I Hate to Break It to You, But 2021 Is the Year of the Croc

Fashion has a habit of trolling us with outrageous garments. Crotchless trousers, see-through jeans, ridiculously expensive designer paper clips… All of the aforementioned are very real items sold in the not too distant past. But I’d wager no piece garners as much controversy as Crocs. They are, undeniably, a divisive topic of conversation and easily the most Marmite shoes of the modern world. I hate to break it to you, but they’ve made a real dent in 2021, and I know a lot of people aren’t happy about this. When researching this piece, I decided to ask our readers over on the So… Should I Buy This? Facebook group if they love or loathe Crocs, and almost unanimously, over 60 people replied loathe. As one member so eloquently put it, “The little holes are w...

21 runners dead as extreme weather hits China ultramarathon

Twenty-one people were killed after hail, freezing rain and high winds hit runners taking part in a 100-kilometre (62-mile) cross-country mountain race in China, state media said Sunday. The extreme weather struck a high-altitude section of the race held in the scenic Yellow River Stone Forest near Baiyin city in northwestern Gansu province Saturday afternoon. Among the dead were elite Chinese long-distance runners, local media reported. Official news agency Xinhua confirmed the death toll had risen to 21, citing the local rescue command headquarters. State broadcaster CCTV also reported the final missing competitor had been found dead. Baiyin city mayor Zhang Xuchen said that at around midday Saturday a section of the rugged ultramarathon course — between kilometres 20 and 31 — was “sudde...

These Summer Sandals and Bags Are Classic and Work With Every Outfit

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Accessories make the outfit. This is especially true during the summer months, when creative layering ideas are at a minimum and all you really want is to throw on a cool dress, get out of the door and make the most of whatever decent weather and free time you may be lucky enough to have. So when you’re reaching for that plain, trusty midi and wanting to keep indecision at bay, I’d recommend choosing classic, comfortable and practical accessories that still look chic but aren’t so faddy or faffy as to require any effort. Look for items that combine neutral colours (beige, black, off-white) with staple summer fabrics (raffia, tan leather) and chic silhouettes (a simple shopper, a pair of two-strap san...

I’m a Flat-Shoe Fanatic, and I Always Dream of Owning a Pair From This Brand

As a child, I was fascinated by the grown-up glamour of the high heel, and like coffee or spicy food, I always assumed it was just something you learned to love as you got older. No matter how hard I tried as a teen and early twenty-something, I could never get on board (aside from the odd concession to a heeled boot). Instead, I have always been inexorably drawn toward flats: The polished appeal of a loafer, the nonchalant, cool-girl stylings of a brogue, and even the odd nod to the noughties ballet pump. Within this realm of smart flats, I always considered Church’s to be the crème de la crème. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. I’m a Flat Shoe Fanatic, and This is the One Brand I’ve Always Dreamed of Owning

While I’ve seen plenty of appealing iterations over the years, they’ve never quite surpassed the timeless beauty of a Church’s shoe. I have always felt like menswear can often, by default, feel more premium because it focuses on simple silhouettes and classic fits, and I believe this is what has drawn me back to Church’s time and time again: a sort of unfussy, straight-forward chicness. While the odd deviation comes in the form of the brand’s studded styles, such as the Pembrey loafer, it remains one of my favourite iterations on-site right now. Yes, it has that additional detailing, but it’s not at the cost of versatility.  You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined...

The £50 Sandals That Are as Comfortable as They Are Cool

Tevas are shoes you can just as easy mooch around at home in as you can walk 10,000 steps a day in, thanks to the spongey platform and the adjustable straps. They come in many colours, including orange, white, khaki, aqua (a popular style is the Hurricane Drifts). However, the most-loved style within fashion circles are the Universal sandals in the Midform version, which are available in the UK for £50 on ASOS. Thanks to the platform, these are perfect for toughening up pretty floral minidresses and slip skirts. For those looking to go full-on dad, try adding a pair of white chunky ankle socks. Are These the Coolest High-Street Sandals of 2021? We Think So

When we put together a story on an item that doesn’t come with an accompanying line-up of influencer images, you know it’s pretty hot-off-the-press stuff. Sometimes, we just get a hunch about something and predict sell-out success, so really, we don’t want you to miss out. This week, said hero item has manifested in the most beautiful pair of sandals we’ve seen on the high street this year, and they come courtesy of Arket. No surprises there.  Coming in spring/summer 2021’s most popular shoe silhouette, the cage (or fisherman) sandal, the style features thick straps, a buckle fastening and a chunky sole. It is available in both black and white, but the former has already sold out. (See what we mean?) Thankfully...

5 Outfits That Show These Are the Most Versatile Boots

I would guess that if you surveyed 100 people, they probably wouldn’t say that cowboy boots were the shoe style they wore the most—or at all, for that matter. However, I just can’t get enough of them, and over the last 12 months, I’ve worn my favourite vintage pair through all weathers, quite literally. In winter, I tucked in jeans and styled them with a chunky knit; in summer, I paired them with oversize smock dresses and sunnies; then in spring and autumn, I enjoyed wearing them peeking out of wide-leg trousers. That’s not bad going for one pair of boots.  They’re not exactly the shrinking violets of the shoe-and-boot family, so I understand if you find cowboy boots a little too costume-like for your taste. However, there a...

PSA: This Cult Sandal Brand Has Been Restocked for Summer

Sandal brand Arizona Love popped up on my radar a couple of years ago when I spotted a steady stream of Instagram influencers wearing the printed trek sandals. From Erica Davies to our very own Who What Wear columnist Monikh, the sandal brand seemed to appeal to everyone whatever their personal style. There was only one problem: They kept selling out. Thankfully, the brand has created even more styles and has been restocked on various online retailers.  Much like the Velcro “dad” sandals by Chanel, Teva‘s classic hikers and all the other iterations before and after, these are sandals of the practical variety. While they’re a traditional hiking style, the multicoloured fabric wrapped around the straps makes them so much more fun. The bra...

PSA: Rixo Has Just Dropped Its First Shoe Collection, and These Are My Faves

In the world of dresses, Rixo has been one of those cult brands that have made a name for themselves in a relatively short time. Winning over magazine editors and wedding-goers alike with its vintage-inspired designs, it has managed to inhabit that rare space between fashion and mainstream, which is no easy feat. Well, if that’s not enough, Rixo just announced today that it is entering the world of footwear with one seriously cute sandal collection, and yes, it’s just as good as we’d hoped. In true Rixo style, the collection has plenty of vintage undertones. Think paintbox brights, ’60s-inspired florals and the odd nod to the ‘90s strappy silhouette. Crafted in a second-generation factory in Alicante, Spain, by a team th...

6 Things Fashion Experts Look For When They’re Sandal Shopping

A bright pair of sandals is a surefire way to add a playful spin to your summertime wares, but if you’re looking for a set that transcends trends and seasons, it pays to buy a classic colourway, especially if it’s an expensive pair. “You can never go wrong with black, tan, or white, plenty of which we’ve included in this feature” says editor Emma Spedding. “However, if you want to add some joy to your shoe collection, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite statement styles for you, too.”  You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Chunky Sandals Can Be Tricky to Style, But These 8 Outfits Make It Easy

So-called “ugly” trends have been reigning supreme for the last couple of years, with Dad trainers, knitted tank tops, tie-dye, and quilted coats being some of the buys that initially raise eyebrows but have been adopted and are now adored by fashion types. This is the case when it comes to spring/summer 2021’s most prolific shoe. Chunky sandals started making tracks two years ago when Teva’s double-strap sandals started flooding our feeds. Chanel also brought out its own pair of chunky sandals, which, although emblazoned with the iconic double-Cs and finished in bouclé, still fell under the “ugly”-but-somehow-chic category. Last year, Dune treated us to its pair of best-selling Lockstockk sandals (which, PSA, are back for 2021), just as The Ro...
