The Philadelphia 76ers‘ NBA Finals dreams may have just dimmed with the announcement of their big man, Joel Embiid‘s injury. Following their win over the Toronto Raptors in Game 6, Embiid will now officially be sidelined due to a right orbital fracture and mild concussion he sustained in the game. The big man appeared to have suffered the injury when Raptors’ Pascal Siakam drove to the basket and accidentally elbowed Embiid in the face with 3:58 remaining in the final quarter. The NBA has announced Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant as this season’s Most Improved Player. While most improved is subjective, there is no denying that Morant is very much deserving of the award. The young player received 221 points, with 38 first-place votes from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. His peer Djounte Murray of the San Antonio Spurs came second with 183 points and Cleveland Cavaliers‘ Darius Garland came in third place. When Calum Jacobs started CARICOM magazine in late 2017, he had an ambitious vision for the publication. In a Kickstarter launched for the first issue, Jacobs described the project as “a series of explorative and progressive conversations in the space where the Black-British experience and football intersect,” going on to add that it would “discuss culture, politics, history and contemporary life under the unifying umbrella of football.” After almost five years, and two issues of CARICOM, Jacobs is now poised to take that message to an even larger audience with the launch of his debut book.
