Ricky Schroder and a group of anti-vaxxers turned up at Foo Fighters’ concert on Tuesday night to protest the band’s support of vaccination against the coronavirus. Held at The Canyon in Agoura Hills, California, the rockers’ decision to require that attendees show proof of vaccination at the intimate show didn’t sit well with the anti-vaxx crowd, who picketed outside the venue holding signs with messages like “Modern Segregation” and “Stop the Hate in the Vaccine Debate.” Schroder was photographed at the protest sporting a baseball cap emblazoned with the “Thin Blue Line” symbol, surrounded by fellow protestors wearing “Just Say No [to the] Vaccine Passport” t-shirts and carrying signs reading “COVID Vaccine Makers are Exempt from Liability” among other inflammatory statements. Foo Fighters performed a rousing cover of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” at their recent concert at The Canyon in Agoura Hills, California. It was the band’s first show since the start of the pandemic. Drummer Taylor Hawkins traded places with frontman Dave Grohl for the number, taking on Freddie Mercury’s iconic lyrics while the former Nirvana member stepped behind the drum kit. “Somebody, ooh somebody/ Can anybody find me somebody to love?” Hawkins howled over his bandmates’ hard-charging instrumentation. Before kicking off the classic, the long-haired drummer reminded the enthusiastic crowd he’s actually performed lead vocals on a number of Foo Fighters’ tracks over the years, including “Cold Day in the Sun” (off 2005’s In Your Honor) and “Sunday Rain” (from 2017’s Concrete and Gold). Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google | Radio Public | RSS At some point or another in all of our lives, we’ve wondered how this song gets played on the radio and not that one. This week on The What Podcast, Brad and Barry talk to one of the guys who actually makes those kinds of decisions. Troy Hanson, head of rock programming at Cumulus Broadcasting, is our guest on the show that takes a deep dive festivals in particular, but music in general. The What Podcast originally launched in 2018 as a way for two Bonnaroo veterans to talk about the thing they love in life the most: Bonnaroo. Over time, the podcast has evolved to cover the rest of the North American festival landscape and touring industry as a whole. Related Video...
The Killers have joined forces with Bruce Springsteen to re-record their song “A Dustland Fairytale”. This new version, simply titled “Dustland”, was debuted by The Killers and Springsteen during a Wednesday morning appearance on The Today Show. The song is also available to stream on DSPs. This marks the first time The Killers and Springsteen have recorded together, which is surprising given just how indebted the band’s music is to The Boss’ (see: 2006’s Sam’s Town). As The Killers’ Brandon Flowers recounted in a statement posted to social media, the collaboration came about after Springsteen reached out to him via text. “I start getting some texts from a number I don’t have marked in my phone. ‘Watching Glastonbury. You guys have become one hellacious live band my brother! Love the gold ...
“Dustland,” said to be Springsteen’s favorite Killers track, was written in the middle of Flowers’ mom’s battle with cancer. “It was an attempt to better understand my dad, who is sometimes a mystery to me. To grieve for my mother,” writes Flowers on his socials. “To acknowledge their sacrifices and maybe even catch a glimpse of just how strong love needs to be to make it in this world. It was my therapy. It was cathartic.” Springsteen, we learn, reached out to Flowers via text in February 2020, with a glowing review of their band’s Glastonbury performance. The pandemic then shut down touring, but opened a window for the unlikely collaboration. The rest is recorded music history. Bruce, he continues, “has written a lot about people like my parents and found a whole lot of beaut...

With her previous release of the immaculate “Nervous Habits” still riding on a wave of success, GG Magree has returned to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records with another explosive single called “Loving You Kills Me.” The new single pulls influence from multiple genres, melding rock and trap to create another signature GG Magreetune. The scene opens up with a nostalgic guitar riff as Magree’s heartfelt vocals radiate through the mix, telling the story of loving someone so much to the point it hurts. As the song progresses, a heavy bass drop rattles in, electrifying the arrangement and bringing with it a darker, grittier edge to an otherwise romantic narrative. Angel Du$t have surprise released their new EP, Bigger House, the follow up to last year’s Lil House EP. They also unveiled the music video to the track “Love Is the Greatest Thing” and fall tour dates with Mannequin Pussy. The song’s title suggests a ballad, and sure enough, it’s Angel Du$t unplugged, for the most part, with lush acoustic guitars and singer Justice Tripp’s clean vocal delivery. It’s surprisingly tender from the band known for mosh-ready melodic hardcore, but also displays their versatility as musicians. The track features subtle turntablism from LA producer Shlohmo. The Bigger House EP was produced by Rob Schnapf, known for his work with Elliott Smith and Kurt Vile. Perhaps the producer unleashed Angel Du$t’s inner singer-songwriter, as the lead single implies.
