David Foster, Bryan Adams, Alanis Morissette & More Inducted Into Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame
The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF) honored David Foster, Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance, Alanis Morissette and francophone legend Daniel Lavoie Saturday night (Sept. 24) at a gala ceremony at Toronto’s Massey Hall that highlighted their incredible hit-stacked careers, influence and legacy. Hosted by platinum-selling Quebec singer-songwriter Marie-Mai, the three-and-a-half-hour show included tribute performances by such artists as Corey Hart, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Ryan Peake, Alessia Cara, JP Saxe, Charlotte Cardin, Jessie Reyez, Serena Ryder and Chicago’s Neil Donell, backed by a house band. Arctic Monkeys Announce UK Stadium Tour with The Hives
Arctic Monkeys have mapped out a 2023 UK stadium in support of their upcoming album, The Car. The month-long run of shows kicks off in Bristol on May 29th. The itinerary includes stops in cities like Manchester, Norwich, Southampton, and Glasgow. They’ll also play two nights each in their hometown of Sheffield and London. The Hives will provide support for the duration of the UK tour. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 30th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster and Seetickets. Smashing Pumpkins Perform “Beguiled” on Fallon: Watch
Smashing Pumpkins are set to release their new triple album, ATUM. In anticipation, the band appeared on The Tonight Show on Friday to perform lead single “Beguiled.” Watch the replay below. Billed as the sequel to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/Machine of God, ATUM (pronounced “autumn”) will be unveiled over the course of three acts released 11 weeks apart. Act 1 will arrive on November 15th, with Act 2 following on January 31st and Act 3 coming on April 21st. A box set containing all three acts plus 10 additional bonus tracks will also be released on April 21st. Roger Waters Cancels Poland Concerts After War Remarks
Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters has canceled concerts planned in Poland amid outrage over his stance on Russia’s war against Ukraine, Polish media reported Saturday (Sept. 24). An official with the Tauron Arena in Krakow, where Waters was scheduled to perform two concerts in April, said they would no longer take place. “Roger Waters’ manager decided to withdraw … without giving any reason,” Lukasz Pytko from Tauron Arena Krakow said Saturday in comments carried by Polish media outlets. The website for Waters’ This Is Not a Drill concert tour did not list the Krakow concerts previously scheduled for April 21-22. Queens of the Stone Age to Reissue Debut Album with Original Tracklist and Artwork
Queens of the Stone Age are reissuing their acclaimed self-titled debut as well as two other albums. The band’s 1998 self-titled LP will be back in print for the first time in a decade. Available on October 21st, the vinyl reissue will feature the album’s original tracklist and artwork by Frank Kozik. It’ll be pressed on both standard black and limited edition opaque orange vinyl. Additionally, a digital version of the reissue is available to stream beginning today (listen below). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ fabled 20-show run at San Francisco’s Fillmore in 1997 is the subject of a new deluxe box set coming on November 25th. Live at the Fillmore (1997) is being put out by Warner Records in collaboration with Petty’s estate and Mike Campbell. It marks the first Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers live album to be released in 13 years. Various configurations of Live at the Fillmore (1997) will be available, including a 3xLP version simulating one of the concerts and a comprehensive box set comprised of 58 songs and 14 humorous spoken word tracks. Artist Uses AI to Imagine What Dead Musicians Would Look Like Today
Have you ever wondered what members of the 27 Club and other dead celebrities would look like if they were still alive? Photographer and lawyer Alper Yesiltas has attempted to answer that question by using AI technology to create portraits of celebrities including Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Janis Joplin, Tupac, and Heath Ledger. Turns out, we’ve all been pronouncing Chad Kroeger’s last name wrong this entire time, he recently told Loudwire. This past weekend (September 16th-18th), Primavera Sound held its inaugural Los Angeles edition at L.A. State Historic Park. Featuring heavy-hitting headlining sets from Arctic Monkeys, Lorde, and Nine Inch Nails, the weekend proved to be a successful American translation of the iconic festival. Amazing sets didn’t stop at the headliners, though, as the festival’s deep lineup did not disappoint.
