Nation of Language on Finding Their Momentum Over the Pandemic: “It Feels Like Winning the Lottery”

Several years ago, Ian Devaney found his NYC musical project at a standstill. “At one point, it was like half the band suddenly and separately moved to Los Angeles,” he says. “I was like, ‘Oh, I guess this has run its course, because everyone’s gone.’” Luckily, Devaney found, well, a way forward (pun intended). In addition to his longtime collaborator and bassist Michael Sue-Poi, Devaney’s wife Aiden Noell joined the band on synths, and Nation of Language was born. It was not without hardship — after releasing their debut album Introduction, Presence in early 2020, the pandemic set in and left the band without any shows to play: “We always felt like the live show was the thing that would really kind of capture people’s attention and imagination… how would anyone ever find this r...

ABBA Shares First Album In 40 Years, ‘Voyage’: Stream It Now

When Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad went their separate ways in the early ‘80s, only the most determined of fans held out hope for new music. That moment would come to pass in September, when ABBA dropped the two-pack of “Don’t Shut Me Down,” and “I Still Have Faith In You,” the first of which cracked the U.K. Top 10 (debuting at No. 9). Last month, the foursome released a third fresh tune, “Just A Notion,” a classic ABBA track that was penned during their heyday in the late ‘70s. All three of those numbers appear on Voyage, the followup to The Visitors, from November 1981. ABBA will support their new works with a virtual residency in 2022. ABBA Voyage will feature the Super Swedes as digital versions of their younger selves, performing ...

You’ll see her later, congratulations and thank you!” The fan ended up posting a video of the moment from her perspective, while captioning it with a thank-you message for Styles. “A moment that will actually be with me forever,” she wrote. “Thank you for creating a safe place for me. Britney Spears Blames Mother for Conservatorship in Since-Deleted Instagram Post: “She Ruined My Life”

As the #FreeBritney movement came to a head earlier this year, Britney Spears didn’t shy away from voicing her frustrations at anyone who didn’t stand up for her in her conservatorship — particularly her own flesh and blood. Back in July, the pop star publicly lashed out at her sister, Jamie Lynn, and her father, Jamie, and she’s now doubled down on those claims by blaming her mother, Lynne Spears, for the conservatorship that allowed Jamie to control nearly every aspect of Spears’ life for 13 years. “What people don’t know is that my mom is the one who gave him the idea,” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, according to BBC News. “I will never get those years back… she secretly ruined my life.” She continued, “You know exactly what you did. My dad is not smart enough to ever thin...

Rosalía Announces New Album Motomami, Teases First Single: Stream

Spanish pop star Rosalía has shared a 15-second song clip on Instagram that ends with the words, “New Album Motomami 2022.” At this point, it’s unclear if “Motomami” is also the name of a single, but she repeats it several times during the musical snippet. If the clip is any indication, whatever’s coming next is a marked departure from her 2018 album El Mal Querer, an experimental concept album inspired by flamenco and based on a 13th century Occitan novel. The Motomami preview includes thunderous bass and percussion, interspersed with short moments of silence in which Rosalía purrs, “Motomami, motomami, motomami!” At first blush, it sounds much closer to hyperpop than her twist on flamenco. In the video, which may be a sneak peek at a music video, she appears covered in mud, wea...
