Pearl Jam Enlist 18-Year-Old High School Senior on Drums for “Mind Your Manners”: Watch

With drummer Matt Cameron still sidelined by COVID, Pearl Jam tapped an 18-year-old high school senior to fill in behind the kit. Kai Neukermans backed Pearl Jam for their performance of “Mind Your Manners,” from 2013’s Lightning Bolt, during the band’s concert at Oakland Arena on Saturday (May 14th). As Neukermans replayed to the San Fransisco Chronicle, he initially offered his services to Pearl Jam by texting Eddie Vedder’s daughter, Olivia. (The two had met previously at her father’s Ohana Fest). Neukermans, who drums in a band called Alive, was then asked to record video of himself drumming along to a Pearl Jam song, so he skipped school — including a statistics test — and headed to a nearby practice space. The next day, Neukermans found himself taking the stage to a crowd of nea...

Pete Townshend Hopes The Who’s Emotional Return to Cincinnati 43 Years After Tragedy ‘Will Bring Us All Together’

As far as Pete Townshend is concerned, The Who should never have left Cincinnati after that awful night in December 1979 when 11 fans died after concertgoers rushed the doors of Riverfront Coliseum. Like singer Roger Daltrey, the guitarist has never been able to shake the awful feeling of finding out about the tragedy that unfolded outside the venue — now named Heritage Bank Arena — on that freezing Dec. 3 night. And though it’s taken more than four decades, he is looking forward to enveloping the Queen City in a big, emotional hug when the band take the stage at Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium on Sunday night (May 15) for the rock icons’ first show in town in the city in over 40 years as part of their “Who Hits Back!” tour. Arcade Fire Burn Through Rocking Cover of Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’

After burning up the stage on Saturday Night Live over the weekend Arcade Fire clearly had plenty more gas in the tank. The band stopped by the BBC’s iconic Maida Vale Studios this week to put their rocking spin on Harry Styles‘ most recent single, “As It Was.” The original version of the song from Harry’s upcoming third solo album, Harry’s House, has a kind of bouncy 1980s new wave A-Ha vibe, but the Arcade crew found a fifth, more raucous gear in their goosed arrangement. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Doubling the tempo, the band gave the track a renewed, frantic urgency, with singer Win Butler sounding angsty and breathless over a mix that included violin, keyboard, marimba, driving guitars and tubular bells.
