Lil Uzi Vert Set to Become “First Human to Legally Own a Planet”

Lil Uzi Vert is preparing to buy a planet. Yes, you read that correctly. Just one day after we’ve started collectively recovering from the billionaire space race, the rapper announced his pending extraterrestrial purchase on social media. The interplanetary tea was actually spilled first by Grimes, who retweeted an artist’s rendering of the planet in question — WASP-127 b. “This is WASP-127b, a gas giant exoplanet 1.4x larger than Jupiter orbiting a yellow dwarf star (like ours)!” the original space-centric account tweeted, leading Grimes to reply, “Apparently @LILUZIVERT owns this planet – just a heads up.” The Eternal Atake rapper quickly responded, confirming Grimes’ assertion while noting she had actually beaten him to the punch. “I tried 2 surprise everyone…still working on it,” he wr...

Kanye West Confirms Release of New Album Donda in Beats By Dre Commercial

Kanye West confirmed the impending release of his new album, Donda, in a Beats by Dre commercial aired during Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The album, Kanye’s 10th solo LP to date, will arrive this Friday, July 23rd. The accompanying ad features American track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who recently became infamous after she was banned from Olympic competition after testing positive for marijuana use. While it’s great to see Richardson getting paid after such a ridiculously outdated rebuff, the exciting part of the commercial is obviously the new Kanye music that soundtracks it. Specifically, the ad features a song called “No Child Left Behind,” which marks our first known preview of Donda. Watch the ad below. The tease comes days after Kanye held a surprise listening party in La...

Kanye West and Tyler, the Creator Spotted in the Studio, Possibly Working Together on Donda

Are Kanye West and Tyler, the Creator collaborating on the former’s long-awaited album Donda? That’s what some fans think after the pair were caught working together in the studio over the weekend. The rumors caught fire after the rapper Consequence posted a video of the two rappers seemingly listening to a beat on West’s computer. While the Yeezus rapper’s face is obscured by a hooded mask in the sound-free clip, Tyler flashes a huge smile while looking over his shoulder. Fans also took note of the whiteboard behind them with the word “Donda” written above what appears to be a potential tracklist for the LP. Named after West’s late mother, who passed away in November 2007 of heart disease following a cosmetic surgery procedure, the album was originally intended to be released on July 24th...

Vince Staples’ Self-Titled Album Is a Worthy Homecoming: Review

Vince Staples is home again — and while that home of Long Beach, California might look the same to him in a lot of ways, there’s no denying that the rapper is the one who’s changed. Vince Staples, the ten-track self-titled LP, is the artist’s fourth studio album and feels like more of an evolution than a departure from his earlier work. Remarkably slight at just over 20 minutes, Vince Staples swims in a world separate from 2017’s stylish, avant-garde Big Fish Theory or 2018’s bigger, feature-heavy FM!. Instead, the album is a bit of a slow burn, simmering and sitting in a lower, smoother groove than much of Staples’ discography to date. (Kenny Beats produced the entire album.) The result is incredibly cohesive, though, and if Staples was interested in telling his own story in his own way, ...

Post Malone Drops New Single “Motley Crew”: Stream

Just about this time last year, Post Malone hopped on a Tyla Yaweh track called “Tommy Lee” that happened to feature the actual Tommy Lee on drums. It’s clear Posty has a deep love for Lee’s band Mötley Crüe, as he’s now returned with a new single called “Motley Crew”. (See what he did there?) The song is Post Malone’s first solo release since dropping Hollywood’s Bleeding back in 2019. “I’m with the fast and furious/ We in the club, tearing it/ I got the commas, period,” he raps on the fresh track. “Covered in ice, Siberia/ I’m at the top of the pyramid/ Bitch I’m a star, I’m Sirius.” While the icy cut may be an individual effort, the accompanying music video finds him hanging out with — well, what can we say, it’s a motley crew. Set at a NASCAR racetrack which Posty spends some time turn...

With a scratchy whisper she sings, “I just might do it again/ I’mma speak it to you quiet like the Ying Yang Twins.” The shout out got the Atlanta duo’s attention, and now they’re doing their own whispering on the new “Body Move (Remix)”. Kaine and D-Roc join the 22-year-old Fae to put their distinctive Southern flare on the cut. MF Doom Posthumously Honored with Street in Long Beach, New York

Eight months after his untimely passing, MF Doom is getting a street named after him in his hometown of Long Beach, New York. According to HipHopDX, a petition to name one block of East Hudson Street between Riverside Boulevard and Long Beach Road was organized by Dr. Patrick C. Graham — a former classmate who attended Long Beach High School with the late rapper — on behalf of a larger collective calling themselves the KMD-MF DOOM Way Committee. “I had several community members contact me to see if I could get engaged with it,” Dr. Graham told the outlet, adding, “I used to run the Martin Luther King Center there, so I still have a close connection to the community. I was born and raised there, went to high school with Dumile. So I said give me a minute and I’ll craft a letter to the City ...
