Watch Lorde Debut Cover of Bananarama’s ‘Cruel Summer’ at Primavera Sound
Lorde has been sprinkling covers into the sets of her Solar Power tour, and kept the tradition going at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound festival Saturday night by debuting a cover of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer.” The pop star’s rendition of the 1983 hit was pretty true to the original, with the addition of some pretty sweet dance moves. This cover is one of many Lorde has treated fans to in the past few months, including “Run Away With Me” by Carly Rae Jepsen, “The End Has No End” by the Strokes and “HENTAI” by Rosalía. After a member of The Strokes tested positive for COVID-19, the band was forced to postpone its appearance at Primavera Sound this weekend. To help fill the void, Tame Impala covered “Last Nite” during their own headlining set on Friday night. Watch fan-captured footage below. The European festival Primavera Sound is finally debuting in the United States next September in Los Angeles. After two years since the initial announcement of the festival hitting the States, but canceled and rescheduled due to the pandemic, Primavera is set to take place the weekend of September 16-18 at the L.A. Primavera Sound Coming to Los Angeles in 2022
Los Angeles is a city for showing up fashionably late, and Primavera Sound is nothing if not fashionable. The beloved Barcelona, Spain festival had hoped to debut an LA counterpart in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to cancel last May. After a brief flirtation with 2021, festival organizers have now settled on September 16th through the 18th of 2022. The good news is that the additional year’s wait comes with an extra date, as the two-day festival expands to a three-day weekend. Primavera Sound LA will take place at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, which has a capacity of about 25,000 people.
