Nigerian government approves e-SIM trial for MTN

MTN Nigeria Plc (MTN) has announced the trial of e-SIM services on its network based on approvals received from the Federal Government. The trial which kicked-off on Wednesday will run for one year and is open on a first come first served basis to a limited number of subscribers who own compatible devices, a statement from MTN said. Ex-NIMASA chief sentenced to jail for N1.5bn fraud

A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a former Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Executive Director (ED), Captain Ezekiel Bala Agaba, to seven years imprisonment for laundering N1.5 billion. Agaba, who was in charge of Maritime, Safety and Shipping, was said to have looted the money from the agency. Agaba and nine others were charged before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2015. IGP asks Ibrahim Magu’s lawyer to request for bail from presidential panel

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has asked Tosin Ojaomo, the counsel for the embattled former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to direct the request for his client’s bail to the Presidential panel investigating his activities in office. Adamu said the police were not investigating Magu and is accordingly, not being detained by the force but by the panel headed by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami. Adamu said this in a letter dated July 14, 2020, in response to the bail application filed by Ojaomo for the release of his client who had been in police custody since July 6. NMA warns Lagos not escalate impasse with medical doctors

Presidential panel grills four EFCC sectional heads

The officials had previously appeared before the panel last week but were said to have been unable to provide meaning responses to queries. They were therefore instructed to return to the panel on Tuesday armed with relevant documents and answers to the questions raised. OPEC: Nigeria cuts oil production to 1.4 million barrels per day

Reuters For the first time in many years, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, has confirmed Nigeria’s ability to cut its output from 1.7 million barrels per day, mb/d in May to 1.4mb/d in June 2020. In its July Oil Market Report, OPEC stated that the data was based on information obtained from official sources, adding that when unofficial sources are considered, Nigeria produced 1.5 mb/d during the period. Oyo judiciary releases names of vacation judges

As the Oyo State judiciary commences its annual vacation, on Wednesday, based on the provisions of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2010 and other enabling laws, the placement of area of operations for vacation judges has been released for judges that have shown an intention to work during the vacation so that there won’t be a vacuum for time-bound cases.
