Ogun students leaders pass vote of confidence on college provost

Leaders of various students bodies in Ogun State have passed a vote of confidence on the Provost of Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu-Ijebu, Lukmon Kiadese, for his outstanding achievements in the institution. Archbishop Martins decries Southern Kaduna killings

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Reverend Alfred Adewale Martins, has expressed deep concern over the killings in Southern Kaduna, challenging the government to show more will to deal with the situation. The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the September 19 election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said that governor Godwin Obaseki has failed in all sector of the state’s economy. NDLEA arrests soldier with arms, cannabis

A 25 year old soldier, Mohammed Kashim, has been arrested in Yobe State in possession of arms and some quantity of cannabis sativa, otherwise known as Indian hemp. The soldier was apprehended by men of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along Nguru/Hadeja road. The Assistant State Commander Administration and Logistic, Mr. Julius Zer, who is also the Acting State Commander of the NDLEA in Yobe state disclosed that the soldier was arrested on Thursday July 30, 2020 with 30 rounds of live ammunitions with a magazine and 1kg of cannabis sativa. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has donated four cows to corps members serving in the state to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival. Handing over the cows to representatives of the corps members on Saturday in Maiduguri, Zulum said that the gesture was to ensure that those who did not travel home for Sallah also had something to celebrate with. Security forces head off anti-government protests in Zimbabwe

Streets were deserted and businesses shut in Zimbabwe’s two main cities on Friday after security forces were deployed to prevent anti-government marches called by activists over corruption and economic hardship. Protesters stayed away. Job Sikhala, an opposition lawmaker and one of the protest organisers, said the heavy security presence showed a state afraid of its citizens. Eid-el-Kabir: Governor Ganduje pardons 29 inmates in Kano

In the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has on Friday pardoned 29 inmates with minor offences across the custodial centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NSC, in the state. Speaking during a brief ceremony to set the inmates free, Governor Ganduje said the inmates were pardoned in accordance with directives of President Muhammadu Buhari to state governments to decongest the custodial centres and also ensure compliance to protocols of covid-19. Police detain inspector accused of raping widow over face mask

Police Inspector Peter Ibah who accused of raping a 23 years old widow after arresting her for not wearing a face mask and three of his colleagues has been arrested and are undergoing investigation by the detectives of Rivers State Command over the allegation. The accused was interviewed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, in the presence of his accuser and witnessed by journalists. The Imo state government Thursday said it has identified two persons, one Ohanaeze Collins and M.C Ameche, who are not pensioners but they led the pension protest in the state. The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, warning that such people were mercenaries hired by politicians in the state to destabilize their government and that such action would not be tolerated again.
