The Killers complete their quickest trip to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart, as “Boy” rules the Sept. 10-dated survey. The song ascends to No. 1 in only its fourth week on the list. The band logged its previous fastest flight to the top with “Caution,” which led in its sixth week on the ranking in 2020. “Boy” wraps the fastest trip to No. 1 on Alternative Airplay in 2022 and the quickest since Twenty One Pilots‘ “Shy Away” needed just three frames in April-May 2021. The Killers now boast three Alternative Airplay No. 1s. Before “Boy,” “Caution” ended an almost 14-year wait after “When You Were Young” led in 2006. The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz Sues FBI to Turn Over Secret File on the Band

Micky Dolenz, the sole surviving member of The Monkees, is suing the FBI for failing to hand over the entirety of the agency’s file on the band, Rolling Stone reports. The backstory of this case dates all the way back to The Monkees’ 1967 inaugural tour, which an FBI informant attended: “During the concert, subliminal messages were depicted on the screen which, in the opinion of [informant’s name redacted], constituted ‘left wing intervention of a political nature,’” reads a document in the band’s FBI file that was made available to the public a little over a decade ago. “These messages and pictures were flashed of riots, in Berkley, anti-U.S. messages on the war in Vietnam, racial riots in Selma, Alabama, and similar messages which had unfavorable response[s] from the audience.” Dolenz fi...

Blues Rocker Marcus King on the Despair & Salvation of ‘Young Blood’: ‘I Didn’t Think I’d Be Around For Another Record’

When Marcus King finished recording Young Blood, it was vitally important to him that he leave the listener with a sense of hope. That wasn’t because he had conquered his own demons and wanted to share his positive outcome. It was just the opposite. The blues rocker was still so deep in his depression and substance abuse, he believed Young Blood, which came out Aug. 26, would be his last statement—musical or otherwise. “I really didn’t think I’d be around long enough to make another record,” King tells Billboard over Zoom. “I was pretty convinced I was going to drink and drug myself to death, or another means of not being around any longer. So I wanted there to be a sense of hope and give people a feeling that they can get through it, even though I felt it was too late for me.” E...

Muse’s Will of the People is Vague, Jumbled, and Unimaginative: Review

At the end of Muse‘s third studio album, 2003’s Absolution, is a powerful ballad that, to this day, is one of the band’s best ever creations: “Ruled By Secrecy.” The song, rooted in Matt Bellamy‘s dueling arpeggiated pianos, is a patient exploration of an individual’s lack power against an unknown societal force, a stirring call to those who “are working so hard/ but [they’re] never in charge,” and a nod of suspicion towards society’s manipulative leaders. “Ruled By Secrecy,” along with the other dramatic, apocalyptic themes of Absolution, marked a new thematic highway for the British trio, and it’s one that they’ve followed staunchly since the album’s release in 2003. Black Holes and Revelations came next with a greater emphasis on sci-fi, but still found the band using a s...
