The Best & The Worst of The 2022 Grammy Awards

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: CBS Photo Archive / Getty The 64th Grammy Awards held a lot of spectacle, and a couple of surprises, without any hands being thrown like last week. Of course, the evening didn’t go without a couple of snubs along the way. Held for the first time in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sunday (April 3), the Grammys were billed as a return to the splendor of ceremonies past before the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the awards show started out of the gate with a captivating performance by the duo of Silk Sonic, better known as Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak — really a trio if you count THAT wig. The duo’s performance showed off the pizazz they’ve been exhibiting during their MGM residency and would be the backdrop for their winning all four of the categories they we...

Jay Electronica Reappears From Mountainside Portal With “Exhibit G” Leak

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty To say that Jay Electronica is elusive would be a massive understatement but that still doesn’t dull interest in the musical happenings of the mythical lyricist. A reportedly new track titled “Exhibit G” and said to be produced by Just Blaze leaked to the Internet and the New Orleans star sounds as formidable as ever. Not much is known about “Exhibit G” other than it serves to be an extension of the other “Exhibit” tracks such as “Exhibit A,” “Exhibit B” with Yasiin Bey, and the classic “Exhibit C” that still stands as one of Jay Elec’s greatest moments. On “Exhibit G,” Electronica’s voice sits high in the mix and the production is an apt backdrop for his visual penmanship. From “Exhibit G”: Came a long way from the bottom, Our Father...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: LeoPatrizi / Getty Peace to the HHW Nation! It’s been a while but we’re back with a new update to our CRT FRSH (Certified Fresh) playlist and we’re aiming to get back to the consistency you all expect. Part of our duty as a publication and crew is to school the masses on who is doing what musically and there’s no better way to do that beyond our CRT FRSH (Certified Fresh) bi-weekly playlist. The CRT FRSH playlist is a labor of love. We don’t take payments nor do we do favors. We only add joints to our playlist that fit the theme and vision we’re going for and don’t seek to waste the time of the listener. Further, we don’t stick to one lane of Hip-Hop. We believe that all aspects of the music should get some light whether it’s young lions in the trenches t...

Jim Jones ft. Dave East, Maino & Fabolous “Fit Lit (Betty White),” Lil Durk ft. Future “Petty Too” & More | Daily Visuals 3.31.22

HipHopWired Featured Video For a minute there Jim Jones, Dave East, Maino and Fabolous were constantly posting video on social media roasting each other for the outfits they wore to the gym, so it makes sense that the New Yorkers would eventually just get around to making a song about it. For the visuals to “Fit Lit (Betty White),” Jones, East, Maino and Fab take to the gym dripped out in official attire and hella ice while some gym rats pump iron and thick women work on their curves. Leave it to rappers to rock expensive attire while working out. Back in Chicago Lil Durk keeps those 7220 visuals coming and in his latest clip to the Future assisted “Petty Too,” Durk takes a thick young woman on a shopping spree before meeting Future on the roof of the building. That Chicago skyline is some...

DJ Drama & Dreamville Drop Power-Packed ‘D-DAY: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape’

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Dreamville / Dreamville Records I normally don’t write posts on Hip-Hop Wired in my own voice because, well, who cares about what I have to say nine times out of 10, right? However, I want to be honest and say that I’m just eight songs on DJ Drama & Dreamville Presents D-DAY: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape and it’s definitely going to blow some minds due to its high quality and variety. The genius of J. Cole’s squad releasing this project on the eve of the revived Dreamville Festival this weekend can’t be understated and every member of the roster came to show the absolute best of their abilities. Without laboring through each track, we’ll just say that J.I.D., EarthGang, Ari Lennox, Lute, Cozz, Bas, Omen, and J. Cole show and prove across the 15 trac...

Will Packer, who produced this year’s Oscars, spoke exclusively with Good Morning America on April 1 and shared what he experienced during and after the moment Will Smith decided to smack fire out of Chris Rock. In the interview with T.J. Holmes, Packer revealed that Rock was freestyling and “did not get to one joke” pre-written and displayed on the teleprompter. “He did not tell one of the planned jokes. He was immediately freestyling,” Packer said. Related Stories Like many of us who saw it all go down live, Packer didn’t think something serious was going to go down when Smith stepped on the stage...

Chris Rock Shuts Down Fan Who Yelled “F*ck Will Smith”

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Boston Globe / Getty Will Smith may not be Chris Rock’s favorite person these days due to obvious reasons, but that doesn’t mean he wants anyone else to hate on the Hollywood heavyweight. According to People, a fan attempted to curse out Will Smith at Chris Rock’s live comedy show at The Wilbur in Boston yesterday after the comedian took the stage, but Rock continued to take the high road and shut down the Smith slander. During his set an audience member yelled out “F*ck Will Smith!” but Rock quickly killed that noise by saying “”No, no, no, no, no…” Real talk, a lesser man probably would’ve encouraged that kind of hate and anger at his show, but Chris Rock didn’t want to take it there regardless of how “mean spirited” some people may think he is. HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bernard Smalls / @BeanzGotGamez Is this a sign that the world is beginning to heal? The once elusive Xbox Series X is now readily available. No, we’re not kidding. Since its launch, the Xbox Series X has been extremely hard to get, immediately selling out when stock hits websites like Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, or Amazon. That was until Friday (Apr.1). If you head over to Amazon or Walmart, you will be surprised to see the console is still IN STOCK, and yes, at its retail price of $499 (Amazon) and $646.25 (Walmart).  Related Stories We have hit the refresh button many times to see if the “in stock” changes to “out of stock,” and much to our surprise, it has not yet changed. This is a huge development, being that the system has been very difficult ...
