HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Handout / Getty Let me just start by saying—all words are made up. Language wasn’t bestowed on us on holy tablets and delivered by Advanced Placement Moses so that our tongues would know what to do with themselves. Language was developed by people—who made up words. Still, English aficionados—who never wondered whether the person who came up with the word “flabbergasted” ever got funny looks—love to get their underoos all in a bunch whenever slang or informal words get added to the dictionary. Well, those people might not be happy with the fact that Merriam-Webster has added a slew of internet terminology to the great book of words and their meanings. From Engadget: The addition of “metaverse” comes as no surprise, seeing as companies like Face...
A group of Democrats from the United States Senate has reportedly asked Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to provide details on the social media giant’s policies addressing cryptocurrency fraud. According to a Friday report from the Washington Post, Senators Robert Menendez, Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren, Dianne Feinstein, Bernie Sanders and Cory Booker called on Zuckerberg for the actions the company may take to detect crypto scams, to coordinate with law enforcement and to assist victims of fraud. Meta currently controls Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. “Based on recent reports of scams on other social media platforms and apps, we are concerned that Meta provides a breeding ground for cryptocurrency fraud that causes significant harm to consumers,” reportedly said the group of senat...
The Queen Bee is clapping back. On Thursday (Sept. 8), Lil’ Kim addressed allegations started by 50 Cent that she had taken aim at Nicki Minaj‘s young son on her new “Plan B” remix with Megan Thee Stallion. “I never said a word about anyone’s child…” the rapper wrote on her Instagram Stories. “Please feel free to listen to the song where we were clearly talking about an EX. To try and twist my words to have an excuse to take digs at my child is disgusting. The United Kingdom’s independent advertising regulator has upheld a complaint involving former reality show Love Island contestants Eve and Jessica Gale for “triviali[zing] investment in cryptocurrency.” In a Wednesday notice, the U.K. Advertising Standards Authority, or ASA, said the reality stars promoted crypto in an Instagram story in June at the request of an influencer named Elizabeth O’Donell and upheld claims the ad was “misleading” and “irresponsible.” According to the regulator, O’Donell was not only providing trading crypto advice — as the Gales’ stories claimed — but promoting investing in cryptocurrencies without illustrating the possible risks. “We therefore considered the ads were addressed to a general audience who were unlikely to have any specialist knowledge ...

The social media network that Elon Musk is trying to bail on confirmed it is working on an edit button. It’s happening. It’s finally happening. The one feature that even Kim Kardashian has been begging for is coming. Twitter announced it is currently testing an “Edit Tweet” button and that it will roll out the feature to Twitter Blue subscribers first in late September. Those with access to the “Edit Tweet” feature can edit a tweet a few times within 30 minutes. Tweets that have been “edited” will have a label, icon, and timestamp so “it’s clear to readers that the original Tweet has been modified,” Twitter announced in a blog post. HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Twitter / Twitter Circles Twitter Circles, the social media’s attempt at a “close friends” feature, is rolling out to all users. If you’re one of those Twitter users who hits the send button on hot takes and controversial opinions, Twitter Circles is for you. The social media company Elon Musk no longer wants to own was testing the feature for quite some time and hoped it would help users feel “more comfortable tweeting and expressing themselves.” Like Instagram’s “close friends,” Twitter Circles allows users to share particular tweets with a smaller circle of up to 150 followers. Twitter hopes the feature will solve the issue of increasing engagement by encouraging people who were afraid of harassment to tweet more because it removes the worry of being r...
The future of value creation and exchange will know no national boundaries and jurisdictions. They will all be ecosystem specific. Therefore, all use cases need to be ecosystem-specific. The future for DeFi, GameFi and SocialFi may be embedded. But, this embedding can only be implemented in a well-oiled ecosystem. The Metaverse that brings these user functions together will not only have experiential elements but also utilitarian and gamification elements. For instance, a metaverse in which DeFi can be applicable will need to have opportunities for microtransactions. A metaverse in which SocialFi can be embedded will need to have an ecosystem that has creators and consumers contributing, being compensated and acknowledged for these contributions. Let us now look at what we could see as emb...

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has watched his investment in SafeMoon (SAFEMOON) crash by over 94%, proving to crypto enthusiasts that he is, in fact, capable of hodling during the bear market. The stock trader and media personality took to Twitter on Monday to lament his $40,000 investment in the memecoin, which has fallen to just $2,370.94 after he didn’t withdraw a single token. “Still holding by the way,” Portnoy said. “Diamond hands.” I put 40k into @safemoon I haven’t withdrawn any.
