Watford begin talks with Genk for Paul Onuachu

Premier League new boys Watford have opened talks with Genk for striker Paul Onuachu. Onuachu has been linked in recent times with several Premier League clubs, from Arsenal to Brighton, after he scored 35 goals in all competitions in Belgium last season. And now the Watford Observer has reported that Watford, who won promotion back to the English top league this past season, have opened talks to sign Onuachu. The report further said the talks have not yet reached an advanced stage. Moderna starts human trials of an mRNA-based flu shot

Moderna gave its mRNA-based seasonal flu vaccine to the first set of volunteers in a clinical trial, the pharmaceutical company announced today. The start of the trial marks the next stage of the company’s work on this type of vaccine technology after the overwhelming success of its COVID-19 vaccine, which was built using the same strategy. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, mRNA vaccines were still largely experimental, even as they were heralded as the future of vaccine development. People who get an mRNA vaccine are injected with tiny snippets of genetic material from the target virus. Their cells use that genetic information to build bits of the virus, which the body’s immune system learns to fight against. The high efficacy of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer / BioNTec...

Ghana and Ivory Coast play out goalless draw in Cape Coast

Ghana failed to score for the second straight game as their international friendly encounter against Ivory Coast ended in a goalless draw at the Cape Coast stadium on Saturday. The Ivorians were largely dominant in the game and could have won. Akonnor’s side in comparison were poor throughout, struggling to find a way to trouble their opponents. After the disappointing 1-0 loss to Morocco, a response was expected from Ghana in front of their home fans but it ended in disappointment. Ghana’s biggest chance came at the end of the first half where Thomas Partey tried one from distance but saw his shot saved by the opposition goalkeeper. Ivory Coast nearly found the net before that. A brilliant one-two exposed the Black Stars defence but the finishing at the end was lacking. Max Gradel’s goal-...

Rapid spread of Delta variant throws England’s re-opening into doubt

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s hopes of ending England’s coronavirus lockdown on June 21 hung in the balance on Friday as data showed a further rise in cases of the rapidly spreading Delta variant. Johnson is due to announce on Monday whether the planned lifting of restrictions, which would see an end to limits on social contact, can go ahead on time. But the rapid spread of the Delta variant, officially a “variant of concern”, has thrown those plans into jeopardy, prompting speculation that the June 21 date will be pushed back, or that some restrictions will remain. “We have to be really careful. We had a very big opening on the 17th of May where people could meet friends indoors, in a restaurant, in a pub, and socialise indoors as well,” COVID-19 vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi t...

Manchester City willing to break £100 million barrier to sign Aston Villa skipper

Manchester City are willing to break the £100m barriers to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. The Daily Mail says Grealish has long been admired by Pep Guardiola and City’s manager wants the 25-year-old at the hub of what he hopes he will become the second great team of his reign in Manchester. Villa rewarded Grealish last September with a lucrative new contract and the club captain still has four years to run on his deal. His importance to Dean Smith’s side is huge and, as such, they would not entertain selling their local hero for anything less than a new British transfer record. City have not had the most expensive player in the Premier League since they signed Robinho for £32.5m at the start of the Abu Dhabi era in September 2008 but there is recognition that recruiting Grealish w...

Moses spent last season on loan at the Otkritie Arena, with Spartak having the option to take him permanently should he impress. Spartak Moscow manager, Domenico Tedesco, has revealed how Victor Moses has been a great help to his side since his arrival from Chelsea. The 30-year-old joined the Red and Whites on a season-long loan from the Blues last summer for his sixth spell away from the Stamford Bridge outfit. The former Nigeria international has continued to prove his worth at the club, helping them to their current second spot on the league table. The Russian side have now taken up that option and are expected to pay Chelsea 4.5m euros for the services of the Nigerian internatio...

Speaking to Movistar after Real Madrid beat Athletic Club 1-0, Zinedine Zidane denied reports suggesting that he is leaving the club at the end of the season. “How can I tell my players that I’m leaving the club at this stage of the season? We’re playing for our lives in this league and I’m going to say I’m leaving? You can say anything you want to say. I will never say that to my players. How can I say that. At the end of the season, we will see what will happen. We can’t constantly talk about my future.” Fernando Burgos of Onda Cero claims that Zidane has already told the Real Madrid squad that he won’t be at the club next season. Only home fans (a limited number) will be able to attend the final two league games of the season, as confirmed by the Premier League. The club are yet to confirm the decision, but it is understood Mourinho has left less than a week ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday. Mourinho had been in charge at Spurs since November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, signing a deal until the end of the 2023 season.
