Afenifere disowns, condemns quit notice to Igbo people

The Pan Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, on Saturday distanced and disowned itself from the ultimatum some Nigerian national, especially the Inbox to vacate the southern region within the next 48 hours. The group who stated this in a statement issued by the leader of the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and signed by the General Secretary of the group, Chief Sehinde Arogbofa, said such directive does not emanate from the group. A coalition of women groups, Mothers United and Mobilised (MUM), has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute a transparent panel of inquiry into alleged shooting of unarmed EndSARS protesters in Lekki on Tuesday. Foundation trains NIS, NAPTIP, Police on strategies to fight traffickers

The International Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) on Tuesday began a three-day training for officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on strategies to fight human trafficking. The Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) are participating in the training. Police arrest 12 suspects over attack on police stations in Benin

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, on Tuesday said that 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attacks and arson on Police Stations in Benin. In a statement in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, disclosed that five AK47 rifles, earlier stolen from vandalised police stations, have also been recovered. Adamu had ordered the deployment of anti-riot police unit, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), to protect lives and property of all Nigerians and secure critical national infrastructure across the country. A popular female disc jockey, DJ Switch, has taken to her Instagram Live to show the aftermath of the shoot out at Lekki Toll Gate. It has been reported that the peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate have been shot at by Nigerian law enforcement agents. In the live video, the disc jockey streamed where she and other peaceful protesters tried to remove a bullet from the leg of a victim of the shoot out. 774,000 jobs: Ministry raises federal lawmakers’ slots

There were strong indications on Sunday that the much awaited 774,000 unskilled jobs for Nigerians would take off in October. It was gathered that following a series of negotiations, the Ministry of Labour and Productivity had increased the slots allocated to each member of the National Assembly. It was learnt that each senator would present 1,000 beneficiaries, while a member of the House of Representatives would present 50 beneficiaries from each of the local government areas in their constituency. The lawmakers were said to have rejected the 30 and 25 slots per senator and Rep member respectively, which was initially allocated to them by the ministry in August. President Buhari vows to check ‘greed of a callous few’

President Muhammadu Buhari has stressed the need for all arms of government to deploy resources to address the common needs of all citizens rather than the greed of a callous few.
