This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. With no venues to perform at in 2020, it seemed at times as if artists simply blindfolded their eyes, threw a dart at a map, and travelled to places to perform—locations that are usually pipe dreams. However, due to the dogged fury of COVID-19 and the surge of streaming, these pie-in-the-sky destinations became the new norm for DJs who wanted to connect with fans in the absence of tours. To honor their creativity and seminal influences on the live music industry, we’ve recognized ten of the year’s best performances in dance music. RÜFÜS DU SOL Live from Joshua Tree Filmed in late 2019 and released in ...
Back in April, SLANDER teamed up with William Black to release their emotive collaboration “Back To U,” quickly garnering million streams across platforms. The two renowned dance music acts have now tapped a bevy of producers to remix the soaring track. After dropping the curtain on the remixes in sets at Ultra Taiwan and SLANDER’S own Virtual Vibes Music Festival, it did not take long for these IDs to be sought after by their avid fans. Spanning five reworks, the EP features new cuts from Matrix & Futurebound, Fairlane, Control Freak, Mazare, and Topi. Control Freak’s edit was first teased at Virtual Vibes in October on SLANDER’s epic Medusa head stage. After the velvety vocals are introduced, you can feel the ominous fog of heavy...
The massive collaboration debuted today on Subsidia Records banner. Bass-heads have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on a mysterious Excision and SLANDER collaboration ever since it was debuted live at HiJinx Festival last year. The musicians teased a cyberpunk music video for the release earlier this week, and now the epic collaboration is finally here. “Your Fault “feat. Elle Vee)” sits perfectly between the beautiful melodic soundscapes that SLANDER are so well known for, and Excision’s relentlessly heavy bass. Soaring synth melodies perfectly complement Vee’s heart-wrenching vocal work, as subdued piano chords carry somber emotion throughout the breakdown. Both of the track’s drops are as heavy as one would expect...

Due to their country’s reported success in the fight against COVID-19, Taiwanese dance music fans were able to enjoy a proper music festival over the weekend. Those who missed the in-person event or its livestream can now enjoy recordings from the four headlining acts. While most of the world’s music fans are persevering the global live music festival shutdown due to the ongoing health crisis, the party raged on in Taiwan over the weekend. Due to the fact that they have less than ten documented COVID-19 cases in the entire country at the time of writing, and just over 600 since the virus was declared a pandemic back in March, government officials gave organizers the green light to host Road to Ultra Taiwan on Saturday. To the delight of those living in countries without live music and to those who might have missed the livestream, a fan uploaded the headlining performances to YouTube after their premiere. Included are sets from ...
