Solinger’s death was confirmed in a statement posted on the band’s official social pages. “We are saddened to hear the news of our brother Johnny Solinger,” the message reads. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans. Godspeed Singo. Say hello to Scrappy for us.” With Skid Row, Solinger cut four albums, including 2003’s Thickskin and 2006’s Revolutions Per Minute, and he released a handful of solo albums in the noughts, including 2008’s Johnny Solinger. In 2014, Solinger revisited his country roots on Scrappy Smith, an album that pays tribute to his grandfather Willard Jesse “Scrappy” Smith who introduced the young rocker to many of the classic sounds in country music. “I was born in Russellville, Arkansas, which is right off of Crow Mountain,” Solin...
The core of Springsteen’s Broadway show remains the same: Part “Growin’ Up” as Jersey Shore Bildungsroman, part examination of his own rock ‘n’ roll myth, part meditation on mortality. Right at the start, Springsteen talks about coming from a Boardwalk town, “where everything is tinged with just a bit of fraud,” then admits that his knowledge of fast cars and factory work is largely invented. “It has to be believable,” he said last night. “Which is tricky, because I’m lying.” This is reliably hilarious, but also braver than it might seem: At a time when so much pop music seems to rely on identity and experience, Springsteen is claiming the purview of a novelist. For all that, though, Springsteen’s show is incredibly personal. It’s about growing up surrounded by family, near a church that m...
Bruce Springsteen took the stage at the New York’s St. James Theatre on Saturday night to kick off a new run of his Tony Award-winning production, Springsteen on Broadway. During the show, as Rolling Stone points out, Springsteen addressed his November 2020 DWI arrest, which was subsequently dismissed during a virtual court appearance earlier this year. “I didn’t wake up one morning, get on my motorcycle and say, ‘I think I’ll drive to jail,’” Springsteen joked. “And then I had to go to Zoom Court! My case was the United States of America vs. Bruce Springsteen. That’s always comfortable to hear, that the entire nation is aligned against you!” As previously reported, Springsteen was stopped by a park ranger at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey o...
But on Friday (June 25), with an airplane emoji, the Blink-182 drummer declared in a tweet, “I might fly again.” Last month, in an interview with Men’s Health magazine, Barker — who hasn’t been on a plane since the day of the crash in 2008 — said surviving the accident, and the long recovery that followed, inspired him to get clean. “People are always like, ‘Did you go to rehab?'” Barker, who had developed such a high opioid tolerance that he’d sometimes wake up during surgery, said. “And I [say], ‘No, I was in a plane crash.’ That was my rehab. Lose three of your friends and almost die? That was my wake-up call. If I wasn’t in a crash, I would have probably never quit.” “There’s a million things that could...
Marilyn Manson is set to turn himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department on a New Hampshire warrant for his arrest, stemming from an alleged assault in which the singer is accused of repeatedly spitting on a videographer during a concert in 2019. The incident is not related to the allegations of sexual assault brought against Manson by numerous women in recent months. According to the Boston Globe and Los Angeles Times, Manson has reached an agreement with the police department in Guilford, New Hampshire, to surrender to the LAPD at a prearranged date, at which time he will be booked and go through the bail process. He’ll then be ordered to appear at a New Hampshire court for arraignment, likely in August. The incident in question occurred at Manson’s August 18, 2019 concert at the Ba...
According to the report, Manson could be arraigned on the charges in New Hampshire’s Laconia District Court later this summer. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Manson’s attorney for comment. In February of this year, Evan Rachel Wood named Manson, whom she met when she was 18 and was once briefly engaged to, as her alleged abuser, calling him a “dangerous man.” In a statement posted to her Instagram account, the actress wrote, “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander or blackmail.” Four other women also came forward with abuse claims. At the time, Manson denied the allegations in a statement posted to his social media account. An investigat...
Last month, CHVRCHES released their latest single, “How Not to Drown” featuring Robert Smith, and now they’ve shared a special new version of the track remixed by The Cure frontman himself. The remix draws the single out, transforming singer Lauren Mayberry’s vocals into an echoing, atmospheric refrain before Smith once again takes over for the second verse. “I’m writing a chapter on what to do after they dig you up/ On what to do after you grew to hate what you used to love/ That was the first time I knew/ They were out for blood/ And they would have your guts,” he sings before harmonizing over Mayberry on the chorus. In an all-caps statement, Smith said he wanted this remix to “FOCUS ON SOME OF THE SUNKEN ELEMENTS IN THE BRILLIANT ALBUM MIX, TO CONJURE UP AN IRRESISTIBLE MIDNIGHT SEA, WI...
Foo Fighters have released a brand new version of their latest single “Making A Fire”, reimagined by Mark Ronson. On the remix, the superproducer enlists members of numerous bands — including Antibalas, the Budos Band, the Dap-Kings, El Michels Affair, La Buya, Menahan Street Band, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Tuatara to provide instrumentation for frontman Dave Grohl’s wailing vocal performance. “Are you afraid of the dark?/ I know a place we can start/ But if this is our last time/ Make up your mind/ I’ve waited a lifetime to live/ It’s time to ignite/ I’m making a fire,” he intones over backing vocals by a quartet that includes his 15-year-old daughter Violet Grohl. This week, a murderer’s row of stars cover Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.” This year marks three decades since Metallica released their self-titled album, remembered as The Black Album, and Miley Cyrus, the reigning queen of rock covers and collabs, isn’t letting the anniversary pass without some acknowledgement. With the help of quite a few impressive friends — WATT, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo, and Chad Smith — Miley has honored the original track with a sweeping arrangement that shows off her characteristically killer vocals...
Attention Twihards! It’s time to dig up your “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” shirts, because Paramore’s songs from the iconic 2008 Twilight soundtrack just got more accessible. That’s right, for the first time ever, US Spotify users can finally stream “Decode” and “I Caught Myself” on repeat to your heart’s content. No word on Robert Pattinson’s version of “Never Think”, though… While “Decode” was originally released in October 2008 as the lead single off Twilight: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, the hard rock ballad and its sister track were previously restricted from the most popular non-video music streaming service in America. This was most likely due to copyright issues involved in streaming rights for the soundtrack. (The album was released via Atlantic Records, but Paramore w...
Mark Ronson geeks out about the magic of music creation in the first trailer for his upcoming Apple TV+ series Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson, in which he gets super nerdy with the likes of Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Beastie Boys Ad-Rock and Mike D, Charli XCX, Josh Homme, Denzel Curry, Angel Olsen and Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker. “I’ve always been obsessed with how things sound. It’s the difference between a great song and an iconic recording,” Ronson says in the two-minute trailer. The six-part docuseries examines “sound creation and the revolutionary technology that has shaped music as we know it,” according to a statement about the show from Oscar-winning producer Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom). The series will make its debut on July 30, with each episode ...
It’s unclear what type of cancer Hoppus is battling, though the 49-year-old rocker is staying upbeat. “Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future,” he added. “Love to you all.” The outpouring of support should help him stay on track. Bandmate Travis Barker told E! News, “Mark is my brother and I love and support him. I will be with him every step of the way on stage and off and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.” Earlier in the day, Hoppus triggered alarm bells with a post, which he swiftly deleted, of himself receiving chemotherapy in a hospital room. “Yes hello. One cancer treatment, please,” reads the caption. Hoppus’ name trended as worried supporters turned to social media to rally behind the ailing music...
