Nicki Minaj Talks Motherhood and More For ‘Interview’ With Jada Pinkett Smith

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Arturo Holmes/MG22 / Getty Nicki Minaj is a legend and a superstar. She is also a mother and by some recent accounts a bully to the many female rappers who have come in her wake. She sat down with Red Table Talk host, Jada Pinkett Smith for Interview Magazine to talk about these issues and more.  The “Super Freaky Girl” rapper shared that she had delayed returning to work after the birth of her son with husband Kenneth Petty. The baby was born in September 2020 and she said that she experienced “real bad separation anxiety.”  Nicki Minaj notes that a lot of that anxiety derived from her own childhood when her mother left her with relatives in Trinidad to pursue job opportunities in the United States. “So I’m reliving all of those things now beca...

Here’s Why Nicki Minaj & Latto Are Beefing

Nicki Minaj‘s frustrations regarding her Grammy genre shuffle have resulted in the latest rap beef. During an Instagram Live on Thursday, Minaj voiced her concerns over “Super Freaky Girl” being moved from the rap category to pop on the 2023 Grammy ballet, deeming it unfair. Minaj — who despite countless hit singles and albums and 10 nominations over the years has yet to win a Grammy — is not the first artist to raise questions about the Recording Academy’s categorizing methods. In the video, she mentions Drake’s best rap song win with “Hotline Bling” at the 2017 Grammys (a point of contention for the Toronto rapper, who said the song was pop but only categorized as rap because of his race and past music) and Latto’s “Big Energy” being eligible to compete in this year’s rap field. “If ‘Sup...

Banks took to her Instagram stories to share her acerbic take, which includes alluding that Nicki Minaj has a drug problem, needs to worry about her baby son more and is only fattening up the pockets of men in the music industry. “When is she going to realize that everytime she fight [sic] wi...

Latto Slams Nicki Minaj, Twitter Beef Is On: “Ur Older Than My Mom Tryna Be A Bully”

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Scott Legato / Getty Seems like Big Latto has had enough. The Atlanta rapper took to Twitter to slam Nicki Minaj for what she described as months of subtweets. And she didn’t pull any punches. “I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm,” tweeted Latto, @’ing Minaj, so you know it’s real. “You’re asking why I didn’t speak up in ur defense… it’s the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn’t congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully.” What started the fireworks (because of course Nicki clapped back) was the Grammys moving the Queens rapper’s hit “Super Freaky Girl” from the Rap to the Pop category. Apparently, while sharing her frustration, she suggested Latto’s own hit, “Big Energy,” be...

University of California, Berkeley To Offer Course On Nicki Minaj’s Impact On The Music Industry

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Arturo Holmes / Getty It’s always a wonderful thing to see Hip-Hop be included in academia. It’s not that the culture really needs that validation, but whenever specific artists inspire college-level school curricula, it’s a reminder that Hip-Hop isn’t just a genre or even just an art form — it’s a movement and a tool to inform the masses. The University of California, Berkeley, will soon be offering a course that explores the cultural impact of none other than the “Chun Swae” queen herself, Nicki Minaj. Related Stories The course is titled “Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip Hop Feminisms,” and if you’re a UC student who also happens to be a Barbz and a scholar,  you might want to head to the nearest course registration office. HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Prince Williams / Getty Monday, October 3, was a complete mess on social media. Kanye West went Super Saiyan coon, and Cardi B and City Girls member JT started beefing out of nowhere. The once budding friendship between the Hip-Hop stars looked shaky, but apparently, blogger Jason Lee was the only one who could save it. Twitter collectively pulled up their lawn chairs as Cardi B and JT went at each other on the social media platform, and it looked like the two were heading to a place of no return until Jason Lee decided to step in and “fix” the situation. Jason Lee, the CEO of the Hollywood Unlocked gossip site, decided to take a break from his vacation to address the situation. Lee immediately stated he would get on the phone with both artists to b...

More Mess: “It’s Giving Coke” Trends On Twitter, Nicki Minaj Appears To Be The Target

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Nicki Minaj wasn’t thought to be a part of the current back and forth between Cardi B and Akbar V, but many on Twitter are suggesting the opposite. On Twitter, the trending topic “IT’S GIVING COKE” is ringing off and Nicki Minaj is seemingly the target. As most Hip-Hop fans are well aware, certain artists have a collective of fans, or “hives” that put all of their energy into celebrating their respective faves. Sometimes, these groups of fans really take their roles seriously and become digital foot soldiers on the battlefield which is social media. That said, Nicki Minaj probably didn’t help matters earlier today if the subtweeting Cardi B accusations are true. Rewinding just a bit, Cardi and Akbar V got into a nasty war of word...
