. Slash recently gave fans an update on what he’s been up to during quarantine while chatting with music store Sweetwater. “I’ve been pretty much a homebody, but I’ve been back and forth between my studio in the house and doing a lot of writing and recording on my own,” he said. “I’ve been jamming with Duff [McKagan, bassist] and I’ve been jamming with Axl [Rose, frontman] and I’ve been doing stuff like that, so we’ve been getting some work done that way. But I haven’t been doing much else.” The guitarist added that he hasn’t worked on any other projects since ...
After announcing a new solo album called By The Fire a couple of weeks ago, Thurston Moore shared another track off the project on Friday. “‘Cantaloupe’ is a song about the dance of romance and surrealism, where the hallucinations of wild dreams come true,” the Sonic Youth founder wrote in the Bandcamp description. By the Fire is Moore’s latest project with the Thurston Moore Group, which features former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine bassist Deb Googe, and guitarist James Sedwards. The album is slated for a Sept. 25 release on Moore’s Daydream Library Series label. Moore paired the album announcement with a song called “Hashish.” He also recently released a nine-minute-long instrumental track called “Strawberry Moon,”&n...
