Iggy Pop, David Byrne and other artists are collaborating on a new art project by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. Titled Bedtime Stories, the digital art project asks each collaborator to read from their favorite book — whether it’s “a sentence, passage, chapter, or more.” Some contributors have read their favorite passages while others have shared something they wrote themselves. There were some who also shared an impromptu performance. To kick off the series, which is available on New Museum’s website, Pop pays tribute to his dog. “You were such a good-looking little dog,” he said in the recording. “And the next thing I knew, there you were, standing by my truck, looking up at me. I picked you up, put you on my lap and thought about keeping you — and in less than a minute I was co...
As Lee Ranaldo told us back in February, there was going to be a bunch of activity on the Sonic Youth archival release front (that didn’t include his own activity either) this year. He certainly wasn’t lying! Today (May 15), Sonic Youth added two more releases to their Bandcamp page: the long out-of-print 1987 EP Master-Dik and a live show from 2000’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival. Last month, they dropped 12 live shows and earlier this month, the 1993 live album Blastic Scene. Here’s what the band had to say about the April 8, 2000 show: Sonic Youth’s first live performance in 2000 and their last as a quartet for some time was a predominately instrumental set at the very first All Tomorrows Parties Festival. Curated by Mogwai, the event took place at Camber Sands Holiday ...

After teasing fans that a collaboration with Karol G was on the way, the Jonas Brothers officially dropped their new single “X” at midnight on Friday (May 15). In true Jonas Brothers fashion, the tune is catchy dance-pop meshed with flairs of Latin-alt rumba. “She said oh oh oh, kiss me like your ex is in the room,” they sing. The Jonas Brothers and Karol G will perform the new song on The Voice’s two-hour finale airing at 9 p.m. EST on Tuesday (May 19) on NBC. The collaborative effort marks the second time the Jonas Brothers have teamed-up with a Latin act, following the 2019 summer bop “Runaway” with Sebastian Yatra, Daddy Yankee, and Natti Natasha. “X” is accompanied with the b-side “Five More Minutes.” Check out the new Jonas Brothers songs below: [embedded cont...
Charli XCX has used her lockdown time wisely. During the past six weeks in isolation, the British producer and pop renegade got to work and cut a new album, how i’m feeling. The DIY LP, executive produced by Charli, A. G. Cook and BJ Burton, spans 11 tracks and dropped at midnight. How i’m feeling is the product of a special two-way connection with fans, as Charli encouraged her followers to give real-time feedback and contribute to the songs and videos. The new tunes are coursing with the need for action and a human touch, and are detailed with all the emotions of the lockdown experience. It’s the followup to 2019’s Charli. Stream the album below.
Future releases more music than many of us have hot dinners. The Atlanta rapper unleashes another set, High Off Life, featuring assists from a strong lineup of hip-hop stars, including Drake, Travis Scott, Young Thug, YoungBoy NBA, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Durk, Meek Mill and more. Future’s creative well has been overflowing in recent times. His last album Future Hndrxx Presents: The Wizrd dropped in 2019 and topped the Billboard 200, his sixth No. 1 LP in less than three-and-a-half years. The last artist to punch out as many No. 1s in such a short span was Elton John in the early 1970s. High Off Life spans 21 songs, including previously released tracks such as “Last Name,” “100 Shooters,” “Tycoon,” Life Is Good” and “Life Is Good (Remix),” an...
Neil Young’s Homegrown, one of the great “Holy Grails” of his unreleased catalogue, will finally see the light of day some 46 years after its recording. The twelve-track studio set will be released June 19 on all formats, via Reprise Records, the Warner Music Group label and Young announced Friday. In a letter posted to the Neil Young Archives, the legendary Canadian rocker admits Homegrown was the one that got away for far too long. “I apologize,” he writes. “This album Homegrown should have been there for you a couple of years after Harvest. It’s the sad side of a love affair. The damage done. The heartache. I just couldn’t listen to it. I wanted to move on. So I kept it to myself, hidden away in the vault, on the shelf, in the back of my mind….but I should have sha...
Sharon Van Etten and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme have teamed up for a cover of Nick Lowe’s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding.” You are probably familiar with Elvis Costello & the Attraction’s 1978 version of the song and Bill Murray performed it at during a karaoke sequence in 2003’s Lost in Translation. Anyway, Homme has been laying low, so this is his first new musical contribution in a bit, though he’s going to appear on the upcoming Run the Jewels album on a track with Mavis Staples. As for Van Etten, she recently appeared with Fountains of Wayne on the Jersey 4 Jersey benefit show where they performed “Hackensack” in honor of the late Adam Schlesinger. Unlike Costello’s triumphant version, this one is more haunting and twan...
In 2019, cotton candy-hued provocateur and heir to the Cyndi Lauper throne Katy Perry released two of her strongest singles in years, if not ever: “Never Really Over” with its hypnotically synthesized hook, and the adorably awkward just-friends paean “Small Talk.” But no album has materialized since 2017’s Wokeness Witness. That is about to change; the pop singer just dropped a surprise single, “Daisies,” her first release of 2020. The video, shot during quarantine, sees the singer performing the song in daisy. It was directed by Liza Voloshin. As for the album, tentatively titled KP5, it is set to be released on Aug. 14 via Capitol Records. You can watch the “Daisies” video below. [embedded content]
The Jonas Brothers have two major songs dropping tomorrow (May 15), “X” featuring Karol G and “5 More Minutes,” which they debuted during their 2020 Grammys performance. But their announcement on Twitter from earlier this week illustrated how putting those titles side-by-side spell out “XV,” or 15 in Roman numerals. The JoBros have been in the music business for the last 15 years, so does that mean the trio plan on celebrating this monumental anniversary with another studio project? The three artists hopped on SiriusXM Hits 1 Celebrity Session today (May 14) to chat with frontline healthcare workers who are combating the coronavirus and to talk about their upcoming music releases, the two fans already have marked on their calendars and then som...
The top 10 of Billboard‘s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart looks a lot like a greatest hits collection from the past few years, with Lady Gaga‘s The Fame (2008), Odesza‘s A Moment Apart (2017) and Calvin Harris‘ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 (2017) all occupying top positions. As time passes, these older LPs just keep racking up plays, as other new projects also rise. With a collection of dance world superstars all riding high on the list, we want to know your favorite album from the top 10. Let us know by voting below!
There’s still no telling when concerts, events, and public gatherings will be allowed to resume in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic. But an industry report now predicts that should events return, they certainly won’t look anything like the way they did before. According to a new report by the Event Safety Alliance (ESA), attendees at potential concerts and events in the future may still have to continue on with social distancing guidelines that mandate a six-foot separation between people. This means no rail-riding, crowd-surfing, mosh pits, grinding, cheeky back rubs, human pyramids, or any other type of physical interaction one might expect to experience at a music show. Furthermore, attendees could be subject to being cordoned in their own ̶...
