The Weeknd Teases New Album with “The Dawn is Coming” Video: Watch

The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye has shared a two-minute preview of his new album The Dawn. Entitled “The Dawn Is Coming,” the teaser clip includes an animated visual. Check it out below. In a new interview with GQ, The Weeknd described The Dawn as “the album I’ve always wanted to make.” GQ writer Mark Anthony Green further described The Weeknd’s new music as “packed with party records. Like real-deal, illuminated-white-tiles-on-the-floor party records. Quincy Jones meets Giorgio Moroder meets the best-night-of-your-fucking-life party records. Not anachronistic disco stuff. (Not ‘cosplay,’ as Abel put it.) That sort of retro thing is having a moment right now in pop music, but these records are new. Sweaty. Hard. Drenched-suit, grinding-on-the-girl/boy-of-your-dreams party records.” Advertisement...

Little Mix Make U.K. Chart History

Little Mix are well ahead of the next-closest competitor in chart history, Girls Aloud, who’ve notched 61 weeks across their 21 Top 10 singles, the OCC reports. Next up, The Supremes (59 weeks), Sugababes (57 weeks), and Spice Girls (50 weeks), respectively. The chart feat caps a headline-grabbing twelve months which has included a lineup change, their history-making Brit Award, and the unveiling of a waxwork at Madame Tussauds. The trio of Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwal got their break on in 2011 by becoming the first group to win the U.K. version of The X Factor. Co-founding member Jesy Nelson left the act in December 2020 citing mental health struggles. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Plus: EST Gee’s “Bigger Than Life or Death” vaults into top 10 in second chart week. A little over a year after The Kid LAROI’s F**k Love album was released, it surges from No. 26 to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for its first week atop the list, following multiple reissues that added additional tracks to the project. Kris Wu Detained by Chinese Police on Suspicion of Rape

Wu has been “criminally detained” on suspicion of rape “in response to relevant information reported on the internet” including that he “repeatedly lured young women to have sexual relations,” the police statement said. It gave no other details. The pop star had previously denied the accusations. “There was no ‘groupie sex’! There was no ‘underage’!” Wu wrote last month on his social media account. “If there were this kind of thing, please everyone relax, I would put myself in jail!” The news was trending as the no. 1 most searched topic on Weibo on Saturday night, and some users online started commenting on Wu’s social media account, telling him to “Get out of China!” Wu is a Canadian citizen, according to the police statement. The official paper of the Communist Party, the People’s Daily...

Duh — Billie Eilish Is the Modern Pop Star With the Biggest Vocabulary

Not only is Billie Eilish one of the most popular songwriters out there today, she might be one of the most logophilic, too. According to a recent study by the experts at WordTips, the 19-year-old pop iconoclast has the biggest vocabulary — in her music, at least — of any contemporary pop artist. Apparently, Eilish’s songs use, on average, 169 unique words out of 1,000. By contrast, Trey Songz and Carly Rae Jepsen are listed at the bottom of the artists studied, with 66 and 69 unique words per 1,000, respectively. When compared with musical legends, Eilish’s word diversity puts her ahead of all-time greats like Hank Williams and Bonnie Raitt, and not far behind the likes of Jim Morrison, Björk, and the list’s top artist, Patti Smith. Some other wordy modern pop stars who made the list incl...

Michael Jackson Estate Eyes Revival After Court Victories

“I was always optimistic,” John Branca, the entertainment attorney who worked with Jackson through many of his biggest triumphs and now serves as co-executor of his estate, told The Associated Press in an interview at his Beverly Hills home. “Michael inspired the planet and his music still does. There was never any doubt about that.” The optimism was warranted. A succession of court decisions came. One accusers’ lawsuit was dismissed in October. The other was tossed out in April. In May, a ruling in the tax case slashed the bill dramatically. The estate suddenly stands nearly clear of a dozen years of disputes. That means Branca expects that in the next 18 months it can finally be taken out of probate court and turned into a trust for Jackson’s three children, who are all now adults. And t...

Billie Eilish Is Happier Than Ever: How the Brutally Honest, Introspective Album Proves She’s Here to Stay

The thing about comets is that they were initially perceived as disturbances to our earth’s atmosphere; an anomaly, an intrusion. It wasn’t until Edmond Halley predicted the trajectory of a comet, accurately calculating its return, that people started to accept comets as something out of our reach, circling beyond the moon. Halley’s Comet was immortalized. The halfway mark of Billie Eilish’s sophomore album, Happier Than Ever, is a track called “Halley’s Comet.” It’s melancholy and yearning, but it acts as an appropriate connector between the first and second halves of the album — as well as the gap between her first album (the lauded, Grammy history-making When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?) and her latest effort. With this collection, she proves that she was not just a shot in the ...

‘Ronan’ Finds a Home on Taylor Swift’s Re-Recorded ‘Red’ Album

The song’s verses remember those “best four years” — little Ronan’s bare feet, his laugh, his blue eyes, his dancing before bedtime, his race cars and plastic dinosaurs on the kitchen floor — and the unimaginable: “Flowers pile up in the worst way, no one knows what to say/ About a beautiful boy who died.” Ronan died from neuroblastoma in 2011. It was a one-off record, available only on iTunes at the time, and Swift mostly made it through an (understandably emotional) televised performance of it for 2012’s Stand Up to Cancer telethon, with Ronan’s sweet face behind her on the stage. Swift recently emailed Maya Thompson to ask her how she would feel about their song finding a home on the updated version of Red, which she previously...

Miley Cyrus Calls Lollapalooza ‘Light at the End Of the Tunnel’: 5 Best Moments From Her Set

Opening night headliner Miley Cyrus perhaps said it best when she referenced a lyric from “Malibu” — “Hoping I just stay the same and nothing will change” — after performing the track. “The reason why that wish is outlandish and ridiculous is because everything will change — it’s inevitable,” she told the densely packed crowd at the south end of Grant Park. “And I think it was a very humbling experience for all of us to be humanized together and experience the last year and a half, where we were all experiencing the pain of being disconnected, and I think we remembered the value of having one another in our lives. And I think the masks reminded us how much a stranger’s smile could really mean to us, because sometimes, we take that s— for granted.” The star continued to sh...
