Akwa Ibom state Government has stated its determination and readiness to henceforth disengage any teacher under its employ displaying acts of truancy and academic laxity. Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), Dr Ekaette Ebong Okon, who made this known weekend while interacting with newsmen in Uyo, said government has discovered that secondary school teachers posted to rural areas always abandon their work for farming and trading activities. Official: NDLEA seizes N1.4 billion worth of cannabis in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State said it has uncovered suspected cannabis warehouses in Ukpuje forest in Owan West Local Government Area of the state. Buba Wakawa, the state commander of the agency, announced this at a news conference on Saturday in Benin City. Mr Wakawa said the village had four large warehouses with 233,778 kilogrammes of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis. The substance, according to him, has an estimated street value of more than N1.4 billion. Seven people believed to be running the cannabis trafficking syndicate have been apprehended, he said. “This is the largest single concentration of cannabis discovered by the command,” he added. Official: Kano government amends child rights act ‘to reflect Sharia’

The Kano State Executive Council has approved and amended the proposed bill on Child Rights (protection) Act 2010 “to reflect the position of Sharia on all sections of the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003″. Muhammed Garba, Commissioner for Information in Kano State disclosed this in statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Kano on Saturday, Mr Garba said the decision for the approval was reached at its state council meeting in line with the Federal Government policy of 2003 where states were asked to domesticate the bill .
