Mark Ronson geeks out about the magic of music creation in the first trailer for his upcoming Apple TV+ series Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson, in which he gets super nerdy with the likes of Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Beastie Boys Ad-Rock and Mike D, Charli XCX, Josh Homme, Denzel Curry, Angel Olsen and Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker. “I’ve always been obsessed with how things sound. It’s the difference between a great song and an iconic recording,” Ronson says in the two-minute trailer. The six-part docuseries examines “sound creation and the revolutionary technology that has shaped music as we know it,” according to a statement about the show from Oscar-winning producer Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom). The series will make its debut on July 30, with each episode ...
It’s unclear what type of cancer Hoppus is battling, though the 49-year-old rocker is staying upbeat. “Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future,” he added. “Love to you all.” The outpouring of support should help him stay on track. Bandmate Travis Barker told E! News, “Mark is my brother and I love and support him. I will be with him every step of the way on stage and off and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.” Earlier in the day, Hoppus triggered alarm bells with a post, which he swiftly deleted, of himself receiving chemotherapy in a hospital room. “Yes hello. One cancer treatment, please,” reads the caption. Hoppus’ name trended as worried supporters turned to social media to rally behind the ailing music...
Kevin Parker is putting on his lab coat and going on tour. The Tame Impala mastermind has rescheduled “Phase I Rushium® Trials” — aka, the band’s North American tour that is finally going down in 2021. The “trials,” as indicated by the press release, will begin this September at Bonnaroo. The news was teased by a clip Tame Impala shared yesterday, showing Parker touring a medical lab. After releasing their last album, The Slow Rush, in February 2020, Parker and company were forced to cancel the tour behind it due to the coronavirus. They were supposed to hit North America this summer, but those dates got postponed, too. Now, a year and a half after The Slow Rush’s release, we’ll finally have the chance to hear it in person — er, we mean, participate in Phase I trials of Rushium®. Tickets f...
Nothing else matters except for Miley Cyrus‘ new Metallica cover — and she didn’t do the honors alone for this new tribute. The Plastic Hearts star teased in an interview earlier this year that she enlisted Sir Elton John, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and frequent collaborator Watt for a cover of the rock band’s 1991 hit “Nothing Else Matters” for an upcoming Metallica covers album. On Tuesday (June 22), Cyrus revealed the other “all-star” in her band: Metallica’s very own bassist Robert Trujillo. “I mean, having Elton John and Metallica and me … I love when ingredients don’t quite fit,” she said during a Capital FM interview in January ab...
Dylan completists have seen much of this material in other forms but for the less indoctrinated, there are nuggets to be mined, such as from Paris in 1966 when Dylan – in his skinny-suit glory – faces a hostile audience that feels he’s betrayed his folk roots by going electric, spending an inordinate amount of time tuning his guitar during the acoustic half of the show. “You see, my electric guitar never goes out of tune,” he says to the booing throng, dripping with sarcasm. Also being released simultaneously in newly packaged form are four concert films: Bob Dylan: Trouble No More – A Musical Film; The Other Side Of The Mirror: Bob Dylan Live At The Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965, Bob Dylan: The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration, and Bob Dylan: ...
Tuesday, June 22nd is New York City’s mayoral primary, and The Strokes are hoping to jam their way to a better world by teasing the new song “Starting Again” in an ad for progressive candidate Maya Wiley. Throughout the election, the New York rockers have been wildin’ out for Wiley, performing their first-ever unplugged set as a fundraiser on her behalf and following that with NYC’s first full-capacity indoor concert alongside fellow Wiley backers John Mulaney, Blood Orange, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Despite these famous fans, Wiley’s candidacy has struggled to gain traction, with recent polling putting her in fourth place behind Eric Adams, Andrew Yang, and Kathryn Garcia. However, NYC’s use of ranked-choice voting means that if she is the second- or third-choice candidate f...
He thanked fans for their “support, patience & understanding” and told his bandmates Jonathan Davis, James “Munky” Shaffer, Ray Luzier and Brian “Head” Welch: “I love you and I don’t want to bring any tension or bad vibes to the circle.” Arvizu is a founding member of the California nu-metal band, appearing on every album starting with Korn’s 1993 debut. Korn have tour dates lined up starting July 16 in Grand Rapids, Michigan — including a stint with Staind through the fall — as well as European festival appearances scheduled as far out as summer 2022. There’s no word yet on who will replace Fieldy on bass for the tour dates. Read Fieldy’s full message below: You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are l...

Music lovers had some great new releases to dive into this week, including standouts from DaBaby, H.E.R., Tyler, The Creator, and more. Billboard wants to know which one tops your list! This week, Charlotte superstar DaBaby dropped “Ball If I Want To,” his second solo single of 2021 after “Masterpiece.” Clocking in just under two minutes, the raunchy new track is filled with not-so-thinly veiled sexual innuendo, and finds the rapper making his music video directorial debut with a rowdy high school-themed visual. On the heels of winning a Grammy Award for “I Can’t Breathe” and an Academy Award for “Fight For You,” H.E.R. releases her engrossing new album, Back of My Mind. The R&B star’s debut full-length spans 21 tracks and features appearances by Ty Dolla ...
Madison Square Garden tapped Foo Fighters to headline its first full-capacity concert since the beginning of the pandemic. Now, that soon-to-be legendary gig will be all the more special because the band has decided to dedicate it to Andy Pollard, their late stage manager. Pollard passed away early in the morning of June 18th. He served as Foo Fighters’ stage manager for a whopping 12 years, during which he helped bring countless tours to life and made sure each detail went safely to plan. According to Pollard’s Linkedin, he also managed acts like Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Arcade Fire, Tenacious D, and Kings of Leon over the past 20 years, in addition to helming the lighting crew for Arctic Monkeys, Bjork, Iggy Pop, and countless others. “We are shocked and devastated by this loss. We can’t i...
