Marvel’s Moon Knight Review: An Odd, Perhaps Inessential, But Often Fun Ride

The Pitch: When Moon Knight viewers first meet Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), he’s a simple man living a relatively simple life in London, working a menial job as a museum gift shop employee and struggling to connect with the people around him. While a bit of an odd duck, personality-wise, Steven has a good heart but a big secret: He keeps experiencing missing time, waking up in strange locations no matter how hard he tries to stay awake or chain himself up in his sleep. The cause for these lapses, as we soon learn, is that Steven shares his body with an entirely separate personality — that of a man known as Marc Spector, who’s caught up in some complicated business involving a golden scarab, a cult leader named Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke), and as we eventually come to discover, the modern-da...

The Many Faces of Moon Knight, Explained

There’s more than meets the eye with Marc Spector, as we’re soon about to learn from the latest Marvel television series, Moon Knight. The highly anticipated series debuts Wednesday (March 30th) on Disney+, and it’s set to be a wild character study unlike anything seen in the MCU. Beyond his nightly habit of donning a silver cape and cowl as the crime-fighting titular Marvel Comics antihero, Marc has the unique distinction of battling for justice while facing his own dissociative identity disorder (DID), which splits his psyche into entirely separate entities. Star Oscar Isaac proudly proclaimed in the first featurette that they are “putting a lens on” the character’s fundamental psychological health aspects. With only a few hints of dueling personalities in the preceding trailers, however...

Thought you’d have to wait until Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ May release for your next MCU fix? After teasing the show during November’s Disney+ Day, Marvel unveiled the full preview during the NFL’s Super Wild Card matchup on Monday night  — during the first full moon of the year, no less. Oscar Isaac leads the series as the title character, who in the comics is really ex-US Marine Marc Spector, a man who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. Oscar Isaac Cast as Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid Movie

Oscar Isaac has been cast as Solid Snake in Sony’s upcoming film adaptation of the beloved Metal Gear Solid video game franchise, according toThe Hollywood Reporter. Unless you’ve been hiding in a cardboard box for the last 30 years, you’ve probably heard of Hideo Kojima’s blockbuster stealth action series. The character first appeared in 1987’s Metal Gear as a naked homage to Snake Plissken, the protagonist of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York. Solid Snake (sometimes known as Iroquois Pliskin and sometimes just David) is a secretive special forces operative and occasional self-employed mercenary. The backstory is notoriously dense, and the series has long deployed lengthy cut-scenes that, while not always fun to play, would seem to make the material perfectly suited for...

Oscar Isaac in Talks for Marvel’s Moon Knight Series on Disney Plus

After playing the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, it looks like Oscar Isaac may be taking on another headlining role in a Marvel project — only this time as a hero. Variety reports the actor is in talks to star in the Moon Knight series coming to Disney+. Should Isaac officially sign on for Moon Knight, he’d play Marc Spector, a rich ex-mercenary who devotes himself to the Egyptian moon god Khonshu in order to save his life. As Knonshu’s avatar Moon Knight, he viciously fights crime with weapons funded by his massive wealth, often drawing comparisons to Batman in that sense. However, Moon Knight isn’t Spector’s only alternate identity, as he creates the personas of millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley to further aid in his heroics. Later incarnations of the character ...

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Gets Delayed Until Late 2021

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune practically broke the Internet last month when the epic first trailer was revealed. But now, that hype will have to stretch another year, as the sci-fi blockbuster has been delayed until October 1st, 2021, reports Collider. That’s a significantly later date than Warner Bros. originally planned, which suggests two things: executives’ hearts are set on a fourth quarter release, the pandemic isn’t loosening its grip anytime soon, or both. While a handful of North American movie theaters have been cautiously reopening in recent months, the latest increase in COVID-19 cases has caused many to shutter their doors once again. While Frank Herbert’s beloved novel and its historically troubled feature films never fared well at the box office, Villeneuve’s Dune adaption seems ...

Oscar Isaac to Star as Francis Ford Coppola in Francis and the Godfather

Oscar Isaac will star as Francis Ford Coppola in Francis and the Godfather, a new feature film about the making of — you guessed it — The Godfather. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Barry Levinson will direct and Jake Gyllenhaal will play legendary Paramount head Robert Evans. The Godfather had a famously troubled production history. Evans picked up the rights to Mario Puzo’s book The Godfather for a pittance after learning that Puzo was up to his eyeballs in gambling debt. As he explained in his autobiography The Kid Stays in the Picture, he then offered the director’s chair to half of Hollywood before landing on Coppola. Personally, Coppola didn’t want anything to do with the “sleazy” story, but wouldn’t you know it, he was also deeply in debt. Things didn’t impr...
