HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV / Getty The world found out what life would be like if Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp didn’t exist for a few hours. Monday (Oct.4), social media was a spooky place for people who spend most of their time on Facebook and its family of apps it acquired. Ironically, right after a whistleblower revealed how shady the social media giant is when it comes to capitalizing off its user’s mental health during an episode of 60 Minutes on Sunday (Oct.3), the service came crashing down on Monday. Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were useless for about five hours and revealed how attached people have grown to these apps. Businesses, politicians, and everyday people felt the sting of the planetary outage due to the company built by Mark Zuck...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: picture alliance / Getty Twitter just can’t seem to get its own verification process right, the company hopes the third time will be the charm. Twitter first relaunched its verification process back in May much to the excitement of those who have been trying to get that highly-coveted blue check next to their Twitter handles. The social media company claimed that it had been working on the process for months and ushered in a new policy that provided more clarity to the process based on feedback the company received from users. Well, Twitter’s verification process still was still a mess and once again was put on hold but has since been relaunched once again. The Verge reports Twitter decided to halt the process after “numerous cases of genuinely notable an...
Lana Del Rey says she is signing off social media. In a video posted to Instagram on Saturday night, Del Rey announced that all of her accounts will be deactivated effective Sunday. “That is simply because I have so many interests, and other jobs I’m doing that require privacy and transparency,” she explained of the decision. Del Rey assured fans she will continue to making music and poetry, adding, “I’m still very present and love what I do.” Advertisement Related Video The timing of Del Rey’s decision is certainly odd, considering she has a new album coming out next month. But it’s also probably for the best, as the singer has stirred up plenty of controversy with some of her past social media postings. Last year, she criticized female musicians of color, only to later say her comments c...

The social media landscape has changed over the past few years. Myspace took the world by storm when it launched in 2003. Then came Facebook a year later, revolutionizing the way that we connect with friends, family, and loved ones. But now Facebook’s imminent doom lingers like a roadkill stench, and other platforms are swooping in to pick up the slack. Twitter created a platform that allows people to share bite-sized pieces of information and join conversations from all around the world. YouTube has provided creators with a podium to share their stories and build their brands. TikTok has replaced Vine and filled the void of video memes millennials and Gen Z’ers yearned for during a global pandemic. While every social media platform has a unique position within the online social community,...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: CBS Photo Archive / Getty Trolling Lizzo on Facebook will no longer fly. Spotted on the Huffington Post, Facebook is actively deleting all hateful comments spotted on Lizzo’s social media accounts. The social media company’s decision to take such action comes after Lizzo tearfully shared in an emotional video she was receiving hateful comments about her weight, race, and more following the release of her new single “Rumors” featuring Cardi B. In the video, while shedding tears, Lizzo said, “People who have something mean to say about you — and for the most part, it doesn’t hurt my feelings. I don’t care. I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower. I’m more sensitive, and it gets to me.” Lizzo, who is very active...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty Drop-in audio app Clubhouse is still alive and kicking, and it hopes this new feature will help take it off life support. A group of Colombians and Haitian Americans suspected of assassinating Haitian President Jovenel Moise told investigators they were there to arrest him, not kill him, the Miami Herald and a person familiar with the matter said on Sunday. Moise was shot dead early on Wednesday at his Port-au-Prince home by what Haitian authorities say was a unit of assassins made up of 26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans, plunging the troubled Caribbean nation into deeper turmoil. The murder and uncertainty about who hatched the plot is the latest in a succession of blows to hit the struggling country, which has appealed for international help. Washington has so far rebuffed Haiti’s request for troops, though a senior U.S. official said on Sunday that Washington was sending a technical team to assess th...
