R.I.P. Judith Durham, The Seekers Singer Dead at 79

Judith Durham, singer of the Australian pop band The Seekers, has died at age 79. According to Universal Music Australia, Durham’s cause of death was chronic lung disease. “Our lives are changed forever losing our treasured lifelong friend and shining star,” the company said in a statement. “Her struggle was intense and heroic — never complaining of her destiny and fully accepting its conclusion. Her magnificent musical legacy Keith, Bruce and I are so blessed to share.” Born July 3rd, 1943 in Essendon, Victoria, Judith Mavis Cock studied classical piano at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium. Also a classically trained vocalist, she performed blues, gospel, and jazz pieces before cutting her eponymous debut EP in 1963. Advertisement Related Video Soon after, Durham joined Atho...

Madonna Passes the Baton to Beyoncé in “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)”: Stream

The OG Queen of Pop has officially given her blessing to Queen Bey. Madonna and Beyoncé have teamed up for the aptly titled, “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).” As the first single from Renaissance, “Break My Soul” introduced us to Beyoncé’s new disco-influenced, club-ready era. It makes total sense, then, that the “Queens Remix” would center on a sample of “Vogue,” Madonna’s 1990 classic that helped introduce Ballroom culture to a greater audience. It doesn’t appear that Madonna offered any new vocals to “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix),” but rather gave Beyoncé permission to use “Vogue”‘s famous piano riff (which is important, given recent discourse surrounding Beyoncé’s failure to secure permission before sampling songs). Of course, Beyoncé wouldn’t just sample “Vogue” withou...

Beyoncé Enlists Madonna for ‘The Queens Remix’ of ‘Break My Soul’ & Yes, It’s Iconic

Get ready to strike a pose and vogue, because Beyoncé and Madonna have come together as one for “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).” Queen Bey enlisted the Queen of Pop for the new edition of “Break My Soul” after she recently dropped four remixes of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 smash by will.i.am, Terry Hunter, Honey Dijon and Nita Aviance. But for this remix, Bey pays homage to iconic Black women in music while taking a page out of Madonna’s playbook by reciting the names in the style of Madge’s spoken-word section from her 1990 three-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 smash “Vogue.” The disco-tinged house track — which also topped the Dance Club Songs tally — name-checks famous “Golden Age” actors from Marlon Brando to James Dean to Grace Kelly to Bette Davis. But when Bey takes over the ...

John Legend Says He and Kanye West “Haven’t Been Close” Because of Donald Trump

Even the uber-rich aren’t immune to the toll that political party lines can take on relationships: John Legend has admitted that his friendship with his formerly-frequent collaborator, Kanye West, dwindled largely due to the latter’s support of Donald Trump. The “All of Me” singer spoke about the fallout on a new episode of The Axe Files podcast: “[Kanye and I] aren’t friends as much as we used to be,” Legend told host David Axelrod. “I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office, his supporting Trump, I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly.” Kanye and Legend go pretty far back: The former was one of the producers on Legend’s 2004 debut album Get Lifted, and even released the record on his own GOOD Music label.
