Peter Aykroyd, an Emmy-nominated writer and actor who worked on Saturday Night Live in its fifth season, has died at the age of 66. SNL confirmed the news with a tribute during the November 20th show hosted by Simu Liu. The cause of death has not been revealed. Born November 19th, 1955, Aykroyd followed in his older brother Dan Aykroyd‘s comedic footsteps, first joining the Toronto Second City troupe and then landing on SNL during the 1979-80 season. Along with the rest of the writer’s room, he shared an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program. Peter Aykroyd collaborated with Dan several times throughout his career. Peter is credited with the story for Dan’s screenplay for the 1991 movie Nothing But Trouble, which s...
The King of Staten Island has struck again. On last night’s Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson sent up a loving parody of his hometown with a little help from a few friends. Titled “Walking in Staten,” the musical short spoofed Marc Cohn‘s 1991 hit “Walking in Memphis,” and even featured a cameo from the singer-songwriter himself. The clip also included appearances from Big Wet, Method Man, and local Staten Island fixture Chris the Hobby Guy — not to mention the rather alarming amount of wild turkeys outside the Staten Island University Hospital. “And I’m walking in Staten/ This place is the reason I turned out weird/ Walking in Staten/ And thanks to New Jersey, we now have deer/ Walking in Staten/ Where everybody’s dreams go right down the drain/ Walking in Staten/ Babies here are born wi...
It must be awkward for Saweetie to reunite with her “ex-fiancé” Kyle Mooney on the Saturday Night Live stage. In a new promo for this weekend’s episode, host Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) introduces musical guest Saweetie, who turns and says a cold “hello, Kyle” to the longtime castmember. “Do you two know each other?” his SNL castmate Cecily Strong asks. “We did,” Mooney says. “Until she broke up off our engagement.” Explore Explore Saweetie See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Liu wonders, “Is this going to be a problem?” I guess we’ll have to tune in Saturday night to find out. Saweetie and Liu are both making their Saturday Night Live debuts this weekend. On Friday (Nov. 19), the rapper premiered the brand-new song “Icy Chain,” wh...
Billie Eilish will get a chance to show off her comedy chops as host of Saturday Night Live next month. The Happier Than Ever singer will pull double duty on the show’s December 11th episode, serving as both host and musical guest. She’s now set to join a rare crop of performers who pulled double duty as host and musical guest on the same episode. To date, 41 artists can claim that feat, with Nick Jonas being the most recent one in 2020. Following a double dose of Eilish, on December 18th SNL will stage its annual Christmas episode with Sexiest Man Alive, Paul Rudd, returning to host for his fifth time. He’ll be joined by musical guest Charli XCX, who previously appeared on the show way back in ...

From there, the four-piece advertises the store’s wide selection of bone options — from “big bones” to “itty bitty bitty bones” — over a medley of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s popular hits. Taking it a ridiculous step further, the store features dinosaur bones, vegan bones, funny bones and even trombones. As if that weren’t enough, each purchase comes with a free serenade from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony — even if the customer doesn’t want it. “The bone I purchased was alarmingly cheap, but it was perfect for my dog,” one customer says in a filmed testimonial. “The song was a little strange.” The SNL skit coincidentally arrives as the real Bone Thugs-N-Harmony prepares to face off against Three 6 Mafia in the next...
This week in her quest for world domination, Taylor Swift released her long-anticipated re-recording of Red, the 2012 album that helped cement her transition from country-pop singer-songwriter to complete pop superstar. Over the weekend, she took to Saturday Night Live to perform the 10-minute version of the fan favorite song “All Too Well.” “All Too Well” immediately became known upon Red’s release as some of the best of Swift’s storytelling. Its tale of heartbreak — written in the aftermath of her breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal — is rife with imagery of romantic trips upstate and “casually cruel” phone calls once the romance burned out. Written on the fly as a sort of soundcheck rant, the track’s original 10-minute minute version has been spoken of in hushed, reverent tones in fan cir...
“I’m tired of interviewing people who are not icons,” Nwodim’s Warwick said before introducing the real Warwick. “Please welcome, me.” Wearing similar sparking outfits, the two engage in some playful banter before Nwodim’s Warwick mentions a song she heard by rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again. She then asks the real Warwick why musicians today aren’t just named Burt Bacharach, a reference to the singer’s former collaborator. “I don’t know the answer, but I will keep tweeting until I find out,” Warwick answers with a smile. SNL debuted the “Dionne Warwick Talk Show” skit in late 2020 after the legendary singer went viral on Twitter following some memorable exchanges with artists such as Taylor Swift and Chan...
“Your call is important to us, and will be answered in the order that we feel like.” The headache of cancelling with the cable company is universal, and Saturday Night Live decided to put host Kieran Culkin through the nightmare in a hilarious sketch during last night’s episode. The clip started with the Succession star merely wanting to cancel his cable package, as he’d broken up with his girlfriend and was moving out. However, a group of hapless Spectrum employees were determined to make the process as difficult as possible — whether that meant Aidy Bryant’s Tanya asking for the “42-digit customer pin number that came on [his] first bill” or Mikey Day’s customer service rep in training transferring him to a Domino’s pizza guy. Along the way, Culkin is constantly offered a land-line upgra...
Kieran Culkin won the Kentucky Derby as a skateboarder named Toby Bird on last night’s Saturday Night Live. And it was all set to a ska song, because why not? “So there I was/ Doing skate tricks at the park/ Then I jumped with too much force/ And I landed on a horse,” the Succession star sings as an explainer, before adding, “If I lean right or left/ He’d follow my every move/ And if I wanted him to go faster/ I’d just give him a bag of chips.” As the race progresses, Culkin’s teen ska sensation plasters the horse’s backside with skate stickers, and even manages to nail an ollie, a backside 180, and a kickflip…but only if he asks the horse nicely. Saturday Night Live welcomed a very special guest to The Dionne Warwick Talk Show last night: Dionne Warwick herself! The recurring sketch started out with Ego Nwodim’s version of the icon and recently crowned queen of Twitter interviewing a rotating panel of celebrity guests, including Miley Cyrus (Chloe Fineman), Jason Mraz (host Kieran Culkin), and Post Malone (Pete Davidson). Ed Sheeran, who served as the episode’s musical guest, also stopped by the show to answer some of Warwick’s most pressing questions. “Now, you did a song called ‘South of the Border.’ My question is: are you nasty?” Nwodim-as-Warwick asked, to which the singer cheekily replied, “Yeah, a little bit” with a knowing wiggle of his eyebrows. Despite rumors that his recent positive COVID-19 diagnosis would prevent him from performing on Saturday Night Live, Ed Sheeran returned to Studio 8H on Nov. 6 with upbeat performances from his new album, =. Fresh out of self-isolation, the English singer-songwriter appeared vibrant and in good health while delivering rousing performances of “Shivers” and “Overpass Graffiti.” Sheeran, who tested positive for coronavirus in late October, recently spoke with Howard Stern about his diagnosis and recovery. “Everyone was saying they were scrambling to find a replacement,” the Grammy winner said of rumors about his SNL appearance being impacted, but “I was always playing that. I tested for COVID and I announced it a couple days afterwards because I had to cancel [some] stuff.” ...
