Source: Alexandre Morin-Laprise / Getty The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or the Super NES, was a groundbreaking game system in its time. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the SNES might be responsible for the explosion of gaming in the US as it helped launch as well as reinforce some of the largest brands in gaming. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System first arrived in the United States on August 23, 1991, in a limited release before getting an official nationwide release date of September 9, 1991. The SNES was Nintendo’s answer to Sega’s 16-bit console, the Sega Genesis. The SNES would sell 23.35 million consoles in the United States and 49 million worldwide thanks to games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and more. Thousands of games lived on the console, but we...
While Microsoft encouraged co-streaming this year’s massive Twitch-hosted E3 showcase, Nintendo took a different approach in warning streamers against it. E3’s 2021 showcase took place mostly online, in light of concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Nintendo opted out of co-streaming the event from the official Twitch platform, and warned that co-streamers may receive DMCA copyright strikes for streaming E3 due to licensing issues with the music that was used in this year’s festivities. Microsoft actually obtained retransmission rights for all of the music that was used in this year’s streamed event, though those rights will expire after one year. Should co-streamers not delete their VOD (video on demand) before that year-long period is up, they may rece...
Eagle-eyed fans have caught sight of Daft Punk appearing in a print ad for Nintendo’s upcoming video game title, Splatoon 3. The ad appeared in CoroCoro, a Japanese Manga magazine, and features a shot of the forthcoming title on a television. It’s the surrounding decor, however, that particularly caught our eye. Standing up against the bottom left of the TV stand is a flyer for Daft Punk Airlines, which prominently features the dance music duo dressed in shorts and tropical shirts. The slogan “Around The World” is also seen on the flyer, no doubt a head nod to the duo’s groundbreaking 90s hit by the same name. Another Splatoon 3 ad in the magazine depicts a paint streak trailing off far into the distance amid a barren desert l...
Source: SOPA Images / Getty It’s been long-rumored that Nintendo would be dropping a new Nintendo Switch model. This latest report is the closest thing to a confirmation of said model we have gotten yet. Bloomberg reports Nintendo will be dropping an upgraded Switch model this year with an OLED screen. According to the report, Samsung Display will be supplying the 7-inch 720p rigid OLED panel, and it will go into mass production sometime in June. The current Nintendo Switch model has a 6.2-inch 720p LCD panel, while the Nintendo Switch Lite sports a 5.5-inch 720p LCD. One of the biggest complaints about the current Nintendo Switch model is that it has a hard time running many games at a native resolution while being used in handheld mode. Bloomberg states in its report that the ...
Image sourced from The Verge Nintendo is expected to unveil a new Switch fitted with a 7-inch Samsung OLED display. According to Bloomberg, this touchscreen gaming console is expected to “prop up demand in time for the holidays”. Production of the Switch will start in June and shipment to assemblers is scheduled for around July. “The OLED panel will consume less battery, offer higher contrast and possibly faster response time when compared to the Switch’s current liquid-crystal display,” says Yoshio Tamura, co-founder of display consultancy DSCC. “Nintendo seeks to sustain a Switch lineup that continues to sell well against the Xbox and PlayStation, thanks to pandemic-era breakout hits like Animal Crossing and a chip crunch that’s plagued supply of rival devices.” /* custom css */ .tdi_3_6...
