With the Premier League season kicking off on Friday evening, there are so many narratives to consider, with last season’s title front-runners having further bolstered their squads, while the race for Champions League football is seemingly impossible to call. The annual BBC Premier League pundit predictions have been released, and it is safe to say the list is in stark contrast to last season. Following their fourth-placed finish in the 2020-21 season, all 20 participating experts wrote off Liverpool’s chances of winning the league. Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has joined La Liga side Sevilla on a season-long loan who will also cover the player’s wages. Telles’ departure comes after United signed Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia, with new boss Erik ten Hag keen to use Malacia as a back-up to Luke Shaw instead. The Brazilian joined the Red Devils in late 2020, and went on to make 50 appearances for the club including four in the Champions League where he scored a stunning volley against Villarreal in the group stages. West Ham Agree Deal To Sign Highly Rated Lille Midfielder Amadou Onana
West Ham United have agreed a fee of £33.5m (40m euros) plus add ons to sign Amadou Onana from French side Lille. David Moyes has been looking to bolster his squad ahead of their second consecutive season playing European football. They’ll be facing either Viborg of Denmark or B36 Tórshavn of the Faroe Islands in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round. Onana should be a Hammers player by the time their Europe campaign gets underway, where he’ll join the likes of fellow former Ligue 1 players in Nayef Aguerd (Rennes) and Alphonse Areola (PSG). Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire headline the latest results of a study completed by Ofcom on the most-abused footballers on social media. Ofcom teamed up with The Alan Turing Institute and analysed over two million tweets directed at Premier League footballers through the first five months of the 2021/22 season. Advanced technology was used to determine which tweets were indeed abusive and it found that 3.5% of posts directed at footballers in England’s top flight fit that bill.
