Miley Cyrus and Stevie Nicks Team Up on “Edge of Midnight”: Stream

Miley Cyrus’ new single “Midnight Sky” is built around a sample of Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen”. Now, Cyrus has dropped a remix of the song featuring none other than Nicks herself. Take a listen to the appropriately titled “Edge of Midnight” below. In an interview around the time of “Midnight Sky”‘s release, Cyrus recalled how she reached out to Nicks to get her blessing. “I sent her the song and I said, ‘I have an alternate melody, if you don’t want me to kind of like pay tribute to you and your greatness and how much you’ve inspired me.’ And she said, ‘You can borrow from me anytime.’” “Midnight Sky” marks the first single from Cyrus’ upcoming album, Plastic Hearts. Alongside 13 original tracks, the album contains covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and The Cranberries’ “Zomb...

The Weeknd Links Up With Maluma For “Hawái” Remix: Stream

The Weeknd has teamed up with Maluma for a remix of the reggaeton icon’s hit song “Hawái”. On it, the After Hours artist sings in both Spanish and English. The two singers began teasing the collaboration on Instagram on Wednesday, and now the track has arrived less than 24 hours later. It begins with The Weeknd singing an altered version of the intro verse in English and before suddenly switching to Spanish for the hook. The Colombian pop star then comes in and handles the rest of the verses while The Weeknd joins him on the refrain. Despite the fact that they both play different styles of music, the two have an incredible chemistry and The Weeknd sounds particularly comfortable singing on a reggaeton beat. The song comes paired with a flashy music video that suits both of their ...

Zack de la Rocha’s Remix of OutKast’s “B.O.B.” Receives First-Ever Commercial Release: Stream

OutKast plan to mark the 20th anniversary of their landmark album Stankonia with an expanded digital reissue due out on October 30th. Undoubtedly, the most noteworthy recording found on the tracklist is a remix of “B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)” from Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de La Rocha. Though de la Rocha’s remix had a heavy presence on rock radio in the early 2000s, the track never received a proper commercial release, nor has it been available on digital streaming platforms. That is, until today. To tease the forthcoming Stankonia reissue, OutKast have finally released de la Rocha’s “B.O.B.” remix to the masses. Take a listen below (via Rolling Stone). “Zack added an extra layer of grunge to a masterpiece,” OutKast’s Big Boi said of the remix in a statement. And...

Shura Remixes Becca Mancari’s “Lonely Boy”: Stream

Back in June, Becca Mancari released her excellent debut album, The Greatest Part, via Captured Tracks. Today, our former Artist of the Month has shared a remixed version of the single “Lonely Boy” by none other than our former CoSign, UK electro-pop artist Shura, Although The Greatest Part was produced by Paramore’s Zac Farro, Mancari’s sound has more roots in indie music than pop or pop-punk. The original version of “Lonely Boy” is a catchy indie rock track with a bumpy bassline and a dreamy hook, but there’s a spaciness to the song that translates really well in Shura’s dance-pop context. In the remix, the main hook of the tune remains intact, but Shura adds some clubby flair and an epic drum breakdown that transitions into a dazzling synth melody. In their respective press st...

The Weeknd Officially Releases Saxy New “In Your Eyes” Remix Featuring Kenny G: Stream

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” may be one of the best songs of 2020, but it’s the After Hours single “In Your Eyes” that’s extra sax-y — quite literally. Today, the R&B superstar has shared a new remix of “In Your Eyes” featuring the one and only saxophone legend Kenny G. The unlikely collaborators first debuted a version of this rework at last month’s TIME 100 event, where The Weeknd was honored as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020. While that live rendition saw Kenny G lend a silky instrumental outro, this official studio release of the remix features two additional solos from the jazz musician and Kanye West associate. We never would have guessed we’d be mentioning The Weeknd and Kenny G in the same breath — they each offer their own very different vision of “sexy mu...

Big Boi and Sleepy Brown Call on Killer Mike for Remix of “We the Ones”: Stream

Three years ago, Big Boi and frequent collaborator Sleepy Brown released the track “We the Ones” on the self-titled EP from Organized Noize. Featuring CeeLo Green and Big Rube, the song served as an uplifting rally to “stand up to oppression.” Three years later, the theme is more relevant than ever, so Big Boi and Sleepy have called on Killer Mike for a new remix of “We the Ones”. Much of the original cut remains intact, including CeeLo’s hook and the spoken word sections from Big Rube. Killer Mike comes in for the third verse, telling stories of individuals taking different paths towards betterment, especially when it comes to religion. He talks about “a cousin named Robert”, a “robber” who found “conviction through religion” while serving time: “Reformed, Robert told me, ‘We should only ...

DaBaby Joins Dua Lipa on New Version of “Levitating”: Stream

Back in August, Dua Lipa teamed with Madonna and Missy Elliott for a remix of her Future Nostalgia track “Levitating”. Now she’s back with another new version of the song, this one featuring rapper DaBaby. Unlike the Madge and Missy take, which vastly altered the song’s sound for the Club Future Nostalgia remix album, this rendition of “Levitating” isn’t really a remix. The electro-disco vibes, equal parts bubbly and sexy, are very much intact. The only real difference is the appearance of DaBaby, who drops in for a verse in which he raps, “I had to lace my shoes for all the blessings I was chasin’/ If I ever slip, I’ll fall into a better situation/ So catch up, go put some cheese on it/ Get out and get your bread up.” The Charlotte MC also appears in the single’s music video, which was ma...

Blood Orange Remixes Tame Impala’s “Borderline”: Stream

Earlier this week, a pared-down Tame Impala lineup performed a club-ified version of “Borderline” on Fallon. Today, we get yet another iteration of the single off The Slow Rush, as Blood Orange has shared a “remix” of the song that’s more like an entire reimagining. Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes has slowed everything down, creating a mellow oscillation between a warm, tropical vibe and a hypnotic, psychedelic spiral. More than a true remix, this rendition of “Borderline” stretches over seven minutes long and features completely new instrumentation. Hynes adds his own original compositions, while additional drumming comes from Aaron Maine of Porches. Take a listen to Blood Orange’s “Borderline” remix below. Editors’ Picks This is but the latest remix from Tame Impala this year. There was t...

Rosalía and J Balvin Join Sech on Empowering New “Relación” Remix: Stream

Following their “Con Altura” collaboration last year, Rosalía and J Balvin have reunited. The Flamenco pop artist and Colombian reggaeton star appear together on the new “Relación” remix from Sech, alongside Daddy Yankee and Farruko. Sech’s original version was about a woman emerging from an unhealthy relationship, ready to heal and love herself. “Everything changed now, it’s her turn/ A party and a bottle/ Thanks to the abuse, she got more beautiful/ Now you want her but she doesn’t want you,” reads the chorus. Today’s reworking continues that theme, with Rosalía leading the way and proudly singing, “You thought you had me but you never did because I’m la Rosalia.” In a statement to Billboard, the Latin Grammy winner said it was important for her to be part of “Relación” and its empo...

Thundercat Remixes “Dragonball Durag” with Smino and Guapdad 4000: Stream

Guapdad 4000 (photo by Paul Middleton), Thundercat (photo by Parker Day), Smino (photo by Heather Kaplan) Thundercat has shared a new remix of “Dragonball Durag” featuring underground king Smino and rising star Guapdad 4000. The song was already a highlight of It Is What It Is, one of our favorite albums of the year so far. The remix features more to love, with new verses to expand on the song’s effervescent charm. Smino is already well known in these parts, and for “Dragonball Durag” he busts out a funky flow that combines smooth syllables with staccato bursts of emphasis, as well as plenty of punchlines. As for Guapdad 4000, he’s spent the last year like a bomb in space, quietly blowing up. Along with Smino, he’s in the supergroup Zoink Gang with JID and Buddy, and his 2019 deb...
