At long last, SLANDER have announced the dates of their first-ever curated music festival, Starbase. The famed electronic music duo first publicized their plans to launch Starbase back in June 2020, announcing that they were kicking the tires on an outer space-themed “Melodic Bass Festival.” Nearly one year later, they took time during their performance at Tampa’s Sunset Music Festival to announce Starbase ahead of its formal reveal today. “Starbase was an idea we had a few years back of creating a place where all our artist friends could come together, hang out, and play music for like-minded people,” SLANDER said in an announcement shared on Facebook. “A place where everyone is accepted and loved. A place where you can open your heart, let go...
SLANDER returned to the festival circuit with a triumphant DJ set at Tampa’s Sunset Music Festival over the weekend. And while their performance—rife with soaring future bass and dubstep—was one of the event’s highlights, it was a different drop that sent ripples through the EDM community. As is typically the case, Lollapalooza’s bookings span the decades and defy a bias towards any particular genre, from Foo Fighters to Journey, and Miley Cyrus to Tyler The Creator. For dance music, Marshmello and ILLENIUM find themselves near the top of the bill with the trifecta of Alison Wonderland, SLANDER, and Steve Aoki a couple lines further down. In the heart of the...

Considering how big of a moment it was for the dance music community, many of the festival’s performers took the opportunity to debut brand new music. Such was the case with ILLENIUM, who dropped a brand new collab with SLANDER and Krewella before a wild crowd. With it soaring future bass drop, the song has all the elements of a signature, heart-wrenching ILLENIUM tune. SLANDER, who teased the track earlier in the month of April, have gravitated towards dubstep in recent years, so fans of their older music will be delighted at the direction here. The conversation surrounding mental health has become more and more prevalent over the past few years, and rightfully so. Some of the biggest artists in the game have come forward with their mental health journey, such as Elohim, Carl Cox, and San Holo. One of the latest to open up about their own struggles is Derek Anderson of SLANDER, who has released a vulnerable open letter to his fans in honor of his birthday, explaining the effects that COVID-19 and the lockdown have had on his psyche. His reflection began with detailing how he went from experiencing one of the happiest moments of his life last year—his wedding—before entering ...
SLANDER have teased one of their biggest collaborations to date. Joining forces for the first time in their respective careers, the duo has joined forces with ILLENIUM for a new single. Across their social media pages, SLANDER announced that the yet-to-be-named song is completed and invited fans to join in on the hype. Melodic bass fans have been eagerly awaiting the day the two acts would team up on a song. This desire was further fueled in 2019 when SLANDER released a remix of ILLENIUM’s collaboration with Jon Bellion, “Good Things Fall Apart.” Other than the remix, the two have not released any original music until now. At the time of writing, neither SLANDER nor ILLENIUM have announced a title or release date for their completed collaboration. FOLLOW SLANDER...
In October 2020, prominent bass music duo SLANDER launched their own Heaven Sent imprint in addition to their co-owned Gud Vibrations label with NIGHTMRE. As an outlet for their more melodic side, the idea behind the new banner was to release “emotional music sent from above.” SLANDER continues to execute on that theme with their newest single “When I’m With You.” Joining forces with Milwaukee producer Synymata and singer-songwriter neverwaves, the feel-good tune is dynamic, impassioned, and endlessly playable. The track opens with placid acoustic guitar riffs and the emotional vocals of neverwaves before cranking up the energy with captivating synths. The bass-heavy drop combines hard-hitting drums with euphoric sound design for an emotionally rich, yet head-banging beat. “...
