‘He knows the game inside out’: Chelsea urged to target 53-year-old as Lampard’s replacement

Chelsea have been urged to consider Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as a replacement for Frank Lampard. The Blues have slipped down to eighth in the Premier League after a disappointing run of form, cranking up the pressure on their current boss. Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, who also had a spell with Saints, told Stadium Astro that the Austrian has the ability to be a success at Stamford Bridge. “I think he’s almost got that (Jurgen) Klopp appearance about him, that authority,” he said. “He’s a big guy, he’s very intelligent, he knows the game inside out. “The big thing for the club is, can they keep hold of him? The biggest problem is keeping hold of their manager. “He’s doing a really good job down on the south coast. I wouldn’t like to see Frank lose his job, I don’t l...

Arsenal linked with Chelsea’s Champions League winning defender

Arsenal are considering a move for former Chelsea left-back and current Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand as they look to provide competition for Kieran Tierney. Mikel Arteta revealed this week the club are in the market for a left-back to compete with Tierney after Sead Kolasinac was allowed to join former club Schalke on loan. Arsenal are looking at a number of targets, but it is understood that Bertrand is one player being monitored. Bertrand is into the final six months of his contract with the Saints and has been in protracted talks over a new deal with the south coast club. The 31-year-old, who still lives near the Blues’ west London training ground and commutes to Southampton, was of interest to Leicester in the summer following the sale of Ben Chillwell and the Foxes have kept tab...

Report: Arsenal interested in experienced Premier League left-back

Arsenal are monitoring the contract situation of Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand as per a report from Standard Sport. The north London side recently sanctioned the loan exit of Sead Kolasinac to Schalke 04 and it is unclear whether he will be re-integrated into the squad in the summer. With his departure, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bukayo Saka, who has played in an attacking role this term, are the back-up options for regular left-back Kieran Tierney. Maitland-Niles has recently got his chance when Tierney has been unavailable, but he has struggled to deliver quality crosses into the box which is justified. The England international is a central midfielder by trade, but he has barely played in the position during his senior career with the Gunners. Arteta recently hinted that the club c...

Report: Celtic ready to consider sale of versatile £12m midfielder, West Brom interested

Celtic are prepared to part ways with midfielder Olivier Ntcham before the transfer window closes on February 1, a report from Football Insider claims. Earlier this season, it was revealed that the Hoops need to raise funds and they could sell the likes of Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Kristoffer Ajer. It is now reported that the hierarchy have given the green light for Ntcham’s sale with West Bromwich Albion and Southampton said to be interested. Marseille and Lyon are also in the running to sign the former Manchester City graduate, who is valued at around £12 million by the Hoops. SL View: The 24-year-old has fallen out-of-favour with the Hoops as the season has progressed and he has managed only 28 minutes of league action since November. With under 18 months left...

Jordan Henderson: Liverpool were the ‘better team’ against Manchester United

Jordan Henderson felt Liverpool were the “better team” against Manchester United, but has admitted that his side have allowed their standards to slip in recent weeks. Liverpool welcomed United to Anfield on Sunday knowing that they could return to the top of the Premier League standings with a victory. However, confidence within the Reds’ camp wasn’t at its highest point after uninspired draws against West Brom and Newcastle and a dismal defeat away at Southampton, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all struggling for form in the final third. Unfortunately, the talismanic front three were quiet once again as Jurgen Klopp saw his team struggle to break down a well organised United outfit in a 0-0 draw. Liverpool had No.1 goalkeeper Alisson to thank for keeping them in the ga...

Premier League 2020/21 Week 19: EPL Results & Table

The 19th round of fixtures in the Premier League features some important matches at both ends of the table. Liverpool versus Manchester United is the standout game, with the two old enemies set to go head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday. The lunchtime match at Molineux got the weekend off to a thrilling start as West Bromwich Albion triumphed 3-2 against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves led 2-1 at the break, with Fabio Silva and Willy Boly turning things around after Matheus Pereira’s penalty had given the Baggies an early lead. However, goals in the second half by Semi Ajayi and another Pereira penalty gave Sam Allardyce his first victory as West Brom manager. There are two games at 3.00 pm, with West Ham United hosting Burnley while Leeds United take on Brighton & Hove Albion. HALF-TIME ...

10 former Manchester United players who went into management

For 26 years, Manchester United were managed by one of, if not the greatest coach to ever touch the game. Sir Alex Ferguson guided the Red Devils to 13 league titles, two Champions Leagues, and many other domestic trophies. You’d think that those who played under him would have picked up a thing or two from his tutelage, and gone on to be successful managers themselves. Well, football isn’t always that simple. Wayne Rooney is the latest of Fergie’s disciples to take the leap into management, taking charge at Derby County. How will he fare? I guess we’ll find out. But here is how other former Man Utd players have done during their managerial days. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Solskjaer is currently in charge at Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at Old Trafford during a turbulent spel...

‘Genuine possibility’: Southampton target could join Everton on loan this month – Report

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams could leave the Old Trafford club in the January transfer window on loan, and several Premier League clubs are vying for his signature. Earlier this week, Shields Gazzette reported that Newcastle United are leading the race to sign the 20-year-old defender. The report claimed that the Magpies have agreed the framework of a deal in principle to sign the highly-rated Red Devils academy graduate. Sky Sports reported this week that Southampton are also in the hunt to sign the youngster and are waiting for United to decide whether or not to loan out Williams this month. And now, The Athletic has claimed that Everton have joined the race to sign the versatile full-back. Laurie Whitwell claims that a move to Everton on loan is a ‘genuine possi...
