Hayley Williams took to social media on Saturday (Aug. 8) to share her latest quarantine cover, an acoustic take on Radiohead’s exquisite bummer ballad “Fake Plastic Trees.” “Green plastic watering can/ For a fake Chinese rubber plant/ In the fake plastic earth/ That she bought from a rubber man/ In a town full of rubber plans/ To get rid of itself,” she croons over simple acoustic guitar after a couple of false starts. “The last of the self-serenades…for a while, anyway,” the Paramore frontwoman wrote alongside the cover, which she posted as a voice memo. “The top requested song throughout my brief career in self-serenadism has been a @radiohead song. {“nid”:”9428406″,”type”:”post”,”...

Eight months into 2020, blink-182 is singing what we’re all thinking: ‘F— quarantine.” The group’s latest single, “Quarantine,” is truly an angsty anthem of the times we’re living in amid the coronavirus pandemic. The new rock song’s chorus pays tribute to everyday tasks we had taken for granted or even found boring before we were locked in our homes to practice social distancing. “Quarantine, f— this disease / I’d rather be on Star Tours or stuck at the DMV / Quarantine, no, not for me / I thought that things were fucked up in 2019 / F— quarantine,” Mark Hoppus proclaims in the chorus. {“nid”:”9412096″,”type”:”post”,”title”:”Blink-182 Is Ce...

The Rolling Stones enlisted Emmy-nominated actor Paul Mescal from Hulu’s Normal People for their latest music video “Scarlet” out today (Aug. 6). Directing duo Us, comprised of Chris Barrett and Luke Taylor, filmed the clip while following social distance guidelines at London’s iconic Claridge’s hotel. A dapper Mescal drunkenly dances around his hotel room and lobby while recording an apology video to Scarlet, the titular love interest, and mouthing the lyrics of the legendary U.K. rockers’ previously unreleased track. The 24-year-old Irish actor received his first-ever Emmy nomination this year for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie for his role as Connell in the Hulu drama TV series Normal People. “Scarlet,” featuring instrumenta...
Former Machine Head/Crowbar drummer Tony Costanza has died at age 52. The news was confirmed by former Crisis bandmate guitarist Afzaal Deen, who paid tribute on Tuesday (Aug. 4) writing, “It is with a very heavy heart that I have to accept and inform everyone concerned that I lost my brother, band mate, home boy and family today. Tony Costanza was one of a kind. A man with a huge heart, love and loyalty for the ones close to him. I cannot relate to this reality of loss yet. I know he had a lot of admirers, and I was one of his biggest. He would have literally taken a bullet for me. Thats the kind of gangster brother he was. Tony died in his sleep this morning so I am sure he was at peace and in no pain.” At press time, no cause of death was available. Deen also posted a GoFund...

Founding Molly Hatchet guitarist Steve Holland has died, his longtime friend, guardian and conservator John Pappas confirmed to Billboard. He was 66 years old. No cause of death was given for the guitarist born in 1954, who appeared on the band’s first five albums, including 1979’s breakthrough Flirtin’ With Disaster. Holland left the band in 1984 and later formed a group called Gator Country, named after the second track on Hatchet’s 1978 self-titled debut album, which featured fellow former Hatchet members guitarist Duane Roland, drummer Bruce Crump, bassist Riff West and singer Jimmy Farrar. The Gator County FB page also had a tribute to Holland announcing the passing of the last original member of MH. “It Is With GREAT SADNESS That I Announce The PASSING ...
Stop! Jane’s Addiction’s has reunited … for a brief set, anyway. Sheryl Crow is making her demands for the presidency known ahead of the 2020 election by rerecording one of her 2012 B-sides, “Woman in the White House.” The Grammy award-winning singer completely transformed her light-hearted country tune into a hard rock anthem with a scorching guitar solo in the outro, re-emphasizing her suggestion-turned-demand for “a little female common sense down on Pennsylvania Avenue” and a different face after the last approximately 230 years of male Commanders-in-Chief. “When I first recorded this song 8 years ago, I was hopeful that we, as a nation, would seize the moment and put a Woman in the White House,” Crow wrote on Twitter yesterday (July 30). “That did not happen – but our movement of strength grows a...
Updates of Martika’s ‘Toy Soldiers’ and Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ also debut. Three remakes debut on Billboard‘s rock radio charts dated Aug. 1, joining a host of other updates of older material on various rock airplay rankings. Leading the way among debuting tracks is the late Chris Cornell‘s version of Guns N’ Roses‘ “Patience,” which bows at No. 16 on Mainstream Rock Songs and No. 36 on Alternative Airplay. Cornell appears on both charts posthumously for the first time, following his May 2017 death. He’d last hit Alternative Airplay with “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart,” which reached No. 18 in December 2015. On Mainstream Rock Songs, he had last charted in May-June 2016 with anoth...
