The Pitch: In 1985, Rocky IV was released to box office success (netting $300 million, the most the series has ever earned), but critical derision. It’s no surprise, either; the film, which tracks Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) as he seeks revenge against Russian superman Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) for the death of his friend Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), was the ultimate jump-the-shark moment for a series that had heretofore mixed taut boxing action with comparatively tamped-down character drama. It’s a thorn that’s clearly been stuck in Stallone’s paw for 35 years, and with the creative idleness that came with the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 seemed as good a time as any to pick it back up and revisit it. And so, we have Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago – The Director’s Cut, a dra...
In the recent episode of The Old Man and the Three podcast, Alex Caruso revealed the real reason why he did not sign back with the Los Angeles Lakers. This offseason, Caruso signed a $36.9 million USD four-year contract with the Chicago Bulls, however, the guard wanted to confirm that it was not without hesitation. When the deal came in, Caruso went back to the Lakers to give them a chance to keep him for less. At the time, Caruso was willing to stay on the Lakers for $30 million USD over three years. The Lakers refused the offer, which led to Caruso joining the Bulls. Currently, Caruso is a major part of the team’s defense and the Bulls’ 7-3 start. In the interview, he confirmed to J.J. Redick, “I really didn’t hear much from any team — including the Lakers — leading up to [the start of f...
In Monday’s NBA game, the Denver Nuggets faced off against the Miami Heat in a home game. With just 2:39 left in the final quarter, the Nuggets were approaching a 113-96 win against the Heat, however, in a run-in with Markeiff Morris, the reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic ended up in a scuffle that led to the ejection of both players. The situation saw Morris foul Jokic as he pulled up for a three. As Morris turns his back away him, Jokic pushes him into the ground as retaliation. After the game, LA Clippers Marcus Morris and Markieff’s twin took to Twitter to chime in about what happened. Marcus wrote, “Waited till bro turned his back smh. NOTE,” which instigated a heated exchange between himself and the Jokic brothers. Jokic’s brothers Strahinja and Nemanja then created their own Twitter acc...
Scottie Pippen continues to question Michael Jordan‘s NBA success. This time, Pippen is discrediting Jordan’s memorable 19977 NBA Finals “Flu Game.” In a recent SiriusXM interview, former Chicago Bulls continued to question Michael Jordan’s commitment to playing. When Pippen was asked about playing with a back injury during the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz, he took the opportunity to share that he probably would not have played if the series went to Game 7 because of a herniated disc. That year, the Bulls won the series in six games. The conversation later segued into Jordan’s flu game, to which Pippen directly compared his back issue, “I don’t see many bad back games, but I do see flu games. Flu. Come on.” Pippen continued to pick at Jordan’s “Flu Game” and explained that he was ...
The NBA decided to change their official game ball supplier from Spalding to Wilson this offseason. Wilson was the official maker of the NBA basketball for the first 37 years of the league before Spalding took over for the next 37. As Spalding failed to renew their contract, Wilson takes over ball-making duties once again. Statistically speaking, the league is currently experiencing an overall shooting slump, with the lowest 3-point percentage recorded so far since the 1998-1999 season, at 34.2%. While a short offseason and new foul call interpretations have been subject to blame, some trainers, players, and analysts are now pointing towards the new Wilson ball as a possible issue. “Not to make an excuse about the ball, but it’s a different basketball. It doesn’t have the same touch/softne...

While Kyrie Irving may not be returning to the court to play for the Brooklyn Nets this season due to his vaccination status, it does not take him out of the running for the upcoming 2022 NBA All-Star Game. With the 71st NBA All-Star Game hosted at Rocket Morgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, fans might just have a chance at seeing Irving return to the basketball court, just not playing for the Nets. The NBA updated its All-Star voting process to allow all players on the roster to be placed on the ballot. If Irving is voted in, he still has a chance to play since the New York City mandate only bars him from playing at the Barclays Center or Madison Square Garden. So far, the Brooklyn Nets management have told Irving that he can rejoin the team once he is fully vaccinated and read to be “a full ...

Los Angeles Lakers superstar, LeBron James is officially missing even more games at the start of the season due to an abdominal injury. Just a couple of weeks ago, James suffered a minor ankle injury that caused him to miss a few games. However, he was able to make it back to the starting lineup and help the Lakers to a few wins before now, having to sit out once again, due to another injury. The Lakers have had a rough start to the NBA season despite their wins. With James ruled out for the game against Oklahoma City Thunder, ESPN has reported that he is expected to miss “at least one week.” In a recent interview, Lakers coach Frank Vogel said, “Anytime LeBron’s out and he’s going to miss some time there’s obviously concern. Hopefully this is something that’s minimal and hopefully he’ll b...
Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard recently opened up about his pre-season meeting in Los Angeles. Throughout the trade season, Lillard was at the top of rumor mills as fans speculated whether or not he would be traded or stay with Portland. Lillard has now clarified that he has always wanted to stay and win a championship for the Trail Blazers franchise, especially after a disappointing 2021 run in the playoffs that saw the team make a first-round exit. The NBA player recently caught up with Chris Haynes from Yahoo! Sports and revealed what happened in his meeting with LeBron James over the summer. James had indeed tried to bring him over to the Los Angeles Lakers to play with himself and Anthony Davis to form a super team trifecta. As Lillard ultimately refused James’ propos...

Some have speculated that it could be his last home run. He has spent all 12 years of his career with the Braves. Tyler Matzek was able to come on to start the seventh inning while Joc Pederson and Will Smith ...
