5 Cybersecurity Tips to Keep in Mind Before Your Business Returns to the Office

Sourced from Travellers Switching to working from home was difficult, but oddly enough, returning to the office may be just as tricky. Organisations will have to roll back some changes, which could be as complex as when they were deployed in the first place. They will also need to re-ensure the security of internal services and meet employee needs for software they got accustomed to during lockdown or remote work. One of the most important pandemic takeaways is the speed of business transformation and the flexibility of IT. And IT security should not prohibit but offer options and support this flexibility. A smart and safe return to office work in any form can help companies stay on top of this trend, making the most of their business processes. There are many things to consider, so to hel...

Making Sure Technology Doesn’t Stand in the Way of Your Digital Transformation

Sourced from TTEC.com Most companies today understand the need for digital transformation, but it can be all too easy to mistake digital transformation for simply adopting and implementing technology. Additionally, legacy back-end systems (and the cost to replace them) can hold companies back from making future-focused decisions, or changes that will improve the customer experience. Real digital transformation is about shifting mindsets across the organisation, rather than just forcing technology on people. By taking the latter approach, organisations risk missing out on the biggest benefit of digital transformation – improved customer experience. A study by Kony Inc, covering digital transformation across a number of verticals, found that despite nearly $5-trillion in overall investment, ...

3 Trends to Understand the Evolving Cybersecurity Landscape

Image sourced from Feed Navigator. Given the global disruption that took place last year, it is hardly surprising that malware increased by 358% and ransomware by 435% as compared to 2019. The rapid push to digitalise and embrace work from home solutions meant companies not only had to accelerate data migration projects to the cloud but also remain cognizant of how best to secure employee endpoint devices while keeping the impact on productivity to a minimum. What makes the likes of malware and ransomware so difficult to combat is that successful attacks on corporate networks and endpoint devices can potentially remain hidden for months giving the hacker access to a veritable treasure trove of information. Attackers can encrypt this compromised data at any time, resulting in significant da...

Customers of Microsoft Azure Cloud Warned of Potential Security Flaws

Image sourced from NS Energy. Microsoft has issued a warning to some of its Azure Cloud customers that a flaw discovered by a security research team could have allowed threat actors to access their data. According to Reuters, the tech mega-conglomerate said in a blog post, written by its security response team, that the flaw reported by researchers from Palo Alto Networks has been fixed, and that there had been no evidence that cybercriminals were able to access any Azure cloud data. The blog post continues to say that Microsoft has notified some of its customers to change their login credentials as a precaution. Researchers from the Palo Alto team discovered an exploit around a widely-used system in Azure called ‘containers’, which store programs for users. According to Palo Alto research...

ICASA Cancels Spectrum Auction in Attempt to Avoid Lengthy Court Battle

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the country’s communications regulator, has announced that it will not be publishing invitations to apply (ITA) to participate in the long-awaited auction of high-demand spectrum in South Africa. ICASA says that the move was made to avoid a lengthy court battle against several litigators that had issues with how ICASA was handling the auction. The regulator is likewise withdrawing an ITA for the licensing of the planned wholesale open-access network (WOAN), pending court approval. “ICASA has now decided to consent to an order setting aside its decision to publish the invitations to apply (ITAs) in order to avoid a long, drawn-out litigation, the effect of which would only be to delay further the licensing of high-demand spec...

ITA Launches 600 KM High-Speed Fibre Link Between Angola & DRC

Internet Technologies Angola (ITA), part of the Paratus Group, announced today the launch of its high-speed fibre-optic link connecting Angola to DRC across Noqui (Angola) and Matadi (DRC). The 600-kilometre connection between Luanda and Noqui, with a capacity of up to 200 gigabits per second, will also provide internet services to municipalities along the route, including Nzeto, Tomboco and Mbanza Congo in the province of Zaire. Following substantial investment by ITA and Paratus Group, this link between Angola and DRC signals the first of many to be launched in the SADC region by the group. The fibre from Noqui will benefit DRC by providing internet services in Kinshasa, which has around 17-million. With more inter-SADC fibre connections planned in 2022, this roll-out is part of the ITA/...
